2 - Maserati celebrates 105 years of history and prepares for the start of a new Era

Modena, 2 December 2019 – The start of the new Maserati Era coincides with a significant birthday.

As it begins the modernisation work at the Modena plant and plans a big event for May 2020, when it will be starring on the global stage, the Trident Brand celebrates its roots and its more than a century of history. Indeed, it was 105 years ago that Alfieri Maserati joined forces with his brothers Ettore and Ernesto to open the "Alfieri Maserati" at number 1A on via de’ Pepoli, in the heart of Bologna.

The business was founded in Bologna on 1 December 1914, but officially the activities of the mechanical workshop began trading on 14 December.

The Maserati brothers were passionate about mechanical engineering and loved speed, quite happy to get behind the wheel of a racing car themselves, despite their many technical and commercial commitments. Another brother, Mario, contributed by creating the famous Trident logo (inspired by the Fountain of Neptune in the centre of Bologna) and their brother Bindo joined Officine Maserati in 1932, after Alfieri's death.

The first car to bear the Trident Brand was built in 1926. It was the Tipo 26, a racing car which debuted at the Targa Florio that same year, winning first place in the class up to 1.5 L, with Alfieri Maserati at the wheel.

This was the first in a long series of successes, including two consecutive editions of the Indianapolis 500 (1939 and 1940), four consecutive victories in the Targa Florio (1937, 1938, 1939 and 1940), nine F1 wins and the 1957 F1 World Championship with Juan Manuel Fangio.

More recently, Maserati returned to its winning ways with the MC12, the car which, between 2005 and 2010, won six FIA GT international championships, the highest-level racing category for production-derived GT cars.

Maserati remained in Bologna until 1939. In late September 1939, following the acquisition of the Brand by the Orsi family, operations began for the transfer of the Maserati headquarters from Bologna (Pontevecchio, where it had moved in the meantime) to Modena, where the Orsi family's businesses were based, to build new cars, invest in research and innovation and become Modena's most globally famous Brand.

The production site on Viale Ciro Menotti, where the plant is still located, officially opened its doors on 1 January 1940.

1947 marked the end of one era and the start of a new one. The Maserati brothers’ collaboration with the company ended, while the Brand launched its first road car, the A6 1500.

In 1963, Maserati started another new phase of its history: with the launch of the Quattroporte, it created a completely new, previously non-existent market segment, that of high-performance luxury sedans.

After the brief period under the ownership of Citroën (1967-1975), during which the French owners introduced the first modern industrial processes, in the following De Tomaso period (1976-1993), the Modena plant created and sold a model destined to be one of the Brand's best-known, best-selling cars: the Biturbo.

The acquisition by Fiat in 1993 was the start of a major new chapter, which led to Maserati coming under the control of Ferrari in September 1997. These were years of major transformations, which saw the birth of the 3200 GT (1998), followed by the Spyder (2001), a car which marked the important return to the US market.

In 2005 Maserati was separated from Ferrari and returned to the control of the Fiat Group.

2007 was a very successful year, with the debut at the Detroit Motor Show of the Quattroporte (5th generation) with automatic transmission, enabling an important step forward, especially in markets such as the United States, Japan and the Middle East. The same year saw the presentation at the Geneva International Motor Show of the GranTurismo, a milestone in the Brand's history.

In 2009 it was the turn of the GranCabrio, followed by other new products that significantly renewed the range: the new Quattroporte (now in 6th generation and presented at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show), the Ghibli (Shanghai Motor Show in 2013) and the Levante (2016 Geneva International Motor Show), the first SUV for the Brand.

After over a century of history, the Modena plant is still producing extraordinary cars sold in more than 70 markets, all which stand out for their luxury, elegance, style, performance and quality. These characteristics have made Maserati a true Italian icon at the global level.

It is at the historic Viale Ciro Menotti plant itself that production of the new super sports car, rich in highly innovative technological features, is scheduled to start in 2020. Major modernisation work is already in progress on the production lines, partly to accommodate an electric version. At the same time, work has already started on a paint shop, a completely new addition to the facility.

With the strength of its over a century of history Maserati is now ready to start a new Era: past and future will meet in May 2020, when the Brand will star on the world stage for the mobility of tomorrow.

3 - Maserati celebrates the 60th anniversary of the launch of the 5000 GT 2+2 coupé at the Turin Motor Show

Modena, 29 November 2019 – Sixty years ago, the 5000 GT, a 2+2 coupé, was presented at the Turin Motor Show and was the undisputed star of the event.

Maserati now celebrates the anniversary of this extraordinary car, built to the specific request of the Shah of Persia, Reza Pahlavi.  Just 34 cars of this model were built at the Viale Ciro Menotti plant in Modena, with bodywork added by Italy's top coachbuilders of the period.

Reza Pahlavi, the then Shah of Persia, and a great enthusiast of high-performance sports cars, test-drove a 3500 GT towards the end of 1958 and was delighted with it. However, he requested an increase in performance, and Giulio Alfieri, Maserati technical director at the time, realised that the car would have to be completely redesigned to satisfy this prestige customer's demands.

The resulting AM103 project, continued through during 1959, and was in effect a new car and not merely a customisation: the heart of the design was the V8 engine of the 450S (the famous Maserati racing barchetta), with its bore increased to upgrade its displacement to almost five litres.

The 5000 GT, a prestigious  2+2 coupé, was born.

The car, of which the first bodywork was built by Carrozzeria Touring, was launched at the 1959 Turin Motor Show, and received the nickname "Shah of Persia” in honour of this unique customer. Only three of that special version were ever produced.

The next year, in 1960, the 5000 GT was exhibited on the stand at the Geneva International Motor Show, with a few revisions to the engine.

The most interesting fact of the Maserati 5000 GT was that it was built with bodywork by almost all the leading Italian coachbuilders of the time: from Allemano, Pininfarina, Monterosa, Ghia, Bertone and Frua, not to mention Michelotti for Vignale.

Its great success led to the production of a number of cars for prestige customers including Prince Karim Aga Khan (car with bodywork by Carozzeria Frua), Fiat boss Gianni Agnelli (Carozzeria Pininfarina), industrialist Ferdinando Innocenti (Carrozzeria Ghia), film star Stewart Granger (Carrozzeria Allemano) and Mexican President Adolfo López Mateos (Carrozzeria Allemano).

Maserati confirmed its ability to create a prestigous product, delivering exclusive elegance, impeccable functionality and absolute comfort, combined with thrilling performance.

The 5000 GT was a VIP's car, in terms of both exclusivity and performance. Due to its extremely distinctive character and high cost, the total number of cars built was limited to just 34.

4 - Maserati's innovation on board the Multi 70 trimaran: the technical partnership with Giovanni Soldini

  • A technology transfer from Maserati to the Maserati Multi 70 trimaran: for the first time the engineers of the Maserati Innovation Lab in Modena share the Brand's know-how with the Maserati Multi 70
  • The aerodynamics is the focus of this innovative collaboration.
  • Maserati Multi 70's race schedule for the 2020 season has been announced. The English Channel Record is also scheduled.

Modena, 26 November 2019 – Maserati enters into a new era of innovation and launches a process for the transfer of technological know-how from the world of cars to the world of high-performance yachts: the engineers of the Maserati Innovation Lab in Modena and Giovanni Soldini, skipper of Maserati Multi 70, take centre stage.

A collaboration between people moved by passion, adrenaline and the search for maximum performance, values that have been shared by Maserati and Giovanni Soldini since 2012, the year in which the collaboration began and that goes beyond sponsorship.

Today, the results of a unique study are unveiled. The research project sets out to apply the aerodynamic knowledge and virtual analysis tools usually used when developing cars to the Maserati Multi 70 trimaran, to boost its performances and aerodynamics, and to enhance its flight attributes, by means of special hydrodynamic profiles.

The Maserati engineers analysed the data of Maserati Multi 70's latest races to identify the key parameters of its motion. They made an in-depth study of the craft's current configurations to identify possible areas of improvement using advanced CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulations, able to predict the behaviour of the complex flows created around the trimaran.

Virtual tools were also used to test different hull streamlining and sheet configurations, on the one hand to reduce the boat's resistance to the air and on the other to increase the efficiency of its sails by controlling extremity phenomena.

The outcome of these studies was a reduction of about 5% in the entire vessel's aerodynamic penetration (Cx) coefficient. What's more, improving the flows around the craft enables the sails to work more efficiently, increasing propulsion force by 4% with a less than 1% rise in heeling force. With these results, the yacht's cruising speed could now exceed 43 knots in ideal conditions.

By applying its technical expertise even to sailing, Maserati yet again reaffirms its aptitude for innovation, adopting Maserati Multi 70 as a continually evolving "laboratory boat”.

6 - Maserati opens the doors to its Innovation Lab

  • For the first time in its history, Maserati is opening the doors of its engineering division on Via Emilia Ovest to offer an exclusive look behind the scenes into the heart of innovation and development of the Brand.
  • The new Dynamic Simulator featuring latest generation DiM (Driver-in-Motion) technology, the Static Simulator and the laboratories devoted to develop the “User eXperience”: the Brand is on the cutting edge of support technology for the development of new models.
  • From the virtual product to the final result: an integrated approach that prioritizes the human factor right from the initial development phases.

Modena, 12 November 2019 – In a surprise move, Maserati is opening the doors to an exclusive and usually off-limits location: the Maserati Innovation Lab.

The Brand’s engineering hub, inaugurated in September 2015 and located on via Emilia Ovest in Modena, is for the first time sharing with the outside world its  fundamental role as the Brand’s beating pulse, driving research technology, development and planning.

The Maserati Innovation Lab is a state-of-the-art facility where the cars of today and tomorrow are developed. Here, the digital processes support the product development, applying the exclusive Maserati formula which, by means of an integrated approach, prioritizes the human factor right from the initial phases. Concern with customer needs has been scrupulously incorporated into the virtual simulation process thanks to an exclusive mix of hardware and software.

The digital processes supporting product development take place in three major areas: the Static Simulator, the latest generation Dynamic Simulator featuring DiM (Driver-in-Motion) technology and the “User eXperience” development labs.

The Product Development hub (or Technical Department) employs more than 1,500 technicians (divided into the Modena offices in Via Emilia Ovest, in Viale Ciro Menotti, via delle Nazioni, in the headquarters of Grugliasco and Balocco). At its headquarters in Via Emilia Ovest covers a total area of 33,744 square meters (of which 14,000 square meters are covered and 19,744 square meters uncovered). More than 1,100 people carry out their activities, the majority of which are engineers, representing 17 different countries. The environment is comprised of a very young and dynamic workforce of an average age of around 37 years. Almost half of the employees are under 35 and 20% are under 30. The organization has grown considerably in recent years, attracting top graduates from the best Italian universities, including those that collaborate with Maserati.

Static Simulator
The Static Simulator is the starting point for every experience in the Maserati realm of simulation.
The system is composed of a cockpit, three projectors and high computational power. It is a simple system that helps engineers, from the very initial phase of the development process, obtain immediate feedback from the driver, and makes a major contribution to new model validation.

In particular Maserati engineering ensures a driver-centred strategy even during virtual development, by creating a link between the Hardware In the Loop (HiL) methodology and the simulator. Using this approach, real subsystems such as steering and braking, ABS and ESC can be added in, to create tests that connect physical and simulated components to provide a test-bed for developing all the characteristics of a new vehicle. Last but not least, driver assist systems can be developed, trialled and validated in a safe environment by reproducing the complex scenarios which may arise anywhere in the world.

Dynamic Simulator with latest generation DiM (Driver-in-Motion) technology
The Dynamic Simulator featuring latest generation DiM (Driver-in-Motion) technology, the most modern and advanced exemplar found in Europe, supports the Maserati engineers in the development of all the new models. The Dynamic Simulator incorporates state-of-the-art technology and enables full exploitation of systems' integration thanks to the evolution of proprietary control strategies, cutting development times and costs. It also helps to reduce the number of prototypes and ensures that the Virtual Sign-Off is very close to the final product.

With various directions of movement, this tool generates an effective driving experience, emulating in a virtual environment the driving dynamics of a car in the real world on a wide variety of road surfaces or contexts, including the world's top international racing circuits.

The simulator makes it possible to test cars on various racetracks on the same day. Modifications to the vehicle can be made with a few simple clicks and this greatly simplifies the analysis of the data gathered.

The majority of simulators utilize six actuators in order to offer six “degrees of freedom”. The innovative dynamic simulator used at the Innovation Lab takes full advantage of nine actuators, thanks to which it can utilize 3 degrees of freedom with the lower platform and 6 with the upper one. In this way it can offer in total 9 degrees of freedom to accurately reproduce the driving characteristics of a car. All of this enables the engineers to precisely analyse the dynamics of the car, in addition to driving performance and comfort, all on the same moving platform.

Another particularly interesting characteristic is a very thin cushion of air which makes the entire platform float over the pavement, enabling dynamic, silent and continuous movement thanks to the electric actuators.

The Dynamic Simulator featuring latest generation DiM (Driver-in-Motion) technology offers tried and tested technology that makes it possible to achieve a 50% reduction in time-to-market for new cars, to carry out 90% of all development on the simulator and to reduce by 40% the use of physical prototypes.

Using the simulator makes it possible to study and emulate the electrified vehicles included in Maserati's future plans even before physical tests become possible. Thus, the new opportunities offered by this different propulsion method can be analysed and explored in ways that keep the Maserati DNA absolutely intact.  Weight distribution and the location of the centre of gravity have been effectively optimised thanks to the scope for testing hundreds of different configurations. A centralised logic that guarantees all the car's active contents and its electric traction has been developed, maximising dynamic performances since the entire car provides an integrated reaction to all inputs from the driver.

Particular care has been focused on exploiting electric motors' vast potential in terms of power and rapid response.

The “User eXperience” development labs
The “User eXperience” development labs are fundamental in the design of the human-machine interfaces, one of the major challenges of the latest Maserati development projects.

The rapid evolution of connectivity and the use of driver assist systems, combined with electrification, generate a vast number of scenarios for multisensorial interaction with the vehicle, which are often completely new and require state-of-the-art tools for managing their extreme complexity, to take full advantage of all the opportunities and deliver a unique user experience, with competitive development times and costs.

The Maserati driver simulator hub includes a lab dedicated to vehicle ergonomics, enabling accurate reproduction of driving posture, visibility and interactions with the on-board controls and displays, and where the vehicle under development can be driven in any scenario with the utmost realism.

The integrated design of the user experience is aided by the effective, coherent visual, acoustic or haptic alerts in highly automated driving mode, from the level of distraction generated by the most frequent operations to the accessible layout of the controls, and full information in the different driving modes.

The ergonomics lab is completed by a set of sophisticated, specialised instrumentation to analyse the various issues that contribute to the user experience.

Two examples: the skylight simulator, designed to reproduce lighting conditions at all times of day, at any point in the year and at any latitude. Here there is an in-depth focus on reflection problems, to avoid disturbance at the wheel while still providing solutions with attractive shapes, materials, finishes and colours.

The psycho-acoustics lab where the soundtrack of future Maseratis is developed: the acoustics of the controls, the audio alerts, the driver assist systems and .... much more!

The "User eXperience” development labs support the integrated development of ergonomics, the human-machine interface and the vehicle's perceived quality for genuine "user-centred design" dedicated to delivering the distinctive Maserati user experience.

The end of production of the Maserati GranTurismo and GranCabrio marks the beginning of a new path for the Modena plant. Work is already under way to update the production line in view of a total renovation that will see the facility devoted to the construction of the new super sports model, a high-performance car, characterised by state-of-the art technology and scheduled to launch in 2020. In parallel, work has already started on a paint shop, a completely new addition to the facility, equipped with low environmental-impact, innovative technologies and boasting a special design enabling customers to personally view their cars as they are painted.

Maserati GranTurismo since 2007 in the Olympus of the GTs

The GranTurismo, presented at the Geneva International Motor Show in 2007, represents a milestone in the history of Maserati. This four-seat, two-door coupé, with Pininfarina’s classic design and a naturally aspirated 8-cylinder engine, came into being as a modern interpretation of the Maserati A6 1500 of 1947, and has come to be considered, over the course of time, one of the most emblematic cars ever constructed by Maserati. In 2009, where it was debuted at the Frankfurt International Motor Show, the GranCabrio joined the GranTurismo.

After various updates, the GranTurismo saw its final and last version with the MY18, in which an efficient restyling effort improved the aerodynamics, ergonomics and infotainment systems. The MY18 offered the iconic coupé in 16 exterior colours. Also available were 14 light alloy wheels in six different designs, brake callipers available in nine colours, and Exterior Carbon and Exterior Body Colour packs. With the MY18 the GranTurismo and GranCabrio range included two versions distinguished by a powerful, distinctive identity: Sport and MC (Maserati Corse). There are more than 400,000 possible combinations. The Maserati GranTurismo represents the maximum expression of the Brand’s GT character thanks to the charismatic 4.7 litre Ferrari V8 engine capable of delivering 460 hp at 7,000 rpm and 520 Nm of maximum torque at 4,750 rpm. Innumerable successes have been tallied by GranTurismo and GranCabrio in the years from 2007 to today; more than 40,000 of the iconic cars have been sold throughout the world, of which 28,805 were GranTurismo and 11,715 were GranCabrio.

8 - Maserati Tipo V4 and Mario Umberto "Baconìn" Borzacchini's Cremona Record

Modena, 30  September 2019 – On 28 September 1929, Mario Umberto “Baconìn” Borzacchini, at the wheel of a Maserati Tipo V4, set the world land speed record for the flying 10 kilometres. The car had made its race debut on 15 September, driven by Alfieri Maserati in the Monza Grand Prix, finishing the race in sixth place. Two weeks later, before the race at the Circuito di Cremona, the “Giornata dei record”, a time trial on the flying 10 kilometres, was organised. The race was held on the old state (now provincial) highway no. 10-Padania Inferiore, which runs in a straight line East-North-East out of the city of Cremona for approximately 17 km. The 10 km course started from the town hall at Gadesco Pieve Delmona and finished at Sant’Antonio d’Anniata, a village near Pessina Cremonese, with a 3 km margin for the flying start and for stopping.

The international rules required the course to be completed twice, once in each direction. The average of the times logged was approved for the purposes of the record. Borzacchini covered the uphill leg in 2’25”20/100, with an average speed of 247.933 km/h. On the downhill leg he took two more seconds, logging 2’27”40/100, giving an average of 244.233 km/h. His overall average time was 2’26”30/100, equivalent to a speed of 246.069 km/h: world record for class C (from 3,000 to 5,000 cc). This was an extraordinary achievement by Mario “Baconìn” Borzacchini, breaking the previous record, set by Ernest Eldridge at Montlhéry in 1927 with 225.776 km/h and a time of 2’39”45/100.

The record was an outstanding achievement, celebrated in Bologna with a dinner hosted by the Automobile Club attended by the city's top officials, the drivers and Enzo Ferrari, who took advantage of this opportunity to persuade the two wealthy Emilia-region businessmen Alfredo Caniato and Mario Tadini to establish the racing team which was to bear his name.

The Maserati Tipo V4 marked a major milestone for Maserati in terms of innovation. The aim was to produce a mighty powerplant by combining two identical straight eight engines. This complex design comprised two Tipo 26B engines mounted side by side, connected by a single crankcase containing two crankshafts.

The name Maserati Tipo V4 referred to the V layout of the rows of cylinders, placed at a 25° angle, and the displacement of 4 litres. Each of the two sets of cylinders had its own magneto ignition, its own carburettor with supercharger and its own crankshaft, giving a power output of over 280 HP.

The chassis was specially reinforced to cope with the massive power of the engine. It consisted of the usual C-section pressed steel section rails; the car had a 4-speed gearbox with a single propeller shaft ending at the rigid rear axle with semi-elliptical spring suspension. It proved impossible to eliminate the rapid tyre wear and the inadequacy of the braking system, problems generated by the car's immense power and considerable weight.

Key technical features of the Tipo V4:
Engine: sixteen cylinders, in two rows of eight in 25° V arrangement
Displacement: 3,961 cc
Power: from 280 hp to 305 hp
Transmission: mechanical four speeds + reverse
Chassis: riveted C-section pressed steel section rails and cross-members
Dry weight: 1,050 kg
Top speed: 260 km/h

In 2020, the Company will embark on electrification and the Maserati Ghibli, produced in Turin, will be the first hybrid electric propulsion for the brand.

The first of the totally new Maserati to appear will be the eagerly-anticipated sports car – packed with technology and reminescent of Maserati’s traditional values. It will be produced in the Modena plant, where major production line upgrades are also underway to accommodate its electric powertrain.

Next up will be a new Maserati utility vehicle, set to be built at Cassino and destined to play a leading role for the Brand thanks to its innovative technologies. An investment of approximately €800 million has been earmarked for the construction of the new production line, scheduled to open at the end of the first quarter of 2020. The first pre-series cars are expected to roll off the line by 2021.

After many years of success, GranTurismo and GranCabrio remain part of the Brand's roots and these models will herald the full electrification era for Maserati. The totally New GranTurismo and GranCabrio will be produced at the Turin production hub, where FCA is investing €800 million.

Production of the new models will complement that of the prestigious and continuously improving line-up of current Maserati range: Levante, Quattroporte and Ghibli.

With the introduction of various product innovations, Maserati is reinforcing the importance of Italy with regards to its production — particularly Modena, which will also continue to play a strategic role as the Brand’s headquarters.

Construction has already begun in Modena on a paint shop, a new feature for the plant, which will be equipped with innovative, low environmental-impact technologies. The design of the paint shop will also allow Maserati customers to watch their car being painted.

Finally, Maserati is developing an entirely new customization program for customers seeking a one-of-a-kind level of exclusivity. A dedicated customization workshop will be created within the Modena plant.

The 2019-2021 FCA investment plan for Italy, announced on 29th November in Turin, includes thirteen totally new or significantly updated FCA models and electrified versions of 12 new or existing models, including the Maserati products, the recently announced all-new electric version of the Fiat 500 to be produced at Mirafiori, and a new premium vehicle for Alfa Romeo to be produced at Pomigliano.

11 - Maserati Multi 70 and Giovanni Soldini are ready for the start of the 50th edition of the Transpacific Yacht Race

The race will start from Los Angeles tomorrow, July 13th at 12.30 local time

Modena, July 12th, 2019 - Maserati Multi 70’s Team and Giovanni Soldini are in Los Angeles, ready for the 50th edition of the Transpacific Yacht Race (commonly known as Transpac), which starts tomorrow, Saturday July 13th at 12.30 local time (19.30 UTC, 21.30 Italian time).

This edition of the Transpac attracted 90 entrants, among which there are six multihulls. Alongside Maserati Multi 70 there will be the American MOD 70 Argo, the English MOD 70 PowerPlay and the American 63’ trimaran Paradox. In the multihull category there will also be American catamarans Celestra and Kastor Pollux, respectively 40’ and 42’.

In addition to beating the multihull record, set in 2017 by the American ORMA 60 Mighty Merloe (4 days, 6 hours, 32 mi nutes and 30 seconds), the Italian trimaran and its competitors will race for the Rudy Choi Perpetual Trophy, awarded for the fastest multihull elapsed time.

Maserati Multi 70’s Team, who already participated in the Transpac in 2017, will compete again with the two MOD 70s, which they already challenged many times: American Argo, skippered by Jason Carroll, and English PowerPlay, skippered by Peter Cunningham. The two rival trimarans will sail in classic mode, even though Argo is working to develop a flying system and will race with flying rudders.

Since its first edition, raced in 1906 with only 3 entrants, the Transpac has become more and more important and today it is one of the most awaited and followed racing events.

The historical regatta starts from Pt. Fermin, Los Angeles leaving Catalina Island to port; the finish line, around 2225 miles away, is off Diamond Head, Honolulu, Hawaii.

The weather forecast shows typical conditions for this time of the year: «The first hours after the start will be the hardest» Giovanni Soldini explains, «there will be a wind hole but we will try to make our stand. Later, for around twelve hours, we will sail broad reach with a nice 20-25 wind. After that the wind will start to get lighter and turn to tailwind. We will have to try to stay in the best wind possible and, at the same time, sail around the high pressure».

Maserati Multi 70’s Team is continuing its research and testing in order to optimize the trimaran’s flying performance. Giovanni Soldini explains: «During the last race, the CA 500, we carried out some tests that helped us further improve the rudders’ system. We already tried it out on the water and it seems to work really well. Maserati Multi 70 is in good shape and we’re excited!».

For this edition of the Transpac, skipper Giovanni Soldini will be joined aboard Maserati Multi 70 by a crew of 7 expert sailors:

  • Alberto Bona (IT) – he has been passionate about sailing since his youth, he raced in several classes, including Mini 6.50s and Class 40s. He has many miles of sailing experience, two single-handed Atlantic crossings and 8 victories in the Mini 6.50 class. He already sailed many miles aboard the Italian trimaran during deliveries, and this edition of the Transpac will be his first race aboard Maserati Multi 70.
  • Guido Broggi (IT), mainsail trimmer - he is Maserati Multi 70’s boat captain and has thousands of miles of ocean sailing under his belt. He has been working alongside Giovanni Soldini for many years, since he was team leader in the building and in the racing preparation of 60’ Fila in 1998. He was part of Maserati Multi 70’s crew for the Tea Route record from Hong Kong to London and, in 2019, for the RORC Caribbean 600 and the CA 500.
  • Carlos Hernandez Robayna (ESP), trimmer – he has many years of sailing experience and has raced in various classes. He has sailed alongside Giovanni Soldini in several regattas and ocean crossings, among which the Transpacific Yacht Race and the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. Aboard Maserati Multi 70, he participated, in 2018, in the Rolex Middle Sea Race and in the RORC Transatlantic Race and, in 2019, in the RORC Caribbean 600.
  • Oliver Herrera Perez (ESP), bowman – throughout his career he raced aboard Ims 500s, Swan 45s and Rc44s. He was previously part of VOR 70 Maserati’s crew and now he continues to race as bowman aboard Maserati Multi 70. He crewed for Giovanni Soldini during the Tea Route record and, in 2019, for the RORC Caribbean 600 and the CA 500.
  • François Robert (FRA), pitman – he participated in many races, among which two Mini Transat and one Transat Jacques Vabre. He was part of the building Team for Giovanni Soldini’s 60’ Fila and Class 40 Telecom Italia. Aboard the Italian trimaran he participated in the latest edition of the Rolex Middle Sea Race and the RORC Transatlantic Race and, in 2019, in the CA 500.
  • Matteo Soldini (IT), grinder and trimmer – he has been part of the Maserati Multi 70 project since its start and has participated in many offshore races. He was part of the trimaran’s crew for the latest Rolex Middle Sea Race, the RORC Transatlantic Race, the RORC Caribbean 600 and the CA 500.

12 - Maserati celebrates the 50th anniversary of the first Indy coupé delivery

Modena, 1 July 2019 – The 1st of July 1969 is an important day in the history of Maserati, since the first Indy built for a customer left the Trident Brand's historic headquarters at via Ciro Menotti 322 in Modena, heading for delivery in Switzerland. The car was shipped to Maserati's Swiss importer of that time, “Martinelli e Sonvico” in Chiasso. A few days later, the Indy, in "oro metalizzato" external colour and brown leather interior, was consigned to a wealthy Swiss businessman.

The Maserati Indy was presented at the Turin Motor Show in 1968, on the Carrozzeria Vignale stand. The following year, the car officially debuted on the Maserati stand at the Geneva Motor Show. In 1968, Maserati built about 700 cars, the best result it had ever recorded since the opening of the Modena production plant. The Maserati range in 1968 was composed of Ghibli, Mexico, Mistral, Quattroporte and Sebring models. In the same year, Maserati achieved a 43% market share in the "over 3,500 cc” segment in Italy.

In response to demand from customers who were looking for a comfortable, habitable and sporting car, Maserati decided to develop a new model. This led to the start of the AM116 (Alfieri Maserati 116) project: Carrozzeria Vignale was commissioned to design a four-seater coupé that would deliver comfort, sporty performances and innovative looks. The outcome was the Indy, named in honour of the 8CTF's impressive wins at the Indianapolis 500 in 1939 and 1940.
The new Indy had large windows to ensure excellent visibility without blind spots, while also giving the car a particularly sleek line. It also featured many genuine sportscar details: the front included pop-up headlights, a real sportscar icon of the time, and an air scoop underneath the slender bumper. Another distinctive characteristic was the truncated rear, reflecting the strong focus on aerodynamic efficiency in the design phase.

Initially, the engine was a 4,136 cc V8 with bore of 88mm and stroke of 85mm, four Weber 42 DCNF carburettors and single-plug transistor ignition with battery and regulating distributor. The standard transmission was five-speed manual, with automatic gearbox on request. Its power output was 260 hp and top speed peaked at 250 km/h.

In 1970 the Indy was also offered with the 4,719 cc V8 engine, equipped with the new electronic ignition system developed by Bosch. The maximum power output was boosted to 290 hp, with a top speed of 280 km/h.

From 1971, the 300 hp, a 4,930 cc engine was introduced alongside the existing powerplants, and from 1973 this became the only propulsion unit available for the Indy.

The Maserati Indy boasted a high specification as standard: leather seat upholstery, mechanical anti-theft system, adjustable steering wheel, heated rear window, tinted power windows, reclining front seats with headrests and iodine headlights. Automatic gearbox, power steering and radio were available as optionals. From 1973, an air-conditioning system was added as standard. In total, from 1969 to 1975, the Modena plant built 1,102 Indy cars.

Prominent customers included Abdorreza Pahlavi, the Shah of Persia’s brother, who ordered an Indy in 1974, specifying a number of optionals including an opening sunroof. The car was prepared to his requirements and delivered at the company headquarters in February 1975. The car still survives and is now in a private collection.

Key technical features of the Maserati Indy:
Production dates: 1969 - 1975
Chassis: semi-monocoque with front subframe
Engine: 90° V8
Displacement: from 4,136 cc to 4,930 cc
Power: from 260 hp to 300 hp
Transmission: mechanical five-speed; Borg Warner three-speed automatic on request
Braking system: ventilated discs with servo system
Weight: from 1,500 kg to 1,650 kg
Top speed: from 250 Km/h to 280 Km/h

13 - Maserati 8CTF: fantastic win at the Indianapolis 500 in 1939

  • Eighty years ago, the Maserati 8CTF “Boyle Special” triumphed on the Indiana oval
  • After 20 years, finally a European win at the Indianapolis 500

Modena, 30 May 2019 – Today Maserati celebrates the eightieth anniversary of the Maserati 8CTF's fantastic win at the Indianapolis 500. On Sunday May 30 1939, the Maserati 8CTF, driven by 27-year-old Warren Wilbur Shaw, crossed the line first after a race lasting 4 hours and 20 minutes at an average speed of over 115 miles (equivalent to 185 km) per hour. Even today, Indiana-born Wilbur Shaw is still one of the 5 most successful drivers in the history of the Indianapolis race, with 3 victories (1937, 1939 and 1940, the last two at the wheel of an 8CTF) and 3 second places (1933, 1935 and 1938), out of a total of 13 appearances.

This was not the first experience in the US for the Trident marque, as Alfieri Maserati had previously been invited by the organisers to attend a number of races in America in the early 1930s. Subsequently, the sale of the company's shares to the Orsi Group in May 1937 enabled the Maserati brothers to concentrate on designing new racing cars. At that time, the international racing authority had decided to change the technical rules for Grand Prix cars: with effect from 1938 they were going to introduce tighter restrictions, with displacement no longer unregulated but now limited on the basis of the car's weight, with a maximum of 3,000 cc for supercharged engines. Ernesto Maserati based the development and construction of a new car, called the 8CTF, on these new rules.

The chassis adopted the standard layout for single-seater racers of the era, with two steel section bar rails and cross-members, while the car had a straight 8 engine with cylinders in two groups of 4, cast in a monoblock with the cylinder head: hence the name "8CTF", or 8 cylinders “Testa Fissa" - fixed head.

Displacement was 2,991.4 cc with a compression ratio of 6.5:1 and the engine was supercharged, with two carburettors and two volumetric compressors. The timing system, with two valves per cylinder in a 90° V arrangement, was driven by two overhead camshafts.

The Maserati 8CTF came to Indianapolis after taking part in a number of races in 1938 which revealed its great potential: Count Carlo Felice Trossi had led the Tripoli GP for several laps, and had taken pole position in the Coppa Ciano. The legendary Luigi “Gigi” Villoresi had recorded the fastest lap in the Coppa Acerbo. These results had attracted a number of customers, who had placed orders for the car. This was how Maserati came to sell a Maserati 8CTF to the Chicago-based US team Boyle Racing Headquarters, owned by Irishman Michael Joseph “Mike” Boyle.  Boyle, passionate about motorsports from an early age, had set himself the goal of winning America's most famous race, the Indianapolis 500, with a car funded by himself and managed by his team. Before purchasing the Maserati 8CTF, Boyle had taken part in several editions of the race with other cars: Summers, Cooper, Smith, entered in the various years under the Boyle Products/Henning, Boyle Motor Products or IBEW Boyle Racing names, but with little to show for it.

Early in 1939, Boyle's team manager, Harry W. “Cotton” Henning, arrived in Bologna to buy an 8CTF from Maserati. Once delivered to America, the car was prepared for the race with larger wheels and Firestone tyres, and painted in the Boyle Racing Headquarters amaranth colour livery. It was entered as a “Boyle Special” in the hands of Warren Wilbur Shaw, who started the race, on 30 May 1939, with the third fastest qualifying time, recorded at almost 129 miles an hour (or 207.7 km/h), and came home victorious after leading for 51 laps, after a hard-fought struggle with Louis Meyer's Stevens-Winfield and Jimmy Snyder's Adams-Sparks. This was a historic victory for Maserati, since no European car had won on the Indiana track since 1919.

Its 1939 triumph brought Maserati huge international recognition, and at the next edition of the Indianapolis 500 three more of its cars were entered as well as the one driven by Shaw himself. Wilbur Shaw won again in 1940, confirming the 8CTF's superiority in terms of speed, reliability over long distances and excellent road holding. These victories on the historic US track bestowed unique prestige on Maserati, reinforced by the fact that in the post-war years 8CTF cars, in typically American liveries, starred not only on the Indianapolis speedway itself but also on ovals across the United States.

The 8CTF's amazing career, one of the longest and most glorious of any single-seater racer, ended in 1950, after Bill Vulcanich failed to qualify for that year's Indianapolis 500.

In 2014 the United States HVA (Historical Vehicle Association) registered the legendary Maserati 8CTF as the first non-American production car to be awarded a permanent place in the annals of the US Library of Congress. Recorded under the Secretary of the Interior’s "Standards for Heritage Documentation", the documentation has been placed in the NHVR (National Historic Vehicle Register) and HAER (Historic American Engineering Record).

One of the three cars built, chassis number 3032, the one in which Wilbur Shaw triumphed in at the 1939 and 1940 Indianapolis 500, has been reconfigured with the paintwork it bore on those glorious days and is currently on display at the Indianapolis Speedway Museum.

The CA 500 is the last event of the California Offshore Race Week, a series of races organized by the Encinal Yacht Club, the Monterey Peninsula Yacht Club, the Santa Barbara Yacht Club and the San Diego Yacht Club.

The CA 500 course, from San Francisco to San Diego, is approximately 500 miles long: after crossing the starting line, off St. Francis Yacht Club, the fleet will have to leave Farallon Island Light to port before heading towards the finish line off San Diego.

This year for the first time the CA 500 has been added to the California Offshore Race Week. The series, born in 2016, includes 3 other races, with shorter courses: the Spinnaker Cup, the Coastal Cup and the SoCal 300.

There are 3 other boats entering the race alongside Maserati Multi 70: in the multihull category the American MOD 70 Argo, skippered by Jason Carroll, and the English MOD 70 PowerPlay, skippered by Peter Cunningham; in the monohull category Swan 461 Free.

This will be the first time Maserati Multi 70 will compete against both MOD 70s, which she has already challenged individually: the Italian trimaran has raced against Argo during the RORC Caribbean 600 in February 2019; the Team has competed against PowerPlay during the Rolex Middle Sea Race, in October 2018, and during the RORC Transatlantic Race, in November 2018. Maserati Multi 70’s Team conquered Multihull Line Honours in all three regattas.

Maserati Multi 70 will sail in flying mode, unlike her direct rivals, who will sail in classic MOD mode. Through continuous research and tests to improve the trimaran’s flying performance, the Italian Team has developed new settings for the flying foils and T-shaped rudders. The two rudders, on starboard and port side, will be set to different compensation and foil area parameters, so the Team will be able to test these new configurations during the race.

Giovanni Soldini explains: «We’re very happy to participate in the CA 500, which is a great training for the Transpac (Transpacific Yacht Race, ed) and a perfect opportunity to race against our competitors. During this race we will carry out many tests, we can’t wait to try out the new configurations and settings both of the foils and rudders, and of the sails. Our attitude for this race will be different: we will be more focused on optimizing Maserati Multi 70’s flying performance and less concerned about what our competitors are doing».

During the first 12 hours of the race, weather forecasts show 25 knots of NW wind, with gusts up to 30 knots, and rough sea: it will be difficult for Maserati Multi 70 to fly steadily. Closer to the finish line, in the last 100 miles, the wind will drop abruptly, but at the moment the forecasts vary: the European models indicate a wind between 3 and 4 knots, whereas the American models are more optimistic.

For the CA 500, alongside skipper Giovanni Soldini, there will be 6 professional sailors aboard Maserati Multi 70:

  • Willy Altadill (ESP), trimmer – born in 1992, he started sailing when he was very young and began racing in professional regattas at the age of 17. In 2011 he participated in the Rolex Fastnet Race aboard maxi yacht Leopard, conquering first place; he crewed aboard MAPFRE for the Volvo Ocean Race both in the 2014-15 and the 2017-18 editions.
  • Guido Broggi (IT), mainsail trimmer – born in 1971, he is Maserati Multi 70’s boat captain and has thousands of miles of ocean sailing under his belt. He has been working alongside Giovanni Soldini for many years, since he was team leader in the building and in the racing preparation of 60’ Fila in 1998. He was part of Maserati Multi 70’s crew for the Tea Route record from Hong Kong to London and, in 2019, for the RORC Caribbean 600.
  • Oliver Herrera Perez (ESP), bowman – born in 1987, in his career he raced aboard Ims 500s, Swan 45s and Rc44s. He was previously part of VOR 70 Maserati’s crew and now he continues to race as bowman aboard Maserati Multi 70. He crewed for Giovanni Soldini during the Tea Route record and the RORC Caribbean 600.
  • Nico Malingri (IT), grinder and trimmer – born in 1991, he started sailing at a very young age and has conquered two double-handed records with his father Vittorio Malingri aboard a 20-foot-long catamaran: the Marseilles-Carthage in 2016 and the Dakar-Guadeloupe in 2017. Aboard Maserati Multi 70 he participated in the latest editions of the Rolex Middle Sea Race, the RORC Transatlantic Race and the RORC Caribbean 600.
  • François Robert (FRA), pitman – born in 1967, he participated in many races, among which two Mini Transat and one Transat Jacques Vabre. He was part of the building Team for Giovanni Soldini’s 60’ Fila and Class 40 Telecom Italia. Aboard the Italian trimaran he participated in the latest edition of the Rolex Middle Sea Race and the RORC Transatlantic Race.
  • Matteo Soldini (IT), grinder and trimmer – born in 1993, he has been part of the Maserati Multi 70 project since its start and has participated in many offshore races, including one edition of the RORC Caribbean 600. He was part of the trimaran’s crew for the latest Rolex Middle Sea Race, RORC Transatlantic Race and RORC Caribbean 600.

The CA 500 is the second regatta in Maserati Multi 70 and Giovanni Soldini’s 2019 racing season, following the RORC Caribbean 600 in February. The Italian Team will then participate in the 50th edition of the Transpacific Yacht Race, from Point Fermin, California, to Honolulu, Hawaii, starting on July 13th. After that, the Italian trimaran will set course towards Asia, to participate to the Hong Kong to Vietnam Race, starting on October 16th.

17 - Master Maserati Driving Courses celebrate their 20th anniversary in partnership with Scuderia de Adamich

Modena, 30 April 2019 – Today sees the start of the new season of Master Maserati Driving Courses, with 11 events scheduled at the Varano de’ Melegari circuit, concluding on 7 November this year.

This year, the House of the Trident celebrates the twentieth anniversary of its Master Maserati Driving Courses in partnership with Scuderia de Adamich.

In the spring of 1999 the Master Maserati project was launched, with the first 2-day Master GT course, held at the “Autodromo Riccardo Paletti” at Varano de’ Melegari and attended by 12 customers. Under the supervision of Andrea de Adamich, a lifetime racing aficionado and former F1 driver, and his staff, participants took the wheel of powerful 3200 GT coupé cars for a series of activities combined with specific on-track exercises, with state-of-the-art data acquisition systems to analyse their performance on the circuit, provide invaluable feedback and correct driving errors.

The first instructors also included former F1 driver Ivan Capelli, now President of ACI (Italian Automobile Club) Milan.

Since then, more than 500 Master Maserati Driving Courses have been held, with over 700 days on the circuit. Over 7,000 customers and enthusiasts from more than 50 different countries have taken the wheel of the various Maserati models during the courses' twenty years in operation.

From 1999 to the present, almost 30 different Maserati models have been used for these courses. Participants have always had the opportunity to drive the Quattroporte flagship and, since 2014, the Ghibli sport sedan. The 3200 GT Coupé represented the Brand's sporting personality from 1998 until its replacement in 2008 by the new GranTurismo in its various trims.

The cars featured in the Trofeo Maserati, the Coupé Cambiocorsa and subsequently the GranSport and GranSport MC, are also included in the fleet used for courses focused on perfecting on-circuit racing techniques. Today, the GranTurismo MC GT4 is the key model of the “Race” and “Championship” courses for customers and enthusiasts who love this type of sports car.

From 2016 Levante, the first SUV in Maserati's over a century of history, also took to the track with an innovative new format combining circuit driving sessions with off-road experiences. To accommodate these, a new 11 km off-road track was created near the circuit. Located within a nature reserve, it offers a variety of routes and some particularly demanding stretches, with a wealth of natural and custom-built obstacles, to teach participants the secrets of off-road driving on board the Levante SUV.

For 2019 the Master Maserati Driving Courses offer no fewer than five different formats with different thrilling experiences at the wheel of Trident cars.

Four types of courses focus on circuit driving at the “Riccardo Paletti” track at Varano de’ Melegari, in the Maserati Quattroporte, Ghibli, GranTurismo, GranCabrio and Levante models.

One further course is specifically for businesses seeking to grow and consolidate team spirit, making full use of the enjoyment and ethos of the unique, tailor-made Master Maserati Driving Course.

Master Maserati Driving Courses use the Modena firm's full range of cars, with the aim of constantly improving participants' driving skills and style thanks to constant coaching by professional drivers in the role of instructors.

Courses are open to all enthusiasts of the Maserati world - not just to those who already own a Maserati, but also to aspiring customers - and are held at the “Autodromo Riccardo Paletti” at Varano de’ Melegari, approximately 20 km from the city of Parma. The 2.3 km circuit features the famous “Ferro di Cavallo” (Horseshoe) bend, which tests drivers' skills to the full and combines outstanding technical characteristics with highly professional support facilities.

Scuderia de Adamich has been partner and coordinator of the Master Maserati Driving Courses since 1999. A bond that is stronger than ever today, and has allowed the courses' methods and various formats to be continually fine-tuned and improved ever since the earliest years.

In addition to the Master Maserati Driving Courses held at Varano de’ Melegari, other formats have been created over the years at different locations, such as the Master Maserati Ice & Snow at Cortina d’Ampezzo, St Moritz in Switzerland and Arjeplog in Sweden (only seventy or so kilometres from the Arctic Circle). These courses offer participants the chance to perfect their driving skills and appreciate Maserati cars' outstanding performances also in extreme environments with slippery road surfaces.

18 - Maserati Reveals ONE OF ONE Personalized Levante SUV Custom Crafted for Two-Time NBA Champion Ray Allen Inspired by the City of Miami

Modena, Italy  -  18 April 2019 – Just as Ray Allen was a star on the court, the world debut of his Maserati Levante GTS ONE OF ONE is sure to be the star of the 2019 New York International Auto Show.  This latest creation of Maserati’s ONE OF ONE customization program is entirely personalized for the two-time NBA Champion and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inductee.  In New York on April 17, Ray will receive the keys to his never seen before Maserati Levante GTS ONE OF ONE and consumers will be able to view his unique vehicle during the auto show.

The Centro Stile Maserati worked alongside Ray to configure his vehicle in a process of shared creation based on a broad concept to capture his love for Miami. In this unique project, Ray spoke about himself, his victories and his personal history, and created a special bond with the Italian based design team that translated Ray’s vision into a truly unique, personally customized Maserati Levante GTS SUV. This special Maserati Levante GTS ONE OF ONE features “Blu Astro” tri-coat exterior paint, inspired by the astral blue color of the galaxy, but also the colors of the magical city of Miami. Thanks to the matte finish, the overall chromatic effect is luminous and vibrant, but also metallic and anodized, giving the car a sportier and more technical look, also conveyed by carbon fiber exterior details on the side mirror covers and door handles.

The deep dark chrome finish details (air vent covers, grille, license plate bracket, exhaust tips, the Maserati and Levante badges and the trident badge on the rear pillar) contrast with the matte “Blu Astro” paint and give the exterior an intriguing, nocturnal look. The 22-inch diamond rims feature a deep dark chrome tint, while the brake calipers are finished to match in the same matte “Blu Astro” exterior color, making the Maserati SUV even sportier.

The colors chosen for the interior are also very particular: the instrument panel, center console, door panels and seats were inspired by a casual and timeless material: the blue denim. The central insert of the seat is embroidered with multiple elements, giving more personality and three-dimensionality to the Sport seat but without losing the excellent ventilation of Maserati seats. The leather used for the interiors, in a special denim blue color, is aniline-dyed with vegetable tanning, a particular leather-working process that results in an exclusive and unique product. This leather stands out for its fine and extremely natural quality, and its color shades create a unique appearance that changes over time, just like fine stone-washed denim, thus acquiring even more personality and character.

The interior trims (center console, dashboard insert, and door panel inserts) are characterized by carbon fiber with blue thread woven into the structure, evoking the colours of Miami, the cityscape and the ocean, and giving a tactile and technical effect thanks to the 3D surface finish. This unique material is currently not present on any vehicles in the Maserati line-up.

Adding to the deep attention to detail, the Maserati Centro Stile created special floor mats for Ray’s Levante GTS ONE OF ONE that play on the mix of two very different materials. The textile is inspired by the strings of a basketball net, woven using a unique technique that makes the mats both technical and sporty, while the XL Extralight material (a closed-cell foam made with polyolefin resins, ultra-light and antibacterial) is inspired by sneaker soles, creating an overall image that is fresh and urban.

In addition to the contrast stitching on the denim colored dashboard, seats and door panels, the Maserati team also used the same chromatic motif on the stitched headrest logos. As a hidden personal detail, Ray’s signature is embroidered behind the driver's headrest, so it can only be seen by family and friends inside his Maserati Levante. Another distinctive feature is found on the backlit  door sill inserts, a laser engraving reading Maserati “for Ray”.

ONE OF ONE: NEW CUSTOMIZATION PROGRAM

Maserati features Italian artisanal craftsmanship with the finest finishes through its ONE OF ONE customization program.  Customers select from thousands of interior and exterior options to meet their personal needs and tastes.  Whether it’s a favorite color palette, material or design inspiration, the Maserati design team works closely with each client to create a vehicle, as unique as each person who drives it. This program exemplifies Maserati’s ability to construct customized one-of-a-kind automobiles.  This ONE OF ONE program will roll out to North American dealers in the near future to satisfy the discerning tastes of clients.

Maserati’s product range includes the powerful and refined Levante SUV, the Ghibli sport sedan, the flagship Quattroporte sedan, and the legendary GranTurismo Convertible that perfectly represents Maserati’s DNA.

19 - Maserati Quattroporte GranLusso: A ONE OF ONE for an exceptional customer at the Shanghai Auto Show 2019

  • Maserati Quattroporte GranLusso: a ONE OF ONE for Mr. Xuan Feng, completely customized by the Maserati Centro Stile
  • An interactive experience of Italian excellence applying a highly sophisticated flat screen table: Maserati presents the latest developments in customization
  • The MY19 range on display

Modena, 16 April 2019 – Kicking off the Shanghai Auto Show, one of the most important fairs in Asia, Maserati is presenting a unique new model. Showcasing a preview of its future customization programme, Maserati is presenting a Quattroporte GranLusso ONE OF ONE, customized by Maserati Centro Stile in collaboration with a VIP customer: Mr. Xuan Feng, Chief Editor of T-Magazine China.

Maserati is intensifying its focus on customization showcasing it’s innate Italian characteristics by combining virtuous craftsmanship, state-of-the-art technology and sophisticated design.

Highlights of this efforts are the Quattroporte S Q4 GranLusso MY19, characterized by interiors featuring Zegna PELLETESSUTA™, a new and unique material created by Ermenegildo Zegna exclusively for Maserati.

Along with the Quattroporte GranLusso ONE OF ONE and the Quattroporte S MY19 with interiors in Zegna PELLETESSUTA™, Maserati is also displaying Levante and Ghibli MY19, both with the GranLusso trim.

MASERATI QUATTROPORTE GRANLUSSO: THE XUAN FENG ONE OF ONE
The most prominently featured model on the Maserati stand at the 2019 Shanghai Auto Show is the Quattroporte GranLusso ONE OF ONE, which provides a preview of Maserati’s future customization programme. The unique, fully customized Maserati Quattroporte GranLusso was designed for and with the owner, Chief Editor of T-Magazine China, Xuan Feng.

The Maserati Centro Stile guided Mr. Feng through the process of configuring his car, carrying out a collaborative customization operation which enabled the customer to actively participate in the creative process: not only did the customer select the accessories and the configuration, but he was fully involved in the personalization of his own car.

This was an exclusive project in which Xuan Feng told the Maserati Centro Stile his own personal story, including his passions and goals in life, translating his personal history and passions into his unique Maserati.

This new level of customization truly connects Xuan Feng’s personality and lifestyle.

The Quattroporte GranLusso ONE OF ONE features an exterior colour specially created for the customer. Xuan Feng’s choice: a light blue with opaque trim, evoking worn denim material, perfectly capturing his personality and lifestyle.

The interior: distinguished by a combination of traditional black and the new “Bianco Ghiaccio” colour: the lower dashboard, the door panels and seats feature this two-tone scheme in order to imbue the cabin with a rich and contemporary feel.

The upholstery of the seats features vertical stitching inspired by the classic pinstripe pattern of men’s fabrics. Thanks to the special dying process that takes place in oak casks, a technique that allows enough time for the pigments to be naturally absorbed by the leather, the fine Pieno Fiore leather, takes on an elegant, deep and luminous colour. The leather is soft and supple, with a light and deliberately irregular texture, imbuing it with structure and character. The stitching for the door panels and upper dashboard repeat the denim light blue tone of the exterior.

The central console, the dashboard fascia and door panels of the Quattroporte GranLusso ONE OF ONE for Xuan Feng are made from 100% natural burl wood, characterized by a denim light blue colour, recalling the exterior and creating a sophisticated impression. This particular burl was used for the very first time on a car.

The Maserati Centro Stile created for Xuan Feng two unique floor mat kits in different colours: one in Bianco Ghiaccio in order to accentuate the brightness of the interior, and the other in Blu Indigo to evoke the unique exterior colour.

AN INTERACTIVE EXPERIENCE INVOLVING WORKING TABLES OF ITALIAN PRODUCTS OF EXCELLENCE
Maserati will host - together with Ermenegildo Zegna, a longstanding partner and a leader in the field of men’s luxury clothing - two other leading artisanal firms in their field:  Giorgetti, the internationally renowned Italian woodworking company, known for its furniture and unique design pieces, and De Castelli, a leading metalworking firm, specializing in the production of unique home design accessories, custom surfaces and projects.

The stand provides an interactive journey through three different thematic areas, each of them with a dedicated working table. Each area will feature a display of materials and components that bear witness to the unending quest for excellence, style and originality, typical of products designed and Made in Italy, and therefore typical of Maserati.

Regarding innovation, design and customization, for the first time ever Maserati applies a D-Table, the only multi-touch, interactive flat screen table featuring an elegant and sophisticated design. Latest-generation software will enable customers to configure their cars by selecting external and internal combinations, colours and materials at a touch. Thus offering a unique experience and real-time visualization for the configuration of their individual Maserati, using all customization features offered.

Ermenegildo Zegna - Working Table
The Zegna working table illustrates the Zegna-Maserati tailoring atelier, from the preliminary phase of weaving the PELLETESSUTATM using spools of sturdy bands of leather, through to the rolls of resulting woven material in the Maserati leather colours (black, tan, red and dark brown).

Like a fine, made-to-measure shoe, this PELLETESSUTATM (woven leather) adapts its shape to the sinuous surface of the Maserati Quattroporte dashboard (the featured element of the interior, over which the PELLETESSUTATM fits perfectly; the three-dimensionality of the woven strips of leather create a tactile surface for this component, restoring light and texture, imbuing the volume of this component with expressive force). Two Quattroporte dashboard fascias covered with black and tan PELLETESSUTATM are on display.

Five different decorative Maserati Levante door panel trim elements demonstrate the many opportunities for chromatic customization of the Maserati PELLETESSUTATM.

The PELLETESSUTATM tiles represent joint studies and design research between the Ermenegildo Zegna Style Centre and Maserati, exploring jacquard designs that mix colours, graphic elements and patterns with an eye to potential customizations.

The sketches depict the research carried out by the Masearti Centro Stile into textures, their visual application to the various components and efforts to balance and harmonize colours within the context of the car interior.

Giorgetti - Working Table
The Giorgetti working table features outstanding woodworking and cabinetry skills. By means of three Quattroporte dashboard inserts Giorgetti illustrates the central role of wood when it comes to Maserati components, highlighting how initial mechanical processes are followed by manual ones, operations like precision carving work, turning and modelling in three of the 12 Giorgetti wood varieties: Ash, Walnut and Maple.

The table also features a wooden panel in antiqued Ash with Shibori decorations, the inspiration for the two Quattroporte dashboard fascias which feature this technique in a micro-shibori version, styled and expressed all-over pattern sections. The smallest dashboard inserts feature the same treatment for larger elements on the dashboard in antiqued Ash burl wood and natural Ash burl wood.

Finally, the sheets of veneer complete the table as elements of stylistic research in which Giorgetti and Maserati experiment with wood varieties transformed into 3D-pattern, landscapes in the case of the Ziricote wood, or dynamic textural effects in the case of the Tanganika Frise.

De Castelli - Working Table
The working table illustrates the meeting between the Italian excellence of De Castelli, when it comes to creative metal surfacing, and Maserati’s eagerness to embrace and interpret this poetry in metal. The sophistication of the metal working processes applied to its interior components (the dashboard fascia and the pedal trims) serves to further enhance the interior, not only functionally but also by introducing a sense of poetry and textural allure. A storytelling inspired by the chromatic richness of the Italian sea and landscape.

The four sheets of metal demonstrate the process of working the semi-finished material. The sheet of raw material in its pure form is subjected to a manual hammering phase, fashioning it into the shape of the Maserati Quattroporte dashboard. The featured element of this interior, is perfectly suited to communicating the subtle chromatic and poetic transitions of the DeMarea finish, selected for this exquisite work of art. The other two elements illustrate the phases of oxidation and surface transformation of the brass: human manuality, creativity and sense of aesthetic pleasure decide when to stop time and halt the process of oxidation, ascertaining the perfect moment for obtaining the DeMarea gradient. This process is simply defining the uniqueness of each detail.

On the artisan’s working table and creative space, the process of storytelling unfolds with the help of tools and historical instruments, where metal sheet is shaped into a work of art.

Subjected to various surface treatments, the sheets of metal convey the excellence of the De Castelli world, not to mention Maserati’s flair for design.

The working table also displays Quattroporte dashboard fascia with the DeMarea Iron, DeMarea Copper and DeMarea Brass finish. The DeMarea trilogy illustrates a single process composed of superimposed, polysemous manual oxidation operations. These are all inspired by Italian sea and landscapes, creating “watercolour” effects, conveying highly textural sensations and evocations of waves lapping against Venice’s signature mooring posts.

The collaboration between De Castelli and Maserati also expresses itself in the pedals. These key elements for operating a car have been embellished with a hand-applied oxidation treatment, boasting a more sophisticated flair in the DeMarea Copper kit, combined with the luxurious pad in vegetal-tanned Saddle Extra leather, which is inspired by the soles of made-to-measure shoes. While a more “art workshop” flair distinguishes the DeMarea Iron kit, brandishing logos engraved with the Maserati name.

The sketches depict the research carried out by the Maserati Centro Stile into textures, their visual application to the various components and efforts to balance and harmonize colours within the context of the car interior.

Maserati S.p.A.
Maserati produces a complete range of unique cars with an amazing personality, immediately recognisable anywhere. With their style, technology and innately exclusive character, they delight the most discerning, demanding tastes and have always been an automotive industry benchmark. Ambassadors of this heritage are the Quattroporte flagship, the Ghibli sports sedan, the Levante, Maserati’s very first SUV, and the GranTurismo and GranCabrio sports cars. 23 - Maserati at Milan International Design Week Maserati Crafting Italian Experiences

Modena, 9th April 2019 –  Following its premiere at the Geneva International Motor Show, Maserati proposes an exclusive programme at the world’s most important Design Week in Milan, where it is giving tribute to Italian ‘products of excellence’  which are available as a customization options on its new car ranges.

The “Maserati Crafting Italian Experiences” tour starts in the elegant Brera design district in the heart of the historic centre of Milan, a famous area dedicated to the arts and home of the Pinacoteca Art Gallery. In this exclusive setting, visitors can admire the displayed Levante ONE OF ONE customized by Allegra Antinori and previously exhibited at the Geneva Show. This special Levante, was configured in a genuine joint creation process by Ms. Antinori with the help of the Centro Stile Maserati. In this first customization project, every detail defined by Ms. Antinori is closely linked to a facet of her personality: from the distinctive tri-coat green colour inspired by the Tuscan hills to the interior with its unique "Pieno Fiore" leather seats. Coloured with aniline and oils, the seats do not have a surface finish but are embellished with classical 3D-effect button-tufted embroidery.

This technique guarantees exceptional colour depth and a velvety smooth texture which, like a fine wine, will improve with age. A real work of art, finished with unique and exclusive materials.

The second stage of the “Maserati Crafting Italian Experiences” project stops at The Flagship Store belonging to De Castelli. This leading metal working firm specializes in the production of home furnishing accessories, surfaces and custom projects. Inside its Flagship Store in the heart of the San Babila district, on Corso Monforte, De Castelli shows what happens when it combines its expertise in metal surfaces with Maserati's eagerness to embrace "metal poetry". When applied to the internal components of the car (the dashboard and the pedals), its sophisticated metalwork creates a noble aspect all the while adding style and textural allure. The chromatic tone is inspired by the rich colours of the Italian landscape.

The journey continues in another elegant area of Milan, Porta Venezia, with a unique visit to the exclusive Giorgetti Atelier. Giorgetti, the internationally renowned Italian woodworking company, is known for its furniture and unique design pieces. Here, it is possible to admire the Quattroporte dashboard inserts. Giorgetti illustrates the central role of wood in Maserati components. On three of the 12 Giorgetti wood varieties (Ash, Walnut and Maple), different processes are used: first mechanical and then manual which consists of carving, turning and modelling.

Next is the turn of Milan's most exclusive zone the “Quadrilatero della Moda.” Maserati, synonymous with style, has chosen via Pietro Verri, location of the Concept Store of Alcantara. A global ambassador of 'Made in Italy', Alcantara is a company founded in 1972, that combines outstanding designs with great efforts regarding sustainability that have earned Alcantara the Carbon Neutrality certification.

Alcantara is a highly innovative material that offers an unrivalled combination of sensory, aesthetic and functional properties. Extraordinarily versatile, Alcantara is chosen by top brands in many different fields of application, from fashion and accessories to automotive, interior design and all the way to hi-tech. On this occasion, it is displaying an installation dedicated to Maserati underlining the uniqueness of its applications, born from the collaboration between the two companies’ Stiles Centers.

The “Maserati Crafting Italian Experiences” finishes at the Boutique Ermenegildo Zegna, in Via Montenapoleone 27/E. Here Maserati and its historic partner Ermenegildo Zegna, leader in men’s luxury wear, have the pleasure of exhibiting the new Maserati Capsule Collection for Spring-Summer 2019.  The exhibit includes a sophisticated selection of leather goods, travel clothes and elegant accessories. This is just another example of top-quality products from two iconic Italian brands. At the most recent Geneva International Motor Show, Maserati and Ermenegildo Zegna presented PELLETESSUTATM, a special woven nappa leather resulting from the pioneering research carried out by Zegna. An exquisitely innovative, lightweight, extremely versatile and soft fabric ideal for designing objects ranging from home furnishing complements to multimedia accessories.

A range complete as never before, with petrol and diesel engines, rear and all-wheel drive, the finest materials and outstanding engineering. A tradition of successful cars, each of them redefining what makes an Italian sports car in terms of design, performance, comfort, elegance and safety.

24 - Maserati Levante: the Allegra Antinori's ONE OF ONE and the interactive Italian Excellence products experience at the 89th Geneva International Motor Show

  • Maserati Levante: Allegra Antinori’s ONE OF ONE completely customized by the Centro Stile Maserati
  • An interactive experience involving working tables of Italian materials of excellence: Maserati presents the first step in customization

Geneva, 5 March 2019 – Europe's biggest Show of the year gets under way and Maserati presents a Maserati Levante ONE OF ONE giving a foretaste of the future customization programme. It has been customized to fit the profile of Allegra Antinori, Vice President of Italian wine producer Marchesi Antinori.

At this 89th edition of the Geneva international Motor Show, Maserati further highlights customization and the superlative expression of Italian identity with a blend of exquisite craftsmanship, state-of-the-art technology and sophisticated aesthetics: a unique, exclusive mix achieved through an interactive experience involving the Italian materials of excellence present on the stand.

MASERATI LEVANTE: THE ALLEGRA ANTINORI ONE OF ONE

At the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show, Maserati presents an absolute novelty: the Levante ONE OF ONE, a foretaste of Maserati's future customization programme. The stand showcases a Maserati Levante ONE OF ONE entirely customized by Allegra Antinori, Vice President of Italian wine firm Marchesi Antinori, world leader in quality wines.

The Centro Stile Maserati assisted Allegra Antinori in the configuration of her car, in a genuine process of shared creation, a concept which is much more than the mere choice of accessories.

A unique project in which she expresses herself, her emotions and her story. Implemented in this way, the special bond between Maserati's ground-breaking innovation and the attention to detail normally found in the workshops of traditional craftsmen comes to life in a unique Maserati.

In this first example of the new customization process, every detail Allegra Antinori has defined is closely linked to a facet of her personality. The external configuration is a distinctive tri-coat green, a special, unique colour inspired by the shades of the Tuscan hills. The external details (door handles, side air vents and grille inserts) are finished in dark look chrome, toning to perfection with the body colour to give the Maserati SUV a truly sophisticated overall look.

The interiors of Allegra Antinori's ONE OF ONE features many unique combinations, which have never previously been used on a Levante. The lower dashboard, door panel, central tunnel unit and seat colour references the warm hues of the earth of Tuscan vineyards.

The unique "Pieno Fiore" leather used for the seats is another exquisite choice: it is coloured with aniline and oils, with no surface finishes, but is ornamented with classical button-tufted effect 3D embroidery. The technique used provides exceptional depth of colour and a very smooth tactile sensation, and like a fine wine, this leather will simply improve with age.

The central tunnel is in a special finish using a material that is new even for Maserati: carbon fibre with copper wire and high gloss finish. Here again, there are clear references to the Antinori estate and the concept of Cor-Ten, the weathering steel used for the construction of the Antinori Winery in the Chianti Classico area, midway between Florence and Siena.

The 100% natural mohair wool mats provide the final, exclusive touch to a tailor-made customization with attention to every single detail.

AN INTERACTIVE EXPERIENCE INVOLVING WORKING TABLES OF ITALIAN PRODUCTS OF EXCELLENCE

Maserati will host in their stand - together with Ermenegildo Zegna, a longstanding partner and a leader in the field of men’s luxury clothing - two other leading artisanal firms in their field:  Giorgetti, the internationally renowned Italian woodworking company, known for its furniture and unique design pieces, and De Castelli, a leading metalworking firm, specializing in the production of unique home design accessories, custom surfaces and projects.

The stand provides an interactive tour through three different thematic areas, each of them with a dedicated working table. Each area will feature a display of materials and components that bear witness to the unending quest for excellence, style and originality, typical of products designed and Made in Italy, and therefore typical of Maserati.

Speaking of innovation and design, when it comes to customizing the stand, for the first time ever in Maserati’s  Customization Area, there will be a D-Table, the only multi-touch, interactive table featuring an elegant and sophisticated design. Latest-generation software will enable customers to configure their cars by selecting external and internal combinations, colours and materials at a touch. Customers will be offered a unique experience for the configuration of their individual Maserati, using the customization features present on the stand.

Like a fine, made-to-measure shoe, this PELLETESSUTATM (woven leather) adapts its shape to the sinuous surface of the Quattroporte Maserati dashboard (the featured element of the interior, over which the PELLETESSUTATM fits perfectly; the three-dimensionality of the woven strips of leather create a tactile surface for this component, restoring light and texture, imbuing the volume of this component with expressive force). On the table one finds two Quattroporte dashboard fascias covered with black and tan PELLETESSUTATM.

The table will also display five decorative Maserati Levante door panel trim elements, which reveal the opportunities for chromatic customization of the Maserati PELLETESSUTATM.

The PELLETESSUTATM tiles represent studies and design research between the Ermenegildo Zegna Style Centre and Maserati, exploring jacquard designs that mix colours, graphic elements and patterns with an eye to potential customizations.

The sketches depict the research carried out by the Centro Stile Maserati into textures, their visual application to the various components and efforts to balance and harmonize colours within the context of the car interior.

Giorgetti - Working Table

The Giorgetti working table is the one featuring outstanding woodworking and cabinetmaking skills. By means of three Quattroporte dashboard inserts Giorgetti illustrates the protagonist role of wood when it comes to Maserati components, highlighting how initial mechanical processes are followed by manual ones, operations like precision carving work, turning and modelling in three of the 12 Giorgetti wood species: Ash, Walnut and Maple.

Finally, the sheets of veneer complete the table as elements of stylistic research in which Giorgetti and Maserati experiment with wood species which are transformed into graphic landscapes in the case of the Ziricote wood, or dynamic textural effects in the case of the Tanganika Frise.

De Castelli - Working Table

The working table illustrates the dynamic encounter between the Italian virtuosity of De Castelli, when it comes to creative metal surfacing, and Maserati’s eagerness to embrace and interpret this poetry in metal. The sophistication of the metal working processes applied to its interior components (the dashboard fascia and the pedal trims) serves to further enhance the interior, not only formally but also by introducing a sense of poetry and textural allure. A storytelling inspired by the chromatic richness of the Italian sea- and landscape.

The four sheets of metal demonstrate the process of working the semi-finished material. The sheet of raw material in its pure form is subjected to a manual hammering phase, fashioning it into the shape of the Quattroporte Maserati dashboard.

On the artisan’s working table and creative space, the process of storytelling proceeds with the help of tools or historical instruments, where metal sheet is shaped into a work of art.

Subjected to various surface treatments, the sheets of metal convey the excellence of the De Castelli world, not to mention Maserati’s flair for style.

The working table also displays a Quattroporte dashboard fascia with the DeMarea Iron, DeMarea Copper and DeMarea Brass finish. The DeMarea trilogy illustrates a single process composed of superimposed, polysemous manual oxidation operations. These are all inspired by Italian sea- and landscapes, creating “watercolour” effects, conveying highly textural sensations and evocations of waves lapping against Venice’s signature mooring posts.

The encounter between De Castelli and Maserati also expresses itself in the pedals. These key elements for operating a car have been embellished with a hand-applied oxidation treatment, boasting a snazzier, more sophisticated flair in the DeMarea Copper kit, combined with the luxurious pad in vegetal-tanned Saddle Extra leather, which is inspired by the soles of made-to-measure shoes. While a more “art workshop” flair distinguishes the DeMarea Iron kit, brandishing logos engraved with the Maserati name.

The sketches depict the research for texture inspiration carried out by the Centro Stile Maserati. Their visual application to the various components balance and harmonize colours within the context of the car interior.

Maserati S.p.A.

Maserati produces a complete range of unique cars with an amazing personality, immediately recognisable anywhere. With their style, technology and innately exclusive character, they delight the most discerning, demanding tastes and have always been an automotive industry benchmark.

Modena, 28 February 2019 – Maserati is highlighting in the first and most important exhibition of the year in Europe

the Levante Trofeo SUV in the Launch Edition, a limited edition of 100 units, which will be the protagonist of the stand, along with the other models of the MY19 range. Another premiere of the Geneva Show are two new interiors in PELLETESSUTA™, an exclusive new material made by Ermenegildo Zegna exclusively for Maserati. To recall the Brand’s sporty DNA, Maserati will exhibit a GranTurismo MC (acronym for Maserati Corse), for the first time with an exterior in Grigio Lava Matte colour combined with interiors in carbon fibre. Maserati announced start of sales in Europe of the Levante Trofeo and Levante GTS.

Another new development will be revealed at the opening of the show, one that exemplifies Maserati’s ability to construct customized automobiles: an exciting one-off model, created according to  the requests of a particular customer.

LEVANTE TROFEO LAUNCH EDITION - A LIMITED EDITION

To launch the new model in the market, Maserati is presenting the Levante Trofeo Launch Edition, a limited edition of 100 units. The Levante Trofeo Launch Edition will be available not only in the Blu Emozione Matte colour presented at the Geneva International Motor Show but also in the unique paints Giallo Modenese and Rosso Magma. The interior features sports seats with a premium full-grain "Pieno Fiore” natural leather, with contrasting stitching and a "Trofeo" logo embroidered on the headrest, available in blue, red or yellow. The exclusive carbon fibre inserts on the bumpers, side skirts and specially designed bonnet stand out.

The 22" Orione rims can be matte or glossy black finish, while the brake calipers are available in silver, blue, yellow or red.

The Levante Trofeo is equipped with one of the most powerful engines ever fitted in a Maserati road car. This is the 3.8 litre Twin Turbo V8, calibrated to mate perfectly with the Q4 Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system, providing it with a new crankcase design, specific crankshaft assembly, new oil pump and auxiliary belt and a different wiring layout.

Like all Maserati petrol engines, this V8 is assembled by Ferrari in Maranello. In terms of 0-100km/h acceleration, it stops the chronometer at 4.1”, while the maximum speed is close to the 300 km/h threshold.

The Levante Trofeo is fitted with the eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox used on all the Levante versions, acclaimed for its versatility and sporty character.

The “Corsa" driving mode with Launch Control functionality (in addition to the existing Normal, I.C.E., Sport and Off Road modes) has been adopted to enhance the sporty character of the ultimate Maserati SUV. “Corsa” driving mode further improves engine response and opens exhaust valves in acceleration, as well as providing faster gear shifting, lower air suspension height levels, sportier Skyhook damping and optimized Q4 Intelligent All-Wheel Drive settings. It also interacts with the Traction Control and ESP systems to maximize driving pleasure.

The Levante features the Integrated Vehicle Control (IVC) system for impressive driving dynamics, better performance, and a genuine Maserati driving experience, by helping to prevent vehicle instability, instead of correcting “driver mistakes” as a traditional Electronic Stability Program (ESP) system does.

The ideal 50:50 weight balance and the low centre of gravity - common to all Levante models, in combination with the finely tuned double-wishbone front / Multi Link rear suspension, as well as the wider 22-inch rear tyres on forged aluminium alloy wheels, provide the new Trofeo with perfectly balanced handling and lateral stability.

The unmistakable Levante design has reached new levels of sportiness in this model like the lower splitter, the side blades in the front air intakes, the side skirt inserts and the rear extractor, made of ultralight high-gloss carbon fibre.

At the front, the Levante Trofeo has Full Matrix LED adaptive headlights, a front grille with double vertical bars in Black Piano finish, lower honeycomb mesh fascia, body colour door handles and high-performance brake calipers available in red, blue, black, silver or yellow. And to cap it off, the “Saetta” Trofeo logo adorns the iconic C-pillar of the coupé styled Levante.

Inside the Levante Trofeo cabin is a wealth of elegant features which create an environment of pure luxury. “Pieno Fiore” is like no other leather used in the automotive industry for its natural, soft feel and for the unique character it develops throughout the years.

This amazing Levante's quintessentially sporty personality is highlighted by new details in "3D Touch" matt carbon fibre, the specific instrument cluster graphics, floor mats with metal Trofeo badges, and a Maserati clock with a unique dial. The on-board set up is completed by a 1,280-watt, 17-speaker Bowers & Wilkins premium surround sound audio system for a concert hall sound experience.

The Levante Trofeo is the first ever Maserati equipped with 22-inch forged aluminium wheels, so Maserati cooperated with Continental to provide the new SportContact™ 6 tyre as standard equipment. The new ultra-sport tyre has substantially contributed to achieving the excellent and balanced handling and outstanding cornering performance of the most powerful Maserati in production today.

PERSONALIZATION

The special things about the Maserati stand at this 89th edition of the Geneva International Motor Show is the way it focuses on highlighting a distinctive Italianness and the process of craftsmanship and customization, considerations that have prompted Maserati to host on their stand - together with Ermenegildo Zegna, a longstanding partner and a leader in the field of men’s luxury clothing, two other leading artisanal firms in their field:  Giorgetti, the internationally renowned Italian woodworking company, known for its furniture and unique design pieces, and De Castelli, a leading metalworking firm, specializing in the production of unique home design accessories, custom surfaces and projects.

At Maserati tradition becomes innovation, combining fine craftsmanship, advanced technology and sophisticated design for the sort of exclusive, unique mix only Maserati knows how to apply to its cars.

The stand provides an instructive tour through three different dedicated thematic areas. Each area will feature a display of tools, materials and components that, specially crafted by Zegna, De Castelli and Giorgetti, bear witness to the unending quest for excellence, style and originality, typical of products designed and Made in Italy, and therefore typical of Maserati.

Speaking of innovation and design, when it comes to customizing the stand, for the first time ever Maserati is taking advantage in the Customization Area of a D-Table, the only interactive table which combines the latest-generation software and elegant, sophisticated design.

ERMENEGILDO ZEGNA

Zegna is a longstanding partner of Maserati and for the Geneva show will be presenting the world premiere of its new car interiors in PELLETESSUTA™, a special woven nappa leather, the product of pioneering research by Ermenegildo Zegna, seeking to create a luxurious, innovative, lightweight and soft fabric that is versatile and well suited for the creation of products, ranging from home design complements to multimedia accessories.

The bond between Zegna and Maserati grows stronger with each passing year, in no small part due to the historical similarities of the two brands.

The Ermenegildo Zegna Group is one of the most distinguished businesses in all of Italy. Founded back in 1910 in Trivero, in the Biellese Alps, by a young entrepreneur named Ermenegildo, whose vision was to ethically produce the most sumptuous fabrics in the world by means of innovation and the utilization of the best luxury fibres, sourced directly in their countries of origin, the company is currently guided by the fourth generation of the Zegna family. The Group, which since the late 80’s has been implementing a strategy of vertical integration, has created a global luxury brand which currently offers fabrics, clothing and accessories. Today there are 504 single-label stores in over 100 countries, of which 272 are company-owned.

GIORGETTI

The Giorgetti cabinet-making tradition started in Brianza in 1898, and more than 120 years later is still continuing to evolve and innovate. The company looks to the future, how to convey and stay on top of all the changes in a dynamically transforming world. Giorgetti’s approach to interior design involves interpreting behaviours and tastes in various different markets, creating pieces that are free of all formal conventions, capable of coexisting harmoniously in any context, dissolving cultural and temporal distances.

The products made by Giorgetti epitomize the best in the proud catchline, “Made and Manufactured in Italy”. Starting from design, creativity and style, and all the way to the actual manufacture of a finished product, the entire manufacturing process is completely carried out in Italy by highly qualified personnel, boasting consummate skill in the furniture sector.

The craft-based means of production associated with the phrase, Made in Italy, transcends the rationale of standardized, mass-produced products, guaranteeing high levels of product customization.

The indispensable work of master craftsmen is capable of imbuing Giorgetti projects with that magical allure of unique, handmade pieces.

DE CASTELLI

True to its commitment to restore metal’s privileged role in projectual experimentation, De Castelli is grafting a craft-based concept and approach to work onto typically industrial processes, a bold synthesis that leads to unprecedented results. The encounter with design engenders an approach to the material founded on respect for its vast potential, including the less obvious possibilities, the ones that gradually emerge in a collection of mass-produced products that are, at the same time, unique. Not only because the hand creating them is unique, but due to the uniqueness of the cultural process that puts the main emphasis on the aesthetic value - rather than purely functional ones - of the primal material with which De Castelli shapes living spaces. One thus overturns the dictum that confines the coldness of metal to the outer margins of interior design project, bringing steel, brass and copper, in their multiple variations and finishes, to the centre of a a completely renovated scenario where they can finally glow in self-generated radiance.

Delabré is the name of an artisanal finish conceived of and realized by De Castelli. It consists in the manual oxidation of materials like steel, copper and brass, capable of imbuing them with unique, unrepeatable chromatic effects.

THE OTHER MODELS IN THE Maserati RANGE: Grantusimo MC, Quattroporte and Ghibli

Visitors to the Geneva International Motor Show will find on display the GranTurismo MC (acronym for Maserati Corse) which perfectly represents the sporty DNA of the Modena company. The GranTurismo MC boasts an exclusive new configuration, for the first time ever with the Grigio Lava Matte as the exterior colour and “Nerissimo Carbon Pack” trim with the Black Chrome contrasting finishes for the various details: the upper portion of the grille with black vertical slats and the Trident in the middle, the profiles of the boot, the lettering on the tailgate, the logo on the pillars and the side air intakes. Also featuring an exclusive black finish are the door handles, the exhaust outlets and the window frames. Carbon fibre customization packs will be available for the interiors.

The stand also features various different Maserati models, including a Levante S Q4 GranSport in an exclusive trim with the exterior in a Bronze colour, which boasts interiors in Zegna PELLETESSUTA™. The car sports 21” polished Helios rims. For the first time in the history of this longstanding partnership with Zegna, the customization has been extended to also include the GranSport trims of the Maserati range. An especially sophisticated combination for this Levante, the first SUV in the more than one-hundred year history of Maserati.

On display, the Maserati Quattroporte S Q4 GranLusso with its Blu Sofisticato coloured body combined with interiors in PELLETESSUTA™ Zegna, an extremely elegant configuration to once again underscore the exclusive, luxurious character of this Italian manufacturer flagship, whose origins date back to Series I designed in 1963 to be the fastest sedan in the world. The 21” Atlante alloy rims with blue brake calipers and the sport seats underscore the dual nature of this model.

Two Maserati Ghibli S Q4 (GranSport and GranLusso trims), 430 hp, can be viewed on the stand. The GranSport trim is equipped with metallic Grigio Maratea paint on the outside and Nerissimo pack with a red interior in full-grain “Pieno Fiore” leather and black stitching, plus roof lining in black Alcantara. The rims are 21” in Glossy Black Titanium, which imbue the Maserati sedan, boasting Q4 Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system, with a unique, unmistakable character. The elegance of the GranLusso trim is highlighted by the tri-coat exterior Bianco Alpi paint and by the 20” Teseo rims; on the inside the full-grain “Pieno Fiore” black leather has been combined with Oak trim and roof lining in grey Alcantara.

The entire MY19 range, composed of Ghibli, Quattroporte and Levante models, has benefited from a luxurious restyling which combined targeted interventions in terms of both style and new contents.

Both the sedans and the SUV with MY19 specifications are equipped with a redesigned shorter-travel gearshift lever featuring a more intuitive shift pattern and improved operation.

The Maserati Levante Trofeo for the European market is capable of delivering 580 hp at 6,250 rpm, achieving extremely high peak rotation, maintaining the same torque of 730 Nm, usable in a wide range between 2,500 and 5,000 rpm. The Levante Trofeo therefore displays the characteristic of immediately providing high levels of torque even at low revs, a feature that is appreciated by the customers of this type of SUV. Thanks to new turbochargers with increased flow, a redesigned cylinder head with specific camshafts and valves, new pistons and new connecting rods, the Levante Trofeo is able to achieve impressive power peaks, in combination with specific engine calibration mapping.

The new Levante Trofeo features Full Matrix LED adaptive headlights as standard. Compared to Bi-Xenon headlamps, LED technology offers 20% better visibility, 32% cooler light and headlights that last twice as long.

The full LED headlights utilize a digital camera mounted behind the rear-view mirror that supports the Glare-free High Beam detection system, allowing the driver to keep the high beam on without dazzling oncoming drivers. The system is able to create a “zone of shade” around other vehicles switching dynamically on and off the LED matrixes. The full Matrix LED headlights can create up to four light tunnels simultaneously with each tunnel as large as the obstacle.

The Brembo braking system deals superbly with the high performance of the Levante Trofeo. The front brakes have adopted 6-piston aluminium monobloc calipers working on 380 mm x 34 mm drilled discs, while 4-piston aluminium monobloc calipers with 330 mm x 28 mm ventilated drilled discs are fitted at the rear. The ABS has undergone a specific setup for the Trofeo version.

Levante, Ghibli and Quattroporte share the same MTC+ infotainment system, which is based on a high resolution 8.4” multi-touch screen and a double rotary knob on the centre console.

For MY19 there is a choice of nine body colours for the Quattroporte and 10 for each of the Ghibli and Levante models. A new tri-coat colour is now available, born to enhance the design of each: the elegant Blu Nobile.

In the wide collection of alloy wheels designed specifically for every single Maserati model, there are five brand new designs in the MY19 catalogue in 20 and 21-inch sizes, two for each of the Levante and Quattroporte models and one for the Ghibli.

30 - North American Auto Show Premiere for Maserati Levante GTS and the full 19MY product lineup at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show

  • The newest V8 edition to the Maserati of SUVs starts at $119,980 MSRP
  • 550 hp 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine assembled in Maranello, Italy by Ferrari
  • Standard Q4 Intelligent All-Wheel-Drive system
  • 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds with a top speed of 181 mph

Maserati has chosen the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show in the United States for the North American auto show debut of the all-new 550-horsepower Levante GTS. This quintessential V8 Maserati of SUVs is the sibling version to the top-of-the-line 590-horsepower Levante Trofeo, which made its world premiere earlier this year at the New York International Auto Show.

With the arrival of the GTS, Maserati now offers the Levante in four distinct versions for North America, two featuring the Ferrari-assembled 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine and two featuring the new 3.8-liter Ferrari-assembled twin-turbocharged V8, two of the most powerful and exclusive SUVs ever built.

The Levante GTS’ 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8, one of the most powerful engines ever offered in a Maserati, is a re-tuned version of the unit fitted in the high-performance Levante Trofeo, delivering 550 horsepower at 6,250 rpm and peak torque of no less than 538 lb.-ft. in a wide range between 2,500 and 5,000 rpm. Like all Levante SUVs, it is mated to Maserati’s Q4 Intelligent All-Wheel-Drive System.

Subtle upgrades and new content for both Maserati sedans and the Levante.

All Ghibli, Quattroporte and Levante models have adopted the redesigned gearshift lever introduced in the Levante Trofeo, featuring a more intuitive shift pattern, shorter travel and improved operation. The driver now has the option to use the eight-speed ZF gearbox in automatic or manual mode simply by shifting the lever from right to left, while a new ‘P’ button effortlessly sets the transmission in park.

The MTC+ infotainment system on all three models has been enhanced with updated display graphics and improved climate control system ergonomics. In their sumptuous interiors, Maserati introduces for the first time the full-grain Pieno Fiore leather, which is incomparable to any other material in the automotive industry for its natural, soft feel and the unique character it develops throughout the years.

Pieno Fiore leather is standard in the Levante Trofeo and available as an option on all Levante, Ghibli and Quattroporte GranSport and GranLusso models – as well as Levante GTS – in three colors (Red, Black & Tan) with specific stitching on the seats and double stitching on the door panels. Maserati also offers two brand new high-gloss interior veneers for the Ghibli and Quattroporte and three for the Levante.

Exterior color options have also been refreshed for 19MY: There is a choice of ten colors for the Quattroporte and eleven for both the Ghibli and Levante models. A new tri-coat color is also available in the deep dark Blu Nobile.

The Maserati Design Centre has also updated the front grille and side skirts on the Quattroporte GTS GranSport.

In the wide collection of alloy wheels designed specifically for every single Maserati model, there are five brand new designs available for 19MY in both 20 and 21-inch sizes, two for each of the Levante and Quattroporte models and one for the Ghibli. The 22-inch Orione forged aluminum wheel – the largest ever created by Maserati – is exclusively available for the new Levante GTS and standard on the Trofeo.

31 - Maserati Levante GTS named "SUV of Texas" and best "Full-Size Luxury SUV" by the Texas Auto Writers Association

Modena, October 19, 2018 -  At the annual Texas Truck Rodeo, hosted by the Texas Automotive Writers Association (TAWA), the Maserati Levante GTS was named “SUV of Texas” and best “Full-Size Luxury SUV.”
This year’s Rodeo was especially challenging with muddy conditions and wet roads – an environment where the “Maserati of SUVs” particularly excelled. A total of 57 pickups, SUVs, crossovers and commercial vehicles were entered in the competition and 69 TAWA members attended the event.

Members cast their votes after two days of on- and off-road vehicle evaluations. Consideration is given to everything from exterior/interior styling and off-road capability to the entrant’s overall utility, value and performance.

The Levante GTS is the latest in Maserati innovation: a powerful twin-turbo V8 on a finely tuned chassis combined with an elegantly restyled exterior and an exclusive interior, deliver the quintessential SUV in terms of outright performance, road handling and sporty pedigree.

The Levante GTS is equipped with one of the most powerful engines ever fitted in a Maserati.

The 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine is a re-engineered, upgraded version of the power unit fitted in the flagship Quattroporte GTS, delivering 550hp at 6,250 rpm and 538 lb.-ft. of peak torque at 2,500 – 5,000 rpm. Like any other petrol Maserati engine, this V8 has been developed by Maserati Powertrain in cooperation with Ferrari and is manufactured in its state-of-the art factory of Maranello. The Levante GTS surges from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.0 seconds and has a top speed of 181 mph.

The adoption of the V8 engine has resulted in a curb weight increase by only 132 lbs. when compared to the V6 versions. Given the dramatic power increase – by no less than 120hp compared to the Levante S – the GTS boasts an impressive power ratio.

The chassis of the Levante GTS has been meticulously tuned to handle the higher power output, providing an exhilarating driving experience with no compromise in terms of long distance comfort and active safety.

The Q4 Intelligent All-Wheel-Drive has been designed to deliver a typical Maserati rear-wheel drive experience and has been updated to suit the requirements of the Levante GTS. In normal driving conditions, the Q4 distributes 100 percent of the engine’s torque to the rear wheels. On slippery or loose road surfaces, or in the event of loss of traction at the rear, the system can alter the front/rear torque split from 0:100 percent to 50:50 percent in a matter of 150 milliseconds.

The unmistakable Levante design has reached new levels of sportiness in the GTS version. Thanks to an elegant restyling focused on the lower front fascia and the rear bumper, the Levante GTS boasts a sportier and even more sophisticated presence.

Interior designers have come up with elegant ways to create a distinctive environment within the Levante GTS cabin providing it with standard Full Premium Leather upholstery, sport pedals and Harman Kardon Audio system with 14 speakers. The human-machine interface has been further improved featuring updated display graphics and improved climate system ergonomics.

The Maserati Levante GTS is built at the refurbished Maserati plant in Mirafiori, Turin (Italy).

32 - Maserati introduces the all-new V8 Levante GTS and the full 19MY product lineup at Goodwood Festival of Speed in UK

Modena, July 12th, 2018 – Maserati has chosen the 25th Goodwood Festival of Speed in the United Kingdom for the world premiere of the all-new 550-horsepower Levante GTS. This quintessential V8 Maserati of SUVs is the sibling version to the top-of-the-line 590-horsepower Levante Trofeo, which makes its European debut today at the most prestigious car culture event in the world.

With the arrival of the GTS, Maserati now offers the Levante in four distinct versions for North America, two featuring the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine and two featuring the new Ferrari-assembled 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8, two of the most powerful and exclusive SUVs ever built.

The Levante GTS’ 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8, one of the most powerful engines ever in a Maserati, is a retuned version of the unit fitted in the super-sport Levante Trofeo, delivering 550 horsepower at 6,250 rpm and peak torque of no less than 538 lb.-ft. in a wide range between 2,500 and 5,000 rpm. Like all Levante’s, it is mated to Maserati’s Q4 Intelligent All-Wheel-Drive System and as with all Maserati gas engines, is assembled by Ferrari in Maranello, Italy.

The new Levante GTS is also equipped with the eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox used on all Levante SUVs, a unit acclaimed for its performance and smoothness. As shown on the Trofeo, all Levante models for 2019 model year feature a redesigned gearshift lever with a more intuitive shift pattern, shorter travel and improved operation. The driver has the option to use it in either automatic (RND) or manual mode, simply by shifting the lever from right to left, while a new ‘P’ button effortlessly sets the transmission in parking mode.

Thanks to its remarkable weight to power ratio of 8.6 lbs/hp, the Levante GTS needs only 4.0 seconds to reach 60 mph and achieves a top speed of 181 mph. These figures fairly describe a modern supercar, but are disguised in a high-end SUV body thanks to the Levante chassis, which ensures outstanding levels of rigidity while providing a very low center of gravity. And as with all Maserati’s, an ideal 50:50 weight balance between the front and rear axle. In addition, the chassis has been tuned for the GTS to effortlessly handle the immense power output of its twin-turbocharged V8 engine and provides an exhilarating driving experience with no compromise in terms of long-distance comfort and active safety – two essential elements of the GranTurismo philosophy.

The Levante’s unmistakable design reached new levels of sportiness in the Trofeo version and the new GTS has adopted a similar styling theme, which focuses on the lower front fascia and the rear bumper, providing a sporty yet sophisticated presence. Available 21 & 22-inch wheels along with five different caliper colors cap off the bold Italian styling.

Interior designers created a distinctive environment within the Levante GTS cabin providing it with standard Full Premium Perforated Leather seats, Alcantara headliner, unique instrument cluster graphics a 14-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system and available Pieno Fiore natural leather seating for the ultimate in comfort.

Alongside the two V8 models, the Levante lineup has inherited new content, such as the Adaptive Full LED Matrix headlights as an option and standard Integrated Vehicle Control (IVC), which is already available on the Ghibli and Quattroporte sedans. Rather than simply correcting vehicle instability, the IVC function helps prevent it, providing enhanced active safety, improved driving dynamics and an even more exciting performance.

Subtle upgrades and new content for both Maserati sedans and the Levante.

All Ghibli, Quattroporte and Levante versions have adopted the redesigned gearshift lever previously introduced in the Levante Trofeo, featuring a more intuitive shift pattern, shorter travel and improved operation. The driver now has the option to use the eight-speed ZF gearbox in automatic or manual mode simply by shifting the lever from right to left, while a new ‘P’ button effortlessly sets the transmission in parking mode.

The MTC+ infotainment system on all three models has been enhanced with updated display graphics and improved climate control system ergonomics. In their sumptuous interiors, Maserati introduces for the first time the full-grain Pieno Fiore leather, which is incomparable to any other material in the automotive industry for its natural, soft feel and the unique character it attains throughout the years.

Pieno Fiore is standard in the Levante Trofeo and available as an option on all Levante, Ghibli and Quattroporte GranSport and GranLusso models – as well as Levante GTS – in three colors with specific stitching on the seats and double stitching on the door panels. Maserati also offers two brand new high-gloss interior veneers for the Ghibli and Quattroporte and three for the Levante.

Exterior color options have also been refreshed for MY19: There is a choice of ten colors for the Quattroporte and eleven for each of the Ghibli and Levante models. Two new tri-coat colors are now available, born to enhance the design of each, the iconic Rosso Potente and the deep dark Blu Nobile. The Maserati Design Centre has also created a specific front grille and side skirts exclusively for the Quattroporte GTS GranSport.

In the wide collection of alloy wheels designed specifically for every single Maserati model, there are five brand new designs in the MY19 catalog in 20 and 21-inch sizes, two for each of the Levante and Quattroporte models and one for the Ghibli. The 22-inch Orione forged aluminum wheel – the largest ever created by Maserati – is exclusively available for the new top-of-the-line Levante GTS and Trofeo.

As for the recently introduced Nerissimo package, it has been updated for MY19. It is now available in a wider range of new model-specific colors, combining black elements with dark LED headlights, tail lights and exhaust tips, black chrome detail finishing and new wheels with dark finish.

  • New Levante Trofeo launch edition shown at NYIAS, a limited series intended for select enthusiasts in the U.S. and Canada
  • 3.8-litre Twin Turbo V8 engine mated to the Q4 Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system delivers 590 hp and 730 Nm peak torque

  • Full Matrix LED headlights, a specific “Corsa” Driving Mode with Launch Control and the Maserati Integrated Vehicle Control (IVC) system for improved driving dynamics

Modena, 27 March 2018 – Maserati reveals the first Levante built around a V8 engine at the New York International Auto Show. It is the Levante Trofeo, the ultimate Maserati of SUVs, capable of accelerating in style from 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and reaching a top speed of over 300 km/h.

The Levante Trofeo is equipped with one of the most powerful engines ever fitted in a Maserati. A 3.8-litre Twin Turbo V8 engine that has been engineered to perfectly mate with the Q4 Intelligent All-Wheel Drive System and delivers an astounding 590 hp at 6,250 rpm and 730 Nm of peak torque at 2,250 – 5,000 rpm.

The engine boasts the highest output per litre (156 hp/litre) of any Maserati powerplant ever produced and, like all Maserati gasoline engines, is assembled by Ferrari in Maranello, Italy.

The chassis of the fastest Levante ever has been tuned to handle the higher power output and provides an exhilarating driving experience with no compromise in terms of comfort. This tuning ensures the Levante Trofeo continues to embody the essence of the Maserati GranTurismo philosophy with supercar performance.

“It’s proof that when you play with the elements you end up in a storm”, says Maserati CEO Tim Kuniskis. “In the case of Trofeo, the engineers and designers in Modena knew that the driveline parameters were more than able to cope with additional power and they also knew that Maserati had access to the finest engines on earth. So, they were up to the challenge of making the finest luxury SUV also one of the fastest”.

The unmistakable Levante design has reached new levels of sportiness in this top of the line Trofeo. The elegant restyling was mainly focused on the lower front fascia and the rear bumper and is underlined by the 22-inch forged aluminium “Orione” wheels – the largest ever fitted on a Maserati – available in both polished and matte finishes.

The side air intakes in the lower fascia feature a new, more aggressive design, defined by two aerodynamic wings that give a sense of further stability, visually “pushing” the weight of the car’s nose towards the massive front wheels. And to help improve the airflow distribution, Trofeo is outfitted with carbon fibre side bezel blades and a carbon fibre splitter.

The rear end also looks wider and more muscular with a sharper carbon fibre horizontal element and body-color lower extractor that embrace the oval quad exhaust tips.

In front, the Levante Trofeo has Full Matrix LED headlights, a front grille with double vertical bars in a piano black finish and lower honeycomb mesh fascia, as well as body color door handles, oval exhaust tips in a dark finish and performance painted brake calipers in red, blue, black, silver or yellow. And to cap it off, specific “Saetta” Trofeo logos adorn the iconic c-pillars of the coupé styled SUV.

Specific details, like the lower splitter, the blade side bezels in the front air intakes, the side skirt inserts and the rear extractor are made of ultralight, high-gloss carbon fibre, giving the Levante Trofeo a polished racing look. Even the hood is new, featuring two aggressive vent for better cylinder head cooling. And under the hood, the engine cover is also made of high-gloss carbon fibre featuring a V8 inscription and the iconic Trident logo, while cylinder heads and intake manifolds are painted red.

Interior designers have come up with elegant ways to create a distinctive environment within the Levante Trofeo cabin. The sculpted sport seats feature a premium full-grain “Pieno Fiore” natural leather available in black, red and tan, all with contrast stitching and “Trofeo” logo stitched on the headrests. “Pieno Fiore” is like no other leather used in the automotive industry for its natural, soft feel and for the unique character it develops throughout the years.

A new matte carbon fibre trim and paddle shifters, specific instrument cluster graphics, floor mats with metal Trofeo badges and a Maserati clock with a unique dial elegantly underline the exclusive sporty character of this extraordinary Levante, which is outfitted with a standard 1,280-watt, 17-speaker Bowers & Wilkins premium surround sound audio system for exceptional listening enjoyment.

The production of the Levante Trofeo starts this summer at the refurbished Maserati plant in Mirafiori (Turin), Italy. The fastest Levante in Maserati history is initially intended for overseas export markets, including the U.S. and Canada.

Power under control
Maserati engineers developed the mighty 3.8-litre Twin Turbo V8 engine to accommodate the Q4 Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system, providing it with a new crankcase design, specific crankshaft assembly, new oil pump and auxiliary belt and a different wiring layout.

New turbochargers feature increased flow, while redesigned cylinder heads with specific camshafts and valves, different pistons and new connecting rods allow the ability to reach the maximum power targets in combination with specific engine calibration mapping.

The Levante Trofeo is definitely one of the fastest SUVs ever built with a top speed of over 300 km/h. Thanks to its remarkable weight/power ratio of 3.6 kg/hp the Trofeo needs only 3.9 seconds to reach 100 km/h and only 34.5 metres of braking distance to get back to a complete stop.

The ideal 50:50 weight balance and the low center of gravity - common to all Levante models - in combination with the finely tuned double-wishbone front / Multi Link rear suspension and the larger tyres fitted to the 22-inch forged aluminium wheels, endow the new Trofeo with remarkably balanced handling and lateral stability.

The new “Corsa" Driving mode with Launch Control functionality in addition to the existing Normal, I.C.E., Sport and Off Road modes has been adopted to enhance the athletic character of the ultimate Maserati SUV. “Corsa” driving mode further improves engine response and opens exhaust valves in acceleration, as well as provides faster gear shifting, lower air suspension height levels, sportier Skyhook damping and optimized Q4 Intelligent All-Wheel Drive settings and interacts with Traction Control and ESP systems to maximize driving pleasure.

The Maserati Integrated Vehicle Control (IVC) system has been incorporated for the first time in a Levante, for impressive driving dynamics, better performance and a genuine Maserati driving experience, by helping to prevent vehicle instability, instead of correcting “driver mistakes” as a traditional Electronic Stability Program (ESP) system does.

Limited series Levante Trofeo launch edition
As an introduction to its upcoming new model, Maserati is showcasing a limited Levante Trofeo launch edition at the Javits Center in New York. The show car is in the special matte Grigio Lava paint with matte finished 22-inch wheels and red brake calipers. This limited series Trofeo is exclusively intended for a small number of Maserati customers in the U.S. and Canada.

The Levante Trofeo launch edition will be available in eight unique exterior colors including the following exclusive exterior features: 22-inch forged aluminium wheels with three-season performance tyres or new 21-inch wheels with all-season tyres, in a gloss finish and dark details, like black daylight openings (DLO) and fog light rings, as well as Black Chrome Maserati badges, Trofeo “Saetta” logos, side air vents and trunk accent.

The Trofeo launch edition interior is even more individual, featuring natural “Pieno Fiore” leather sport seats available in black, tan or red with contrast stitching. Black leather with blue or yellow stitching is exclusive to the launch edition and all feature the new matte carbon fibre wave interior trim. A serialized launch edition badge integrated on the center console featuring the customer’s name, has also been added to underline the unique character of the Trofeo launch edition.

36 - The record WSSRC has ratified the sailing record between Hong Kong and London established by Giovanni Soldini and the team Maserati Multi 70

Modena, 9 March 2018 - The World Sailing Speed Record Council has ratified the sailing record from Hong Kong to London established between January 18th and February 23rd 2018 by the trimaran Maserati Multi 70. The skipper Giovanni Soldini and his crew (Guido Broggi, Sébastien Audigane, Oliver Herrera Perez and Alex Pella) took 36 days, 2 hours, 37 minutes and 12 seconds to complete the 12.948 miles of the theoretical course of the Tea Route, maintaining an average speed of 14,94 knots. According to the cartography, Maserati Multi 70 sailed 15.083 miles on the ground, at an average speed of 17,4 knots.

The previous record of 41 days, 21 hours and 26 minutes had been established between August and September 2008 by Lionel Lemonchois and a crew of nine people aboard the 100-foot maxi catamaran, Gitana 13, which had crossed the finish line after 15.312 miles sailed on the ground at an average speed of 15,23 knots.

Giovanni Soldini comments: ''We are very satisfied with the result. Even if at the end of the route in the North Atlantic he played some jokes on us, Neptune was on our side, Maserati Multi 70 and the crew delivered a good performance. Our record will not be easy to beat. "

37 - Maserati chooses 88th Geneva Motor Show for European premiere of Ghibli, Quattroporte and Levante Nerissimo Edition

  • The Nerissimo Edition − available for Ghibli, Quattroporte and Levante − is a key focal point of the Maserati stand.
  • The entire 2018 range will be on display in a variety of trims.
  • The Ghibli and Quattroporte feature Integrated Vehicle Control (IVC): this prevents rather than corrects car instability, ensuring greater active safety, better driving dynamics, and more exciting performance.
  • “Officine Maserati” – the new brand dedicated to Certified Pre-Owned programme by Maserati

Modena, 5 March 2018 – Maserati unveils the Ghibli, Quattroporte and Levante in captivating “total black” at the 88th Geneva Motor Show. Black is synonymous with elegance, but also with extreme sportiness, so it perfectly captures the dual personality inherent in the Maserati DNA. From this concept, Nerissimo was born − a special edition of Maserati cars that emphasises their assertive sporting prowess and high-performance capabilities.

Designed for the Ghibli, Quattroporte and Levante − and available in GranSport trims − the Nerissimo Edition envelops each car in black. The exteriors of the three cars stand out thanks to seductive, deep black body paint. This is combined with a contrasting Black Chrome trim on the upper part of the grille frame and the Trident, the side air vents, the boot, and the iconic Maserati badging on the C-pillars and at the rear. The grille bars, door handles, exhaust tips and window trim, meanwhile, are in an exclusive black finish.

For the Ghibli and Quattroporte, a dark finish on the LED headlights and a choice of either 20” Urano or 21” Titano alloy wheels – both in glossy black – complete the picture.

The Levante offers additional features such as front and rear underbody protection and black fog light rings. It is available with a choice of 20” Nereo, 20” Efesto or 21” Anteo alloy wheels – all in dark finishes.

As for the interior, the Ghibli sports sedan is fitted out with heated front and rear Sport seats, a heated sport steering wheel and Dark Mirror interior finishing − although Black Piano and Carbon fibre trims are also available. Tinted windows and a power rear sunblind are additional features. The flagship Quattroporte executive sedan can be finished in either Black Piano or Carbon fibre trims. It is equipped with tinted windows and a rear-view camera with dynamic gridlines, and also adds the practicality of a power boot lid, the HomeLink system and Keyless Entry extended to include the rear doors. The Levante SUV features heated front and rear Sport seats, four-zone automatic climate control, power foot pedals and the Easy Entry system.

Other models on show in Geneva

The Marque of the Trident’s other models will also be present in Geneva in a variety of trims and colours. This includes a Ghibli S Q4 GranLusso Bianco Alpi with 20” Urano Diamond wheels, polished aluminium brake calipers, a luxuriously elegant Ermenegildo Zegna silk interior with red leather, 100% natural fibre Mulberry silk inserts and a high-quality Ebony trim. The Quattroporte S Q4 GranLusso is presented in Blu Passione, with 21” Titano wheels and black brake calipers. The exquisite beige leather interior with wooden inserts perfectly matches the exterior, and the two rear seats ensure maximum comfort for executive use. The sports cars are represented by the GranCabrio MC. Painted in Bianco Birdcage, the cabriolet features 20” wheels, black brake calipers, a leather and Alcantara interior, and contrasting white stitching that embellishes the passenger compartment. The carbon detail also reinforces the car’s strong racing look.

The range

The 2018 Maserati range has been thoroughly overhauled. All five models, including the GranTurismo and GranCabrio, have been significantly restyled, with new features also added.

In line with the new range strategy, the most significant updates for the Ghibli and Levante MY18 relate to the introduction of the GranLusso and GranSport trims, which initially were only available with the Quattroporte. The GranLusso is an expression of exclusive, refined luxury – made clear with the Ermenegildo Zegna silk or fine-grain stretched leather interiors – while the GranSport was designed to add an extra sporting dimension to the car.

The Ghibli is the highest-selling car in Maserati history, with over 84.200 models delivered since 2013. The MY18 has Adaptive full LED Matrix headlights with “Glare Free” technology, developed in collaboration with Magneti Marelli Automotive Lighting. The Quattroporte MY18 has also introduced Adaptive full LED headlights on all trims, with standard L-shape “Glare Free” technology that provides longer-lasting, more natural light with substantially improved visibility compared to Bi-Xenon technology.

A particular highlight from among the important technical innovations is Electric Power Steering (EPS). This facilitates the active functions of the new Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS), which include Highway Assist (HAS), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Active Blind Spot Assist (ABSA) and Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR). EPS has replaced hydraulic steering on the two Maserati sedans and on the Levante, improving the cars’ handling and comfort, while maintaining the excellent manoeuvrability typical of every Maserati.

There is no end in sight for the success of the Quattroporte, with the MY18 once again confirming its place at the apex of the flagship sedan segment.

In 2016, the launch of the Levante − the first SUV produced by Maserati in its 100-year history − represented a turning point for the Marque of the Trident as it entered the largest segment in the global luxury automotive market. In Geneva, Maserati is showcasing the Levante MY18, which has adopted EPS for an even more exciting driving experience, both on and off the road.

The “Maserati of SUVs” was designed to excite sports car enthusiasts, and it accomplishes this goal with its extensive use of lightweight materials, ideal 50:50 weight distribution and the lowest centre of gravity in the segment. The Levante boasts incomparable agility in the luxury SUV segment, as well as extraordinary comfort on rough terrain and excellent road-holding on low-grip surfaces.

Adaptive full LED headlights are another stand-out feature of Levante. An additional element characterizes this model to provide the best customization and exclusivity options. The Maserati Genuine Accessories range introduces for the very first time an exclusively designed 21-inch wheel rim Eracle. It will be available from March in matt grey colour with diamond trim that enriches the captivating design.

The GranTurismo and GranCabrio MY18 have been the subject of an elegant restyling that has improved their aerodynamics, while the upgrading of their interiors includes the introduction of a brand-new driver interface and a comprehensive infotainment system.  The new Gran Cabrio uses Pirelli P Zero tyres both in traditional guise and in the Color Edition, with sidewalls that can be customised in different colours (the base colours are red, white, silver and yellow). Like all other Pirelli-equipped Maserati models, the P Zero tyres fitted to the Gran Cabrio have been made to measure, based on the specific characteristics of the car, in order to optimise performance and safety.

At a global level, 51.500 cars were delivered in 2017. Maserati is present in 77 markets, the largest of which is China, followed by North America.

Integrated Vehicle Control (IVC)

The Ghibli and Quattroporte contain a more powerful 3.0-litre V6 engine and also make use of the new IVC system developed by Bosch in collaboration with Maserati. This important technical development prevents − rather than merely correcting − vehicle instability, ensuring greater active safety, better driving dynamics, and more exciting performance.

IVC forms part of the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) software that brings aerospace technology to the road. It uses an effective feed-forward control system that anticipates driving conditions, then adjusts the braking system and engine in advance. The system operates more regularly and smoothly than the traditional ESP, allowing the car to be better balanced and improving traction in extreme conditions. It also uses smart torque vectoring to optimise lateral dynamics naturally, even when the ESP is disabled.

“Officine Maserati” – the new brand dedicated to Certified Pre-Owned programme by Maserati

The “Officine Maserati” Certified Pre-Owned programme will be launched across the globe in 2018, guaranteeing maximum safety for anyone who buys a previously registered Maserati.

To qualify for “Officine Maserati” status, each car must pass a rigorous 121-point testing process. The programme also includes unlimited mileage and roadside assistance. The initiative involves the Maserati network more closely in its activities by allowing authorised dealers to enhance the fleet of Maserati cars available, offering a wider range of services and increasing customer loyalty.

Octo Maserati GranLusso and GranSport by Bulgari

The prestigious collaboration between Maserati and Bulgari continues with the Octo Maserati watches. The Octo Maserati GranLusso and GranSport by Bulgari are exclusive timepieces designed exclusively for Maserati owners. The spectacular watch face features a retrograde minute and jumping hour display that evokes the rev counter of a real Maserati, while the stitched leather strap is reminiscent of Maserati upholstery.

Maserati Capsule Collection by Ermenegildo Zegna

Inspired by the GranLusso trim, the signature Maserati Capsule Collection by Ermenegildo Zegna will be on display at the Maserati stand in Geneva. The sophisticated collection of micro-woven travel clothing – complete with micro-nubuck detailing − and luxury leather accessories is a concrete expression of the craftsmanship and elegance that have united the two Italian brands since they began their prestigious partnership in 2013.

38 - British Snowboard sensation Jamie Barrow breaks Guinness World Record for fastest speed on a snowboard, towed by a vehicle (Maserati Levante)

Record breaking feat took place on the frozen lake of St Moritz in Switzerland, with Barrow and the Maserati Levante SUV hitting a maximum speed of 151.57 km/h

Modena, 19 February 2018 - Britain's fastest snowboarder Jamie Barrow has broken his own Guinness World Record, clocking a new fastest speed on a snowboard while being towed by a vehicle on the frozen lakes of St Moritz.

Barrow previously broke the same record in February 2016, when he was clocked at a speed of 99.87 km/h while being towed behind a car across the same frozen lake in St Moritz.  Despite breaking the record in 2016, Barrow was always confident that an even greater speed was possible, due to the track in 2016 being slightly shorter than originally planned and the soft snow not allowing the grip needed.

This time he returned to the lake with a powerful Maserati Levante SUV, a much faster car than the one used in his last record attempt, fitted with Pirelli Scorpion Winter tires. The special studded tires have 474 studs per tire and are 4 mm long to allow the best grip possible on the frozen lake.

Maserati’s luxury SUV offers an array of high-tech features including the Q4 Intelligent All-Wheel Drive System and the recently developed EPS producing a highly capable SUV. With its variable torque control, the Q4 Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system is always active and responds immediately to any variation in the driving conditions, providing premium performance for Barrow’s Guinness World Record.

In conjunction with the Q4 Intelligent All-Wheel Drive System, EPS improves the car’s handling and comfort, better supports the driving modes, and enables the newly-introduced active ADAS functions. The advanced technology allowed the Levante to perform on the frozen lake surface, without losing the razor-sharp steering feel expected of any Maserati.

With the record attempt taking place on a frozen lake, safety and preparation were a major factor when planning the project. The track was closed, fenced off and piste-bashers groomed the snow especially for the Guinness World Record attempt.

Strict criteria had to be met for the record to meet Guinness World Record guidelines. These included completing a timed run in both directions with specialist recording equipment, set at 100m by a Guinness World Records official. With 400m needed either side so that the Maserati Levante could accelerate and slow down safely on the snow, a total run of approximately 900m was prepared.

On the morning of Monday 19th February, the very first out run was recorded at 151.57 km/h. Due to the Guinness World Record stipulations; a return run back was recorded at 147.72 km/h.  The two runs were then averaged to give the final Guinness World Record speed of 149.65 km/h.

About his newly set Guinness World Record, Jamie said, “I’m absolutely delighted to have broken my own record. I always knew there was much more speed possible with the right conditions and crucially the right car to tow me. The Maserati Levante made light work of the icy and snowy conditions, giving us the grip to really hit top speed. The adrenalin rush is always amazing when you hit those speeds – I’m just happy I was able to hold my nerve, keep the snowboard in line and ultimately smash the World Record.”

Jacob Nyborg, Head of Marketing for Maserati S.p.A. commented, ‘What a fantastic effort from Jamie to break the World Record. As soon as we spoke to him about this attempt, we knew it was something we had to be involved with. The new Maserati Levante SUV has performance at its heart, so this was the perfect way to show its off-road capabilities, while helping Jamie break a new Guinness World Record. We are excited to see what the future holds for Jamie and hope we can help him reach even greater speeds in the future – what an incredible athlete.”

The Maserati Levante was supplied by Kessel Auto, the official Maserati dealer in Lugano, with a showroom in Sankt Moritz.

42 - GIOVANNI SOLDINI AND TEAM MASERATI ATTEMPT WORLD RECORD SAIL FROM HONG KONG TO LONDON

After four days, the Maserati Multi70 Trimaran is less than 300 nautical miles from Sunda Strait with a 468-nautical-mile lead over previous record

Auburn Hills, Michigan, 22 January 2018 – Maserati’s sailing team is approaching the Sunda Strait of Indonesia in their record-breaking attempt to sail from Hong Kong to London in less than 41 days, 21 hours and 26 minutes. Legendary skipper Giovanni Soldini, who has more than 25 years of ocean racing to his credit, including two single-handed round the worlds, is continuing his relationship with sponsor Maserati through a fearless journey aboard the Maserati Multi70 trimaran retracing the 13,000-mile “Tea Route” from Hong Kong to London.

To beat the record set in 2008 by Lionel Lemonchois, the 21.20-meter trimaran Maserati Multi70 must cut the finish line under the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge on the Thames in London before March 1.

The Maserati Multi70 is now located between the islands of Borneo and Sumatra, with the Sunda Strait, gateway to the Indian Ocean, now less than 300 miles away. They are ahead of schedule with a 468-nautical-mile lead over the previous record.

Giovanni Soldini and Maserati Multi70's crew – Guido Broggi, Oliver Herrera Perez, Alex Pella and Sébastien Audigane – crossed the Equator late last night at 10:13 p.m. ET. After almost four days of navigation, today at 2:04 a.m. ET, the cartography indicates they travelled the first 1,408 miles of the theoretical route at an average speed of 16.2 knots. On the ground, they really sailed 1,635 nm at an average speed of 18.9 knots, gaining a 468 nm lead over the reference time set by Lionel Lemonchois, Gitana 13's skipper.

“The spirit is high on board. We are all concentrated and motivated,” says Giovanni Soldini, skipper of Maserati Multi70. “Compared to the routing simulations we made at the start, we gained about fifteen hours. We passed the worst area of the light winds bubble yesterday. Then, in order to stay in the pressure, we had to keep on jibing towards the Sunda Strait where we should arrive in about 15 hours (around 5:00 p.m. ET on January 22).”

“Then, after the Strait, we will have to see how we will manage to catch the South East trade winds in the Indian Ocean,” explains Soldini. “We know the route is still very long but it would be an ideal situation to get there with a lead on the record, because we also know that Lionel Lemonchois pushed hard on the first four days across the Indian Ocean.”

Alex Pella explains: “Navigation on board Maserati Multi70 is going on in this incredible sea of China. It is a real slalom between islands, reefs, atolls, merchant ships and fishing vessels not always well marked. It's fun from the point of view of pure navigation but it's not always easy. We have still two difficult passages to do before entering the Indian Ocean. We crossed the equator last night and we are going on with super conditions, stable wind from the north, flat sea and summer heat.”
