1 - Maserati reveals new Ghibli and presents Levante, Quattroporte, GranTurismo and GranTurismo Convertible MY18 at Frankfurt Motor Show

  • Maserati presents its most complete line-up ever in Frankfurt, introducing the restyled new Ghibli and the Levante MY18 in new GranLusso and GranSport trims.
  • New Ghibli, Levante and Quattroporte MY18 ultimately refined with significant high-tech contents.
  • GranTurismo and GranTurismo Convertible MY18 with exterior restyling and interior upgrades.

Modena, 12 September 2017 – Maserati presents its most complete and ultimately upgraded product portfolio at IAA Cars 2017 in Frankfurt. Starting from the new Ghibli, which has adopted a new range strategy and features a significant exterior restyling, all Maserati models have been thoroughly upgraded, adopting additional high-tech contents.

The new Ghibli as well as the Levante MY18 are now available in GranLusso and GranSport trims, previously introduced in the Quattroporte range. Ghibli and Quattroporte now feature Adaptive full LED headlights with glare free high-beam, based on Matrix technology for Ghibli, developed in collaboration with Magneti Marelli Automotive Lighting, and on L-shape technology for Quattroporte. Both Maserati sedans are fitted with power-upgraded 3.0L V6 engines with the new, performance-enhancing Integrated Vehicle Control system (IVC), developed by Bosch in collaboration with Maserati.

For the first time Maserati introduces Electric Power Steering (EPS), enabling new Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS) with active functions. EPS has replaced hydraulic power steering on both Maserati sedans, as well as on the Levante MY18, providing better handling and comfort, while retaining the razor-sharp steering feel that is typical to every Maserati.

The iconic GranTurismo and GranTurismo Convertible MY18 have been elegantly restyled for improved aerodynamic performance, while featuring an upgraded interior with brand new driver interface and state-of-the art infotainment system.

Two souls of Ghibli
The new Ghibli sports sedan – the best-selling vehicle in the history of Maserati with over 70,000 cars delivered in 70 countries since 2013 – makes its European Premiere at IAA Cars 2017 featuring a significant exterior restyling and a rich array of hi-tech contents. Two new distinctive trims, GranLusso and GranSport, have been included in the model range, following a strategy inaugurated by the Quattroporte in 2016. Each trim uses its own voice to bring out the elegance and sporty performance unique to Maserati.

The Ghibli GranLusso is distinguished by enhanced exterior finish and a luxurious interior with Ermenegildo Zegna silk upholstery. The Ghibli GranSport was conceived to reflect Maserati’s racing heritage displaying sportier exterior design and interior contents. The Ghibli GranLusso and GranSport are available for all powertrain versions and feature Adaptive full LED headlights with glare free Matrix high-beam, a first for Maserati.

The Maserati Design Centre in Turin has given a clear identity to each of the newly-introduced trims,

primarily by restyling the front and rear bumpers. These aerodynamically-optimized changes accentuate the original’s sporty yet luxurious style. The aerodynamic efficiency of the new Ghibli has improved by 7%, reducing the drag coefficient to 0.29 from 0.31.

The top-range Ghibli S and S Q4 versions now deliver 424 hp and 428 ft-lb of peak torque, 20 hp and 22 ft-lb of peak torque more than the previous model year. The increased power output gives the Maserati sedan a top speed of 178 mph and even better acceleration. The new Ghibli S accelerates from 0-62 mph in just 4.9 seconds, while the Ghibli

S Q4, with the Q4 Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system, needs only 4.7 seconds (MY17 respectively in 5.0 and 4.8 seconds).

The new Ghibli has adopted the Integrated Vehicle Control system (IVC), which helps to prevent vehicle instability, providing enhanced active safety, improved driving dynamics and an even more thrilling performance.

The introduction of the Electric Power Steering (EPS) is another first for Maserati. This improves the car’s handling and comfort, better supports the driving modes and enables the newly-introduced active functions of the Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS), while retaining the classically Maserati razor-sharp steering feel.

The new Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS) are available as an option in the Ghibli. In addition to the existing features, they now include active functions like Highway Assist (HA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Active Blind Spot Assist (ABSA) and Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR, based on Mobileye technology).

Faithful to its DNA, the new Ghibli range offers unmistakable class, top-quality performance and a stylish yet comfortable driving experience.

The Maserati of SUVs
In 2016, the launch of the Levante, the first ever SUV in the over 100-year history of Maserati, was a turning point for the Trident, introducing it into the world’s largest luxury segment. At IAA Cars 2017, Maserati presents the Levante MY18 that has adopted a new range strategy with two distinct new trims: the luxury-orientated GranLusso and the red-blooded GranSport.

The Maserati of SUVs was engineered to excite the sport-focused drivers by making extensive use of lightweight materials, as well as boasting an ideal 50:50 weight distribution and the segment’s lowest centre of gravity. These features delivered unparalleled agility in the high-end SUV class as well as remarkable comfort on rough roads and great handling on low-grip surfaces.

The Levante MY18 has also adopted Electric Power Steering (EPS) that provides an even more thrilling driving experience – both on- and off-road. EPS enables an enhanced Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS) package, which includes new active functions such as Highway Assist (HA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Active Blind Spot Assist (ABSA) and Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR).

Ultimately refined Quattroporte
The Quattroporte MY18 makes its debut in Frankfurt with significant upgrades and new high-tech contents, aiming to carry on its success story for the years to come. The headlights have adopted Adaptive full LED technology that provides remarkably better visibility, cooler light, glare-free high beam functionality and double extended lamp life.

The Quattroporte MY18 retains its top status in the high-end saloon segment featuring power-upgraded 3.0L V6 engines, the new Integrated Vehicle Control system (IVC) and Electric Power Steering (EPS) that enables active ADAS like Highway Assist (HA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Active Blind Spot Assist (ABSA) and Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR).

In terms of outright performance, the Quattroporte S & S Q4 are further improved, delivering now 424 hp power output and 428 ft-lb of peak torque, respectively 20 hp and 22 ft-lb of peak torque more than in the previous model year. The increased power output grants the Maserati flagship sedan a top speed of 179 mph and even better acceleration. The Quattroporte S accelerates from 0-62 mph in 5.0 seconds, while the Quattroporte S Q4, with the intelligent Q4 All-Wheel Drive system, needs only 4.8 seconds for the same sprint (MY17 respectively in 5.1 and 4.9 seconds).

Iconic GranTurismo and GranTurismo Convertible
The brand-defining GranTurismo and GranTurismo Convertible models have received a substantial refresh for MY18, introducing an elegant and aerodynamically efficient restyling, improved ergonomics and a state-of-the art infotainment system.

The timeless Pininfarina design was treated with the utmost respect by the Maserati Design Centre in the restyling process, benefiting the aerodynamic efficiency of the four-seater coupė and cabriolet. As a result, the aerodynamic drag has been reduced from 0.33 to 0.32 for the GranTurismo and from 0.35 to 0.33 for the GranTurismo Convertible.

The streamlined range of each model comprises two distinct versions, Sport and MC, both equipped with the naturally-aspirated 4.7L V8 engine, producing 454 hp, 384 ft-lb of peak torque and breathtaking Maserati-signature sound.

The interior of the GranTurismo and GranTurismo Convertible, offers unparalleled comfort for four adults thanks to the individual Poltrona Frau® leather seats with integrated headrests. For 2018, the sumptuous interior features a new, high resolution 8.4” capacitive touch screen and refined ergonomics. The state-of-the art infotainment system is combined with standard Harman Kardon Premium Sound system and the interior features a redesigned lower console accommodating a user-friendly double rotary knob.

6 - Maserati Multi70 finishes the Transpac Race in Honolulu in third place. Giovanni Soldini’s crew finished at 11.18 and 55 seconds Italian time on July 11.

Modena. 12 July 2017 - Giovanni Soldini’s Maserati Multi70 crossed the Transpac Race finish line off Honolulu under a full moon at 11.18 and 55 seconds Italian time on July 11 (23.18 and 55 seconds, on July 10 in Hawaii).

Wind conditions during the 2,225-miles long race were in the 13 – 21 knot range – excellent for fast multihull sailing. Soldini’s men made good use of Maserati Multi70’s capability to fly above the water on its hydrofoil dagger boards and on the second day at sea they edged ahead of their main rivals – the non-foiling American trimarans Phaedo3 and Mighty Merloe.

However, the situation changed on Sunday when Maserati Multi70’s starboard rudder assembly was destroyed by a collision in the dark with an unseen solid chunk of ocean debris. The crew stopped the boat and despite strong winds and choppy seas they managed to retrieve the snapped off rudder blade remained attached to the boat by a control line.

We were lucky to be able to save the rudder,” Soldini said. “It took a long time for two of us to pull it in near to the boat. It was jumping around behind us in the waves like a big fish. Eventually, we got it close enough to attach a halliard and wrestle it on board.”

It took a little over an hour before the Italian boat was back in the race and although limited by the missing rudder on port gybe, Maserati Multi70 could sail at full speed on starboard gybe. The sailors pushed the boat to its limits to try to claw back some of the miles lost to their rivals and at one point looked to be gaining ground. Ultimately though, they had to settle for a third-place arrival in Hawaii.

Soldini said the crew was tired but happy to have made it safely to Hawaii, but also disappointed to have lost so much time and distance with their broken rudder.

We are a little sad to have lost out so much because of the rudder,” he said. “I think we had sailed a good race up until then and we were enjoying the battle with the other two. We lost an hour retrieving it – that is 25 miles in these multihull boats”.

Afterwards, we were at least four knots slower without the rudder on that side and when the central rudder loses its grip, the boat spins out and you have to completely ease all the sails to get going again. It takes about 20 minutes to recover and it happened at least 15 times.”

Although they did not get the result they were looking for, the Maserati Multi70 crew sailed a total of 2,636 miles on the four-and-a-half day crossing and were able to gather lots of valuable performance data that will help with their quest to fully master the art of offshore foiling.

It was our first time sailing the boat when we could fly on both sides,” Soldini explained. “We learned a lot of new things about how to sail the boat and now we have a ton of data to analyse on the computer. Our goal is to build an accurate table that will help us better determine when are the best times to fly and when it is better not to.”

We are committed to the concept of an ocean-going flying boat and more than ever convinced that this is where the future of ocean racing lies. We need to put some thought into how we deal with the risk of ocean debris damaging the rudders and we have some innovative ideas to consider.”

The challenge is supported by Maserati which, as main sponsor, gives the boat her name, while UnipolSai Assicurazioni is sponsor.

The official suppliers to the challenge are Ermenegildo Zegna for clothing and Boero Bartolomeo S.p.A. for hull enamels and paints.

7 - MY18 GranTurismo & GranTurismo Convertible star at Goodwood Festival of Speed

World debut for the restyled Maserati GranTurismo Convertible and European premiere for the GranTurismo at Goodwood Festival of Speed, on June 29  – July 2, 2017.

Maserati tells the story of “70 years of GranTurismo” by displaying a collection of iconic GT cars at the Maserati stand.

Modena, Thursday 29 June 2017 – Maserati has chosen the most prestigious car culture event in the world to unveil the MY18 GranTurismo and GranTurismo Convertible. The iconic four-seater coupé makes its European premiere two days after it was revealed at the NYSE (New York Stock Exchange), while the GranTurismo Convertible makes its world debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The Maserati stand at Goodwood makes its mark this year by celebrating 70 years of GranTurismo. Alongside the newly introduced GranTurismo and GranTurismo Convertible, a collection of classic GT Maserati cars will tell the GranTurismo story to the public.

GranTurismo is a genuinely Italian car concept pioneered by Maserati and remains the purest expression of the Modena-based marque. The following legendary Maserati GT models will be on display at Goodwood:

  • A6 1500: the original GranTurismo model was launched at the 1947 Geneva Motor Show featuring a 1.5-liter six-cylinder in-line engine with 65hp under a revolutionary body designed by Pininfarina.
  • 3500 GT: the first “mass-produced” Maserati made its debut in 1957, the year Fangio took the F1 title in his 250F. Its aluminium body was designed by Touring around a 3.5-liter six-cylinder engine with 230hp.
  • Ghibli SS Coupé: named after a Saharan wind, the 1967 Ghibli was designed by Giugiaro and is considered one of the greatest Italian grand tourers. The Ghibli SS was introduced in 1970 with a larger, 4.9-liter V8 engine with 335hp.
  • 3200GT: designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, it returned the GranTurismo concept to its former glory in 1998. The predecessor of the current GranTurismo featured a Twin Turbo 3.2-liter V8 engine with 370hp.

The restyled and further refined GranTurismo and GranTurismo Convertible models will also take on the Goodwood Hillclimb to make their global dynamic debuts in the Supercar Run. The 1.16-mile uphill stage is considered to be the most iconic feature of the Goodwood Festival of Speed and the Maserati runs start today, June 29, and will continue through to Sunday, July 2.

There will be two GranTurismo MC models at the Maserati stand, one in “Rosso Magma” with a black leather/Alcantara interior and one in “Grigio Lava” with “Rosso Corallo” leather upholstery. A GranTurismo Convertible Sport will be on display in “Blu Assoluto” with a “Bianco Pregiato” interior.

On display alongside the new GranTurismo and GranTurismo Convertible, at the Maserati stand will be the flagship Quattroporte Diesel in “Blu Passione”, the Ghibli Diesel executive sports sedan in “Rosso Energia” and the Levante Diesel in “Grigio Maratea”. The Levante S recently announced for right hand markets, will be at the “First Glance” paddock.

Alongside these iconic models, Maserati has collaborated with several renowned partners to craft the perfect GranTurismo experience of style, comfort and performance at Goodwood. As part of its partnership with Maserati, Bulgari has designed the GranTurismo owner’s watch Exclusive Edition and will unveil it at the Maserati lounge at Goodwood. Every Maserati customer who orders an MY18 GranTurismo or GranTurismo Convertible during the Festival of Speed will be presented with one of the exclusive watches.

Maserati will also begin its partnership with Caviar House & Prunier at Goodwood Festival of Speed. To celebrate, the renowned gastronomy brand will offer an exclusive Beluga Caviar tasting experience to Maserati guests throughout the event.

12 - Maserati no. 100,000, a Quattroporte Gransport sedan, presented to Chinese customer at Auto Shanghai 2017

Maserati celebrated the milestone delivery of its 100,000th car at Auto Shanghai 2017, a Quattroporte produced in the Grugliasco plant of Italy.

China’s distinction as the Quattroporte’s largest market as well as its 91% year-on-year sales growth in 2016 underline the Chinese market’s important role in Maserati’s global performance, which set a new record with 42,100 car deliveries worldwide last year.

Maserati has taken centre stage with a historic moment at Auto Shanghai 2017, presenting its 100,000th car, a 2017 Quattroporte GranSport manufactured at the Avv. Giovanni Agnelli Plant in Italy, to the honoured Chinese owner. Featuring a solid-white exterior and an elegant shade of tan inside, this Quattroporte GranSport is fitted with 21" Titano rims and features eye-catching red brake calipers. The colour combination perfectly reflects the brand's legendary heritage of elegance and passion for performance.

Reid Bigland, Head of Maserati, officially unveiled car No. 100,000 at the press conference and announced its honoured owner, a successful and impressive young lady.

"China is Maserati's largest market for Quattroporte in the world," said Mr. Bigland. "Our remarkable performance in China last year was a major contributor to our record-breaking global sales. China's elites are increasingly enamoured by the Italian brand of luxury, exquisite craftsmanship and passion for driving that are poured into every Maserati."

Mirko Bordiga, Managing Director of Maserati China, provided additional context for the brand's recent momentum. "Maserati has been in China for over twelve years," he explained. "Our 2016 sales figures show a significant rise over those of 2015. We attribute this success not only to the fantastic line-up of cars we have launched, but also to Chinese consumers' growing appreciation for Maserati's unique lifestyle proposition."

In 2016, Maserati's sales volume in China broke 12,000, which marks an incredible 120-fold increase over the 100 sales made in 2004, the company's first year operating in China. Today, Maserati has around 30,000 customers in China, 38 percent of whom are women. Maserati's elegant aesthetics, unparalleled craftsmanship, seductive engine sound and thrilling driving experience have truly captured the hearts of China's discerning new generation of business elites.

Over the past 100 years, Maserati has perfected the craftsmanship of super-luxury cars, engineering and producing each car entirely in Italy. Visitors to Auto Shanghai 2017 can take in an impressive line-up, featuring: Quattroporte, Maserati's flagship sedan; Levante, the brand's first-ever SUV; and the always-breath-taking Ghibli sporty sedan.

Quattroporte

The newly-designed 2017 Quattroporte sports a restyled exterior, further refinement on the interior and additional high-tech features such as an Advanced Driver Assistance System. Offering several innovations in exterior and interior design, included in the GranLusso and GranSport versions; new infotainment system with high resolution 8.4” capacitive touch screen embedded in a redesigned central console with rotary knob for better ergonomy and customer usability; improved power and reduced drag resistance; multiple technical and technological new contents related to the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems features; increased level of on-board comfort, also due to the Standard Air Quality Sensor on all versions: the latest Quattroporte perfectly combines luxury and sporty performance, comfort and up-to-date convenience contents.

Car No. 100,000, a white Quattroporte made to the owner's specifications, is powered by a powerful 3.0-litre Twin Turbo V6 engine with 350 HP and torque of 500 Nm between 1,750 and 4,500 rpm. The car accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in only 5.5 seconds and is capable of a 270 km/h top speed. Thanks to this 3.0-litre engine, the Quattroporte delivers the lowest-ever petrol consumption in its 50-year history, with just 9.1 litres/100 km as well as CO2 emissions of 212 grams/km.

The Quattroporte GranLusso offers a distinctive exterior design with a new front lower fascia incorporating an elegant floating bridge element and a delicate spoiler, detailed by the chrome bumper finish and the body colour bumper profiles. Inside the cabin, style-conscious motorists will be delighted by the elegance of the luxurious Ermenegildo Zegna Silk Edition interior, which now comes standard. The Ermenegildo Zegna-designed interior combines fine grain leather with patented 100% natural fibre Zegna Mulberry Silk, creating ultra-luxurious seats, door panels, roof lining, sunshades and the ceiling light fixture for an unmatched user experience. The silk is further embellished by the hand-stitched macro-chevron weave for added comfort and elegance. The central passenger seat features micro-chevron weaved patterns, while Zegna Silk copiously adorn door panels, rood lining and sunshades.

Evoking the best of Maserati's motor racing heritage, the Quattroporte is also available in GranSport trim for a more dynamic exterior that highlights the model's sporty character: redesigned centre and side air intakes deliver enhanced cooling while showcasing the car’s imposing front end; this aggressive stance is further accentuated in the lower fascia by aerodynamic splits in the front grille. Viewed from behind, the centre fuselage and two flanking side pockets draw attention to the exhausts, while an aggressive black piano spoiler completes the rear view. Thanks to the high-gloss Carbon interior trim  dashboard, special sports seats, aluminium gearbox paddles on the steering column and the stainless steel sports pedals, the interior of the GranSport Quattroporte exudes dynamism and energy.

An exclusive meal with Massimo Bottura, the well renowned three-Michelin-starred chef and Maserati brand ambassador, took place at the Maserati stand.
A few select Maserati and Zegna customers enjoyed the spectacle and tasted the culinary delights made by the visionary chef: fast cars and slow food were at the heart of the experience, with a special rice dish inspired by and named after the SUV Levante.

Yesterday evening, Massimo Bottura, the renowned three-Michelin-starred chef and Maserati brand ambassador, joined the first Press Day of the International Motor Show.

During the event, Bottura delighted spectators, sharing his vision, his passion and his journey; as a boy, he grew up with the sound of the engine, as well as with balsamic vinegar and his grandmother’s wisdom in the kitchen.
And it’s thanks to this that today his job is a matter of vision, inspiration, intuition, poetry, executed with passion.

Starting with this philosophical background, he has reimagined the culinary traditions of Italy and Modena, taking an extremely contemporary and sometimes even futuristic approach, coming up with dishes such as the Levante, inspired by the Maserati SUV.

Levante is a wind that blows across Italy from the Adriatic in the east to the Tirreno Sea in the west. It brings with it unexpected aromatic ingredients in the form of citrus infused rice served on top of fresh water fish marinated in fennel and orange.

The chef also prepared other dishes inspired by his origins and his childhood food memories. This is true of “The crunchy part of lasagne”: a taste of the memory of being a child and - like every kid - always trying to pinch the most delicious burnt corner of the lasagna from the roasting dish that his grandmother had lovingly prepared. Today, this edible throwback takes the form of a sheet of crunchy pasta balanced on top of a hand-chopped meat sauce and béchamel so light it is like a bird about to take flight.

Another evocative dish is the “Memory of a mortadella sandwich”: “Can a recipe ever replace a memory?” Massimo Bottura said. “My mother chased me down the street with a mortadella sandwich everyday on my way to school. In honour of her earnest effort to feed me, this memory has been revived with crunchy gnocco and the purest essence of mortadella”.

Reid Bigland, Maserati CEO, also experienced this great moment and commented: “Massimo has shown true genius in expressing a modern or even futuristic vision of this tradition in every flavour, without ever betraying its origins. All this is very close to the Maserati tradition of designing, developing and building cars here in Italy that can excite and delight their drivers all over the world”. Bigland continued: “it’s also a great pleasure to host Maserati and Ermenegildo Zegna customers here in Geneva allowing them to appreciate Massimo’s culinary art”.

Maserati and Bottura have been partners since 2015, and, in November, the Modena-based chef received his new Levante, the first SUV in more than 100 years of the brand’s existence. Bottura is the chef patron of the “Osteria Francescana”, which was awarded the title of the World's best restaurant last year by the respected "The World's 50 Best Restaurants 2016".

17 - Maserati GranTurismo "Special Edition" and Levante Ermenegildo Zegna Show Car debuts at Geneva International Motor Show. Massimo Bottura: Maserati's guest star

Maserati GranTurismo and GranCabrio celebrates the 60th anniversary of the 3500 GT, the very first GT car that segmented the market in 1957, with a Special Edition; the production run will be limited to 400 units.
The SUV Levante Show Car, featuring the new conceptual Ermenegildo Zegna silk fabric, bringing higher levels of luxury to car interiors, will be on show.
Massimo Bottura, three-Michelin-starred chef and Maserati brand ambassador, will appear on the stand as guest star.

After a very successful year of sales, with a record 42,100 cars distributed globally in 2016, Maserati has chosen the 87th Geneva International Motor Show to introduce its GranTurismo and GranCabrio Sport Special Edition versions. A brand new conceptual Ermenegildo Zegna silk interior in beige will also be on show in the SUV Levante.

The first Maserati Grand Touring production car was created in 1957; 60 years ago, the 3500 GT made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show, creating a successful market segment, in addition to the more than 2200 units sold in both coupe and cabrio versions afterwards. The GranTurismo and GranCabrio Special Editions celebrate the 60th anniversary of that important step in Maserati history and commemorate one of Maserati’s iconic vehicles, while embodying the entire legacy of this glorious brand.
The Special Edition is based on GranTurismo and GranCabrio Sport versions and only 400 units will be produced. The main unique features of these new and exclusive versions include the New Rosso Italiano three-layer paint for the exteriors, reinterpreting the red of Fangio’s 250F - F1 champion in 1957 - and emphasizing the link with Maserati’s heritage. Not to mention the wheels: MC-design 20” alloy wheels with a new Glossy Black finish that matches the Special Edition logo wheel centre caps.
The interiors have also been reimagined: the new interior design revolves around Poltrona Frau leather or leather/Alcantara upholstery and new interior stitching available in 4 different combinations. Other distinguishing interior details are the door sills in carbon fibre featuring the Special Edition logo and the dedicated plate on the central tunnel with a carbon fibre holder, commemorating the anniversary and the limited production run of 400 units.

The 2017 Geneva Motor Show will also present the Levante Show Car, featuring the new conceptual Ermenegildo Zegna 100% silk fabric in the cockpit. E. Zegna atelier has developed a new silk fabric specially for Maserati, for a heightened soft touch effect, in a new beige colour. The brand new “Chevron” beige silk fabric is coupled with full premium beige leather on the front and rear seats. The same new beige silk fabric with a “Nattè” pattern, is used to enrich the interior door panels, while a “Jersey” pattern has been chosen for the roof lining and sun visors. A dedicated label featuring the E. Zegna logo highlights the luxuriousness of this interior combination, which is paired with the full premium black leather covering the upper part of the dashboard and the ambient beige cabin.
The new E. Zegna beige interior will further enrich the current line-up of luxury interiors, available in 100% silk in anthracite combined with full premium leather in black, red and tan. The Levante on show is based on the Diesel version, equipped with the 275 hp 3.0-litre V6 Turbo, combined with the “Q4” intelligent all-wheel drive system – which can transfer torque between the axles in just 100 ms and, only when necessary, with 50/50% torque distribution – and an 8-speed automatic gearbox, with integrated Start&Stop System.

In the afternoon, Massimo Bottura, chef and owner of “Osteria Francescana” restaurant, named the World's best restaurant by the respected "The World's 50 Best Restaurants 2016" and Maserati brand ambassador, will appear on the stand for a special cooking experience dedicated to a few select Maserati and Ermenegildo Zegna customers.

The Maserati stand at Geneva will also display the marque's complete range, including the Ghibli and Quattroporte saloons, as well as the best performing car in the SUV family, the Levante S – all in Model Year 2017.

There are two Quattroporte models on show: the GTS GranSport version and the all-wheel drive SQ4 GranLusso version. The GTS GranSport is powered by the immense 530 hp 3.8-litre Ferrari produced V8 Twin-Turbo, capable of a peak torque of 710 Nm and able to propel the car to 310 km/h, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 4.7 seconds; the exteriors and interiors of the GranSport version underscore the sporty character of the Quattroporte, while enhancing the car’s aggressive appearance. Thanks to its new interior and new exterior design cues, Maserati’s legendary racing heritage is fully present.

The distinctive feature of the Quattroporte SQ4 GranLusso is the Maserati intelligent all-wheel drive system (Q4); with the 410 hp 3-litre V6 Twin-Turbo engine delivering sporty performance with a top speed of 286 km/h and just 4.9 seconds from 0-100 km/h. The GranLusso version reinterprets the concept of luxury in a race-bred, engineered luxury saloon by enhancing the exterior finish and improving in-cabin comfort for both driver and passengers. It offers a higher level of luxury thanks to exclusive materials such as the E. Zegna 100% silk and special features following the finest tradition of Italian craftsmanship.

The Ghibli E High-End segment sports saloon on show is the Diesel-version with a 275 hp 3-litre V6 Turbo engine, providing a top-speed of 250 km/h and 0-100 km/h in 6.3 seconds; it includes the Luxury interior package with full premium extended leather.

The Maserati stand will also feature an additional version of the SUV: the Levante S. This model is equipped with the 430 hp 3-litre V6 Twin-Turbo engine, ensuring sporty performance with a top speed of 264 km/h and going from 0-100 km/h in 5.2 seconds. It delivers outstanding performance both on- and off-road thanks to the sophisticated suspension, standard with all versions: double-wishbone on the front axle and multi-link on the rear, combined with electronically controlled damping, 4-corner air-springs providing 5 dynamic ride levels (plus one additional park-position).

Ghibli, Quattroporte and the SUV Levante are equipped with the new infotainment system compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring functions; its standout feature is its 8.4” high resolution screen with multi touch function. Advanced Driver Assistance Systems are optional extras that comprise Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop&Go function, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning with Advanced Brake Assist and Automated Emergency Braking functions.

GranTurismo and GranCabrio Special Editions in detail

In the early 1950s, Maserati enjoyed great success in endurance racing with its legendary barchettas. Based on the mechanic layout of these amazing cars, a new family of special road-use grand touring cars was developed. Thanks to collaborations with famous coachbuilders, who designed iconic bodywork, these cars are now recognized as some of the most characteristic Maseratis of the past (A6 1600, A6 GCS, A6 G/54 etc.). The first Maserati Grand Touring car for series production - the fabulous 3500 GT designed by Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera Milano - emerged from this backdrop in 1957.

The 3500 GT was a ground-breaking vehicle for Maserati. It was the company’s first commercial success with over 2200 units sold in both coupe and cabrio versions. This figure was impressive at the time given the fact that the cars were made completely by hand in the Modena plant. The Special Edition celebrates the 60th anniversary of that important stage in Maserati history and the GranTurismo embodies the entire legacy of this glorious brand.

In 1957, Maserati also reached the pinnacle of its racing history: after a memorable season, Juan Manuel Fangio won the F1 championship in his invincible Maserati 250F, creating truly great memories at the 1957 Nürburgring.
As Maseratis always combine grand touring ambition with racing inspiration, the exclusive Special Edition three-layer exterior colour (Rosso Italiano) reinterprets the red of Fangio’s 250F, emphasizing the link with Maserati’s heritage.

18 - Maserati Multi70 finishes a close second in the ninth edition of the RORC Caribbean 600 Race

Maserati Multi70, the state-of-the-art ocean racing trimaran skippered by Giovanni Soldini, has finished in second place in the RORC Caribbean 600 Race after a race-long high-speed battle with the American trimaran, Phaedo3.

Soldini and his seven-man international crew brought Maserati Multi70 across the finish line off Charlotte Point in Antigua at 21.33.55 local time Tuesday February 21, (02.33.55 on Wednesday 22 February in Italy), 13 minutes behind Phaedo3.

The Italian multihull completed the course in 1 day, 9 hours, 53 minutes and 55 seconds, finishing 13 minutes after phaedo3.

Lighter, less consistent winds than are characteristic of the Caribbean at this time of year meant neither team was able to improve on the race record time of 31 hours, 59 minutes and four seconds, set by Phaedo3 in 2016.

Maserati Multi70 and Phaedo3 were racing in the MOCRA class for multihull boats and finished far ahead of the rest of the record 80 boat fleet of mainly monohull yachts.

The two crews were locked in close combat for virtually the entire race as they matched each other’s every move around the course play for play.

When Maserati Multi70 was slowed by a calm patch on the approach to Guadeloupe, Phaedo3 gained a 13-mile lead – the greatest distance the two boats had been separated by since the start.

The Italian trimaran came storming back immediately and by the next turning point - Iles des Saintes at the southern end of the racecourse - Soldini’s crew were back challenging for the lead.

A freshening breeze for the final 100-miles of the 600-mile racecourse saw Maserati Multi70 speed around the last two legs at over 30 knots as Soldini’s crew tried everything they knew to overtake their rivals before the finish.

But it was not to be. When Phaedo3 was first to make the final turn around the miniscule Redonda Island and point her bows at the finish line, there were no tactical options left for the Maserati Multi70 crew to try to exploit.

After the finish Soldini was quick to congratulate the winning crew on Phaedo3 who he said had made virtually no mistakes during the race. Exhausted but happy, the Italian skipper also paid tribute to his own crew who he said had sailed a great race.

«We are very happy and I think we sailed a good race», Soldini said on the dock in Antigua. «We didn’t have very much time when the conditions suited us. Mostly it was around 10 knots so our foiling gear in the water slowed us down».

Soldini said Maserati Multi70 – which has a standard MOD 70 foil on the right side and a custom L-foil on the left - was only able to fly on two occasions during the race. The most memorable flight, he said, was shortly after the start when they overtook Phaedo3 at speed.

«This has been an important race for us», Soldini said. «Sailing so close to Phaedo3 has allowed us to try things out and I think we have learned a lot about how to get the most out of our boat».

On board Maserati Multi70 with skipper Giovanni Soldini for the RORC Caribbean 600 race were: Guido Broggi, Vittorio Bissaro, François Robert, Oliver Herrera, Carlos Hernandez, Francesco Malingri and Matteo Soldini.

The next outing for Maserati Multi70 will be the Transpacific Race from Los Angeles to Hawaii in July when Soldini hopes to have the boat configured to fly on both sides. Before then the trimaran will make a long passage from the Caribbean to the west coast of the USA via the Panama Canal.

19 - Giovanni Soldini's Maserati Multi70 trimaran starts RORC Caribbean 600 Race in Antigua

The ninth edition of the RORC Caribbean 600 Race set off yesterday from Antigua. The high-tech Italian ocean racing trimaran, Maserati Multi70, skippered by Giovanni Soldini crossed the start line off Fort Charlotte on the south side of the island with a 10-knot westerly breeze at 11.40 local time (15.40 in Europe).

Soldini has seven other crew members on board Maserati Multi70: Guido Broggi, Vittorio Bissaro, François Robert, Oliver Herrera, Carlos Hernandez, Francesco Malingri and Matteo Soldini (a member of the shore team standing in for John Elkann who withdrew after forecast light winds meant the race duration no longer fitted in with his previous work commitments).

Soldini’s team of ocean racing experts are facing much gentler winds than are normal in the Caribbean at this time of year. The unusual weather scenario is the result of a low-pressure storm system to the north that has extinguished the regular trade winds that characterise the classic 600-mile race.

Light breezes do not suit Soldini’s trimaran which is designed to race in much stronger winds when it can fly above the water at high speeds on specially designed hydrofoils.

The RORC Caribbean Race is renowned as one of the most complex and challenging races in ocean racing. This year’s edition has attracted a record fleet of 80-boats including top ocean racing crews from around the world.

Starting and finishing in Antigua, the course weaves its way through the Caribbean taking in no less than 11 island turning points, stretching as far north as Saint Martin and down to the tiny island of Les Saintes off Guadeloupe in the south.

«It will be a tough race», Soldini said before the start. «Accurate navigation is essential and then you have to take into consideration the wind shadows that stretch out from some of the islands that can stop you in your tracks. We will try to sail our boat to the best of our ability».

With average winds for the race expected to be below the level Maserati Multi70 needs to be competitive – it is unlikely that the Italian boat or its main rival, the USA-flagged trimaran, Phaedo3, will challenge for the race record time of 31 hours, 59 minutes and four seconds, set last year by the American boat.

After having crossed the starting line, Maserati Multi70 passed York Island on the east coast of Antigua heading north towards a turning mark in the southwest of the island of Barbuda; Maserati Multi70 is currently at close range and catching up to its rival Phaedo3, near to the western side of the island of Guadeloupe.

21 - Maserati: car number 100,000 leaves the Avv. Giovanni Agnelli plant at Grugliasco

The plant's 100,000th car is a white Quattroporte GranSport MY17 destined for China, the Maserati's limousine's biggest market.
Alfredo Altavilla, FCA Chief Operating Officer for the EMEA Region, thanked all the men and women at the Avv. Giovanni Agnelli Plant who made the achievement of this major milestone possible.

This morning, at the Avv. Giovanni Agnelli Plant (AGAP) where the Ghibli sports sedan and the Quattroporte limousine are built, celebrations were held to mark the production of the 100,000th car. It was a white Quattroporte Model Year 2017, equipped with the 350 horsepower 3.0 litre V6 Twin-Turbo engine built by Ferrari.
This special Quattroporte is destined for China, a strategic market for Maserati and of primary importance for the Brand's limousine

Alfredo Altavilla, FCA Chief Operating Officer for the EMEA Region, thanked everyone working at AGAP, whose dedication has made this plant a centre of excellence not only within the Maserati production organisation but for the entire FCA group.

“The Maserati brand's impressive growth during the last few years has been one of the major developments at the Premium end of the market; the sixth generation of the Maserati limousine, developed here at Grugliasco, is the best-selling Quattroporte of all time and almost 70,000 units of the Ghibli, built here, have now left the production line, meaning that in little more than three years it has become the most successful Maserati of all time," Alfredo Altavilla commented. "With the Levante the Brand has now moved into the SUV segment and the "Maserati spirit" has also reached the Mirafiori plant, where the Levante is produced. The men and women who work here at the Avv. Giovanni Agnelli Plant at Grugliasco are already well aware of this," Mr Altavilla added, "because many of them mentored their Mirafiori colleagues during the production launch and build-up phases for the new Levante SUV, acting as ambassadors for the Brand's craftsmanlike care and attention to detail.”

As well as the AGAP, Grugliasco and Mirafiori, Turin plants, Maserati has a third production location at its historic headquarters on Viale Ciro Menotti in Modena, where the GranTurismo and GranCabrio sports cars are built.

Today, Maserati is a genuine Italian icon: a symbol of creativity, passion, innovation and style, values all reflected in the range. Thanks to a unique blend of craftsmanship, technology and obsessive attention to details, it produces cars that never fail to thrill and inspire.

With the range-completing Levante SUV, alongside the new Quattroporte, the Ghibli, the GranTurismo and the GranCabrio, Maserati now covers every sector of the global luxury car market.

23 - Maserati Multi70 ready to fly in the trade winds

The Italian trimaran, participating in the 2016 RORC Transatlatnic Race, continues to head for the North Atlantic to catch steadier winds

Storms, unstable winds and peak speeds of 38 knots. That was the situation Maserati Multi70 left in her wake as she emerged from the second night of the RORC Transatlantic Race. Now at the same longitude as Cape Verde, she is continuing her race north to catch the Trade Winds this evening as they finally come into their own.

Aboard there is great satisfaction with how Maserati Multi70 is performing on the ocean in flying trim as Giovanni Soldini confirmed this morning by sat phone (at 09.00 GMT): “The boat is doing really well: last night, we foiled for a couple of hours in complete darkness. Flying between the Atlantic waves at 33/36 knots with not even a sliver of moon was quite stressful  but we’re happy with how the foils are coping with the long ocean waves”.

The current weather situation in the North Atlantic (12.00 GMT) sees Maserati Multi70 still grappling with a weak N/NE airflow that doesn’t get above 15 knots. The coming hours will be pivotal for the Italian multihull which is now 170 nautical miles from the American trimaran, Phaedo3, which took the southerly route and is sailing in a 15-knot E/SE wind.

Soldini explained: “We are trying to pass a bubble with very little wind to position ourselves even further north where the Trade Winds will come in good and strong tonight. They will then stay with us for the next 500 miles as we sail west. Unfortunately, we are slower than anticipated and Phaedo3 has more wind than we thought she’d get. But now she’ll have to go north to avoid the dead calm ahead of her. Our paths will cross in a couple of days at around 30°N and 36°W”.
Maserati Multi70 is currently 2,837 nautical miles from the finish-line at Grenada (at 8.00 GMT).

The RORC Transatlantic Race, now on its third outing, is competed over a 2,865-nautical mile route from Lanzarote (Canary Islands) to Grenada (the Caribbean).

A total of 14 boats are competing in three classes: IRC, Class 40 and MOCRA Multihull. The current multihull record was set by the trimaran Phaedo3 last year in a time of 5 days, 22 hours, 46 minutes and 3 seconds.

24 - Maserati Multi70: the first ocean race for the flying trimaran and its crew has begun

The third edition of the RORC Transatlantic Race starts amid light south-westerly winds. The 2865 mile long ocean regatta crosses the Atlantic Ocean from Lanzarote (Canary Islands) to Grenada (Caribbean Sea).
The race record to beat for a multihull was set by Phaedo3 just last year in a time of 5 days, 22 hours, 46 minutes and 3 seconds.

The RORC Transatlantic Race started at 13.00 Italian time (12.00 local time in Lanzarote, Canary Islands). A fleet of 14 craft lined out, including Maserati Multi70 manned by skipper Giovanni Soldini and his team who were extremely eager to embark on this first ocean challenge.

As yet there is no definite picture of weather situation, however, partly because the American and European prediction models are at odds and evolving rapidly.

«The transatlantic crossing we’re facing into is strange: we came here to compete in a Caribbean race – and that means high pressure areas, Trade Winds, steady winds. But the actual weather situation is completely different to that», commented Giovanni Soldini as he sailed out of Marina Lanzarote. «There are various tropical depressions with fronts very far south».

Maserati Multi70, her closest rival Phaedo3 and the rest of the fleet started the RORC Transatlantic Race in an 8-knot SW crosswind. Once they have made their way down the channel to the south of Lanzarote, however, they’ll be sailing upwind and the wind is expected to freshen towards evening.

«We can’t wait to fly on the ocean», concluded Giovanni Soldini. «We are delighted to be in this race because it’s a big step for us: after three months of research and development, it is the first time we’ll be getting to sail on the ocean in our flying trim – on one side at least. We’re hoping that pitting ourselves against this ocean will teach us a lot and help us make progress».

25 - Maserati to present New Quattroporte Grandsport at Los Angeles Auto Show

Maserati’s Sporting Take On Flagship Quattroporte To Make U.S. Debut

Information and specs in the following Press Release refer to the US market only

Southern California audiences will be able to celebrate their love of luxury vehicles with even greater enthusiasm at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show, thanks to Italian automaker Maserati and the company’s upcoming U.S. debut of the new Quattroporte GranSport, along with the display of the entire Maserati product lineup.

Following the success of the new Quattroporte’s global reveal in Paris in September, the new Maserati flagship sedan features additional high-tech content in the area of on-board comfort and driver assistance, as well as exterior restyling and a new dedicated range strategy, introduced with the GranLusso and GranSport trims.

Additionally, the MY17 Ghibli sports sedan remains faithful to Maserati’s heritage while offering unmistakable class, top-quality performance and a thrilling yet comfortable driving experience, which means a more desirable premium sedan than ever before.

The scene is also dominated by the Levante SUV set to challenge the premium sport utility segment with its unparalleled luxury pedigree and rugged off-road capabilities. The all-new Levante SUV, which helped propel Maserati North America to record sales during that past two consecutive months, will also highlight the Los Angeles program.

The house of the Trident’s range wouldn’t be complete without the sporty GranTurismo model, which will also be on display at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

“Southern California is a very important market for Maserati’s U.S. sales, so the L.A. Auto Show is the perfect forum to share our entire product line,” said Tom Shanley, Head of Maserati North America. “Maserati’s eye toward the future, coupled with the strength of our dealer network in California, has had a positive impact on the brand and has helped increase our market share throughout North America. Whether you’re looking to drive up PCH in a GranTurismo Convertible, cruise down Rodeo Drive in a Quattroporte or Ghibli, or even venture up to the mountains in a Levante, Maserati now has a lineup of vehicles to meet your needs.”

Quattroporte Model Year 2017

After three and a half years of unprecedented success in the international markets, the Quattroporte has undergone a substantial restyling that accentuates its elegance without altering its signature Maserati personality.

The restyled Quattroporte, now available, represents the quintessence of Italian sport sedans and is destined to continue a success story that started in 2013.

The exterior of the restyled Quattroporte is recognizable with a new bumper design with matte black profile at the front and the matte black extractor at the rear. The front grille is more pointed and imposing, and it introduces new vertical chrome elements that contrast with the deepness of the shark nose effect. Other distinguishing details of the new Quattroporte are the matte black side skirts and the exterior mirrors, which have been slightly restyled to incorporate new technical elements.

An electrically adjustable Air Shutter has been fitted in the front grille between the air vents and the engine’s radiator. The Air Shutter provides optimal control of the engine’s fluid temperature and, together with the optimization of the new front and rear bumpers, air conveyor and flat bottom, improves the aerodynamic drag of the car by 10%.

The improvements to the interior were introduced to enhance the purity of the model by underlining only the functional parts. This takes place through the clean integration of the new interface elements with the infotainment area and tunnel console.

Specifically, the redesigned central dashboard now accommodates a capacitive high-resolution 8.4” screen with multi touch function.

The new infotainment system is compatible with both the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring functions.

A new package of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems is available as an option in the new Quattroporte. It includes Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop&Go, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning with Advanced Brake Assist and Automated Emergency Braking. An additional new Surround View Camera is available as an option in combination with the Driver Assistance package.

All Quattroporte cars are now equipped with an Air Quality Sensor, a feature that substantially improves comfort levels for the occupants on-board. This system combines an intelligent sensor and a signal analysis system that calculates the external pollution levels and prevents polluted air and toxic gases from entering the cabin.

GranLusso and GranSport, Two Distinct New Worlds

Since its beginnings Maserati has represented the perfect blend of luxury and sportiness thanks to its race-bred engineering.

With the restyling of the flagship Quattroporte, Maserati launches a new range strategy to offer its highly demanding clientele the additional choice of two unique trim options that emphasize the two key pillars of the brand’s DNA: GranLusso and GranSport.

Each trim level was conceived to meet the needs of customers that seek a distinctive and unique product in the executive saloon segment.

GranLusso and GranSport are immediately recognizable thanks to their distinct exterior design and unique interiors.

GranSport Trim

The GranSport trim underscores the sporty character of the Quattroporte while enhancing the aggressive appearance of the car. Thanks to new exterior design cues and interior content that reflect the legendary racing heritage of the Maserati brand.

On the front of the Quattroporte GranSport, the dedicated restyling for the center and side air intakes improves the cooling function while showcasing an aggressive front area. The lower fascia is linked to the grille with aerodynamic inspired splits. The back is characterized by an evident composition between a center fuselage and two side pockets that focus the attention on the exhausts. An aggressive black piano spoiler completes the rear view. The Quattroporte GranSport is fitted as standard with 20” Urano rims and features a glossy black finish on the bumpers, red brake calipers and blue inserts in the front Trident and side Saetta badge as well as blue Tridents on the wheel centers. As an option, the front grille of the GranSport can be ordered in a glossy black finish.

The interior of the Quattroporte GranSport includes all-new front and rear sport seats, with their sculptured profiles, to improve sporty driving performances while a new sport steering wheel, in carbon fiber or full leather, creates a strong identity.

Thanks to the standard high gloss Piano Black wood trim on the dashboard, the brand new sport seats, the sport steering wheel fitted with aluminum gearbox paddles and the stainless steel sport pedals, the interior of the Quattroporte GranSport guarantees a truly sporty experience.

A further opportunity for customization is available in the form of the optional Exterior Carbon Pack for the GranSport trim, to further enhance the sporty exterior. This pack features external mirrors, door handles and b-pillar cover plus the profile of the front bumper in carbon fiber.

Engine-wise, the Quattroporte remains faithful to its traditions with a very wide range of engines and transmissions starting with the Quattroporte GTS, powered by the immense 523 hp 3.8 liter Ferrari-produced V8 Twin-Turbo with rear wheel drive, capable of a peak torque output of 524 ft-lb and able to propel the car to 193 mph, accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 4.6 seconds.

The Quattroporte is also available with the 404 hp 3.0 liter Ferrari-produced V6 Twin-Turbo, with rear wheel drive (Quattroporte S) or with Q4, the intelligent all-wheel-drive system available for the Quattroporte S Q4. At the top of the class for both versions are the 406 ft-lb of torque and a 177 mph top speed for the Quattroporte S and 176 mph top speed for the Quattroporte S Q4, with the S Q4 variant accelerating from 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds and the rear-wheel drive Quattroporte S version in 5.0 seconds.

All versions of the Quattroporte are fitted with state-of-the-art ZF eight-speed automatic transmission and electronically-controlled Skyhook shock absorbers; with an ideal 50:50 weight distribution and an extensive use of aluminum in the chassis, body and suspension, performance and comfort are again unparalleled.

GranLusso Trim

The GranLusso trim reinterprets the concept of luxury in a race-bred engineered luxury saloon by enhancing the exterior finish and improving in-cabin comfort for driver and passengers. It offers a higher level of luxury using exclusive materials and special features in the finest tradition of Italian craftsmanship.

GranLusso is distinctive for a new front lower fascia design with an elegant floating bridge element and a delicate spoiler, detailed by the chrome bumper finish and the body color bumper profiles. The profile incorporates side skirts, while on the rear the look is even cleaner, characterized by a sculptured retroreflector and a body-colored spoiler; the exterior look is completed by 20” Mercurio rims and black painted brake calipers.

In the cabin, the soul of the GranLusso is epitomized by the Ermenegildo Zegna Edition interior
that features a patented silk fabric, unique in the industry, on the seats, doors, headliner and sun visors; the seat tailoring details and the label behind the sun visors make this version unique and exclusive.

The cabin ambience is further refined thanks to the exclusive open pore Radica wood on the dashboard and the leather steering wheel with wooden inserts. The trim not only integrates comfort-oriented equipment like the power foot pedals and the electric rear sunblind, but also the Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop&Go, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning with Advanced Brake Assist and Automated Emergency Braking features.

The interior of each Levante has been created with the finest materials, exquisite to the touch, from optional premium leather to Ermenegildo Zegna silk, made in Trivero by the Zegna wool mill with a patented process.

The spaciousness of the interior, enhanced by the panoramic electric sunroof (standard on Levante S), is combined with coupé-sleek external lines and the best aerodynamic efficiency in its category with a Cx coefficient of just 0.31.

The technology applied to every Levante is designed to offer outstanding performance both on- and off-road. Furthermore, with the lowest center of gravity in its class, perfectly balanced weight distribution (50-50) between front and rear, high levels of dynamic torsional and flexional stiffness, and a mechanical self-locking rear differential as standard, when driven on-road, the Levante delivers all the performance and emotion typical of every Maserati.

The height-adjustment of the body position is particularly useful in off-road driving, guaranteeing ride comfort at the top of the category; when set to the minimum ground clearance, it enables the car to perform at its sporty best.

Engine-wise, the Levante is equipped with the latest evolution of the Maserati 3.0-liter V6 engine. The two versions of the twin-turbo engine are acclaimed for their unique Maserati signature sound and for their exceptional performance.

The Maserati V6 engine with latest GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) and twin turbochargers is available in two versions with different horsepower: the top of the range, Levante S, delivers 424 hp and the exciting Levante delivers 345 hp. The packages are designed to appeal to customers with differing tastes.

"Maserati is a well-known symbol of Italian excellence all around the world, and this fills us with pride" - said Jacob Nyborg. "Therefore, we believe it is both an honour and a moral obligation to use the best of our capability and wide outreach to give voice to the stories of sacrifice of unknown people, whose contribution has made this world a better place. A place, where equality and solidarity are tangible values. We truly welcome the opportunity to sponsor this event, to give our contribution to the implementation of the RFKennedy Human Rights Foundation projects ".

RFKennedy Human Rights Italia President Maria Lina Marcucci, sets out to raise public awareness of the stories and activities of the defenders of human rights: ordinary people who, in the face of injustices, violations and abuses, have chosen to dedicate their lives to others.

27 - Massimo Bottura renews his Maserati ambassadorship

Modena's star Chef and Maserati: the perfect partnership between slow food and fast cars

Maserati and Chef Massimo Bottura have renewed the working relationship which began last year. The association will continue to combine the Brand's automotive excellence with the outstanding gastronomic values of the Modena-based Chef and his “Osteria Francescana” restaurant, recently named as The World's Best Restaurant by the respected "The World's Best Restaurants 2016" rankings.

After driving his Ghibli SQ4 for more than a year, today Massimo Bottura visited the Maserati headquarters to take delivery of his new Levante, the first SUV in the Brand's more than 100 years history.

The Levante was handed over by Maserati CEO Reid Bigland, who insisted on personally delivering the keys to the famous Chef.

"The Italian culinary tradition is unique," Reid Bigland declared, "and I consider that Massimo has shown true genius in expressing a modern or even futuristic vision of this tradition in every flavour, without ever betraying its origins; all this is very close to the Maserati tradition of designing, developing and building cars here in Italy that can excite and delight their drivers all over the world and, in the case of the new Levante SUV, on all road surfaces, too."

“I fell in love with the Levante at first glance," Chef Massimo Bottura stated, "and I was inspired to express the thrill it gave me by creating a dish that's now on the menu at “Osteria Francescana”. The idea that from today I'll finally be able to drive a Levante on a daily basis is very, very exciting."

Maserati and Massimo Bottura, as Brand Ambassador, will continue to collaborate on various joint projects, both locally and internationally.

29 - Victory and multihull record for Maserati Multi70 in the 37th Rolex Middle Sea Race

Giovanni Soldini and the Maserati Multi70 team were first across the finish-line in the 37th Rolex Middle Sea Race at 14 00’ 01” yesterday, Monday 24th October, taking the line honours in a time of 2 d, 1 h, 25' and 01" in the 608 nm long regatta.

Apart from this major victory – the first for Maserati Multi70 and its crew – the trimaran also set the new multihull record for the legendary Maltese race, slashing just over 10 hours off the previous one set in 2015 by American Lloyd Thornburg’s Phaedo³ (2 d, 11 h, 29' and 41").

"It was a fantastic race. We learned a lot, including the fact the wing on the centreboard works against us in very light air”, explained Giovanni Soldini just after he’d stepped ashore at Malta. “In a strong wind with a flying foil – which was changed after we lost the rudder during the passage to Malta – we would have bridged the gap. We were here to test that very solution but unfortunately we didn’t get the chance”.

The weather conditions that prevailed throughout the 37th edition of the Rolex Middle Sea Race set the pace for the fleet leaders.

"We hadn’t much wind to get us to Sicily, very little at all in the Strait and even less until we’d passed Stromboli,” Giovanni Soldini continued. “Phaedo³ took a good strong lead in those conditions but after the western tip of Sicily we managed to catch up most of the way, cutting the distance to them to a dozen miles. North of Sicily, we made the tactical decision to stay offshore, towards Ustica, and that paid off”.

Then this morning, Phaedo³ made a technical error by heading for Linosa rather than Lampedusa, and the roles reversed.

The Maserati Multi70 crew threw themselves whole-heartedly into the race and launched a suitably determined attack.
"Phaedo³ had a brilliant race with very few errors and then made an enormous one at the end: we grabbed the opportunity and ran with it”, concluded Giovanni Soldini.

Maserati Multi70’s race spanned a whole slew of memorable moments, most notably her passage off Palermo, making landfall at Sicily after the start from Malta where Phaedo³ also put on a very good performance.

30 - Maserati Multi70 wins the Rolex Middle Sea Race 2016 and sets a new record in the multihull category

At exactly 14 00’ 01” today, Maserati Multi70 sailed across the finish-line of the 37th Rolex Middle Sea Race after a 608-nautical mile gallop, stopping the clock in the multihull category of the Royal Malta Yacht Club - organised event at 2 days, 1 hour, 25 minutes and 01 seconds.

Aside from her victory, Maserati Multi70 has also set a new multihull record for the legendary Maltese race, slashing just over 10 hours off the previous one set by Phaedo³ in 2015 (2 days, 11 hour, 29 minutes and 41 seconds).

31 - Maserati Multi70 catches up with Phaedo3 as they sail neck-and-neck towards the finish of the Rolex Middle Sea Race

Having now covered over half of the 608 miles of the Rolex Middle Sea Race route, including a spectacular passage past the Stromboli volcano at first light and with the Aeolian Islands now in her wake, Maserati Multi70 has just caught up with Phaedo³, which had been leading the fleet since the start, and the duo are locked in a heated battle for first position. The Italian trimaran made up the ground thanks to a tactical decision by Giovanni Soldini to stay offshore as they neared Ustica to look for wind and then sail down towards San Vito Lo Capo without being slowed by the very light air along the coast which hampered the progress of Phaedo³.

The ESE breezes encountered so far haven’t gone above 10 knot but very soon, once San Vito Lo Capo is behind them, the trimarans will run into the Sirocco (SE) which will fresh to a maximum of 25 knots.

Maserati Multi70 and Phaedo³ will have to beat all the way to the finish-line at Malta, which is now under 300 miles away. They are separated by a tiny distance of between 2 and 5 miles (depending on the angles) and are making similar speeds of between 12 and 16 knots. The two trimarans should cross the finish-line off Malta’s Grand Harbour in the late morning or early afternoon of tomorrow.

"Racing within sight of Phaedo³ has kept us on high alert,” commented Giovanni Soldini via satellite. “There was a gap of about 20 miles between us but we completely made that up by looking for wind offshore. We’re now leading and trying to defend that position by beating from San Vito Lo Capo to Malta. But all is good aboard. Morale is high – despite the fact that we were more affected by the lack of wind than Phaedo³, the boat is responding perfectly. We made a tactical choice that is now paying off and we’re really giving it our all”.

32 - The 37th edition of the Rolex Middle Sea Race has started. Weak winds, plenty of adrenaline and steely determination from the Maserati Multi70 team

A volley of cannon fire from the fortress overlooking Malta’s Grand Harbour marked the commencement this morning at 11.00 of the staggered start of the 37th edition of the Rolex Middle Sea Race which saw 107 out of the 117 entries in the Royal Malta Yacht Club event, line out. The 608-nautical mile route gets underway from and finishes at Malta, taking the fleet on an anticlockwise circumnavigation of Sicily, with the Aeolian Islands, Egadi Islands, Pantelleria and Lampedusa to port.

The Rolex Middle Sea race fleet sailed out of the Grand Harbour in 10-knot NW. In the multihull category, the two MOD70s, Maserati Multi70 and Phaedo³, started at 12.40 with the English boat skippered by Brian Thompson first across the line tailed closely by her Italian rival.

The clash between the two MOD70s in the multihull grouping (Mocra) looks set to be very much a clash of equals thanks to Maserati Multi70’s new configuration featuring a Mod rudder and C-foil on her starboard side.
Weather forecasts confirm the fleet will initially be racing in weak NW winds, so both MOD70s in the competition will be beating to windward. However, winds will freshen for the second half of the route from Stromboli on.

Just before he cast off from the spectator-thronged quays at Malta, Giovanni Soldini had this to say about the start of the race: “There’s not much air at the start. We’re expecting very little in the way of wind until the Strait of Messina. But it should kick in from Stromboli onwards”.

Maserati Multi70’s pre-race shakedown confirmed that all aboard is working to perfection. “Yesterday’s test run went brilliantly. We put the boat through her paces - the rudders are rotating and everything is fine. We’ll be giving it our all!

Over the course of their collaboration, the companies developed a limited edition collection of 100 flagship Maserati Quattroporte in 2013 made with an exclusive interior fabric from Lanificio Zegna, followed by the creation of a special edition trim package for Maserati Ghibli in 2015, which now is also available on the Quattroporte and the new Levante SUV.

35 - Maserati at the Paris Motor Show: debuts for the New Quattroporte and Ghibli Model Year 2017

Maserati’s saloons, the Ghibli and the restyled New Quattroporte, feature additional high-tech content in the area of on-board comfort and driver assistance while offering an even higher degree of customization thanks to the new Luxury and Sport packages.

Maserati is taking its entire range to the Paris Motor Show 2016 with some important updates. The MY17 saloons remain faithful to their heritage while offering unmistakable class, top-quality performance and a thrilling yet comfortable driving experience which means a more desirable premium saloon than ever before.
Starting with their interiors, Maserati’s 2017 Model Year saloons benefit from substantial upgrades as well as new technical content. The new central dashboard has been redesigned to accommodate a high-resolution 8.4” screen with multi touch technology. The new infotainment system is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring functions. The new design also features a rotary knob to control the main functions.
To further increase the customization potential for Maserati’s models, specific luxury and sports options are available for the Ghibli and Quattroporte.
From a technological standpoint, a new package of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) is available and includes Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Blind Spot Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning with Advanced Brake Assist, and Automated Emergency Braking. An additional Surround View Camera is available in combination with the ADAS package.
All the saloons have been upgraded in terms of aero-acoustic comfort, and are once again class leading; due to the adoption of new technologies, significant improvements in noise insulation and reduced cabin noise have been achieved. To further improve passenger comfort, an Air Quality Sensor is now standard equipment.
Specifically, for the Maserati flagship, the New Quattroporte is being launched with an exterior restyling and a new dedicated range strategy, introduced with the GranLusso and GranSport trims.
New apparel and accessories ranges also feature: the Contemporary collection with new items of clothing for women and an original blazer for men; the all-new Urban line from Maserati Corse; the centuries-old tradition inspiring the colours and motifs of the Maserati Classics collection; and finally the Officine Alfieri Maserati clothing range, strongly oriented towards the future.
What’s more, a new maseratistore.com, the unmistakable online point of reference for Maserati Collection lovers, is now live.

New Quattroporte
After three and a half years of unprecedented international success, the Quattroporte has undergone a substantial restyling that accentuates its elegance without altering its signature Maserati personality.
The restyled Quattroporte, available since June 2016, represents the quintessence of Italian sport saloons and is destined to continue a success story that started in 2013.
The exterior of the restyled Quattroporte is recognizable with a new bumper design with matte black profile at the front and the matte black extractor at the rear. The front grille is sharper and more imposing, and it introduces new vertical chrome elements which contrast with the depth of the shark-nose effect. Other distinguishing details of the new Quattroporte are the matte black side skirts and the wing mirrors, which have been slightly restyled to incorporate new technology.
An electrically adjustable Air Shutter has been fitted in the front grille between the air vents and the engine’s radiator. The Air Shutter provides optimal control of the engine’s coolant temperature and, together with the optimization of the new front and rear bumpers, air conveyor and flat bottom, reduces drag by 10%.
Improvements to the interior have been introduced to create a cleaner look by highlighting only the functional parts. This takes place through the clean integration of the new interface elements with the infotainment area and central console.
Specifically, the redesigned central dashboard now accommodates a high-resolution 8.4” capacitive touchscreen with multi touch technology.
This area is now characterized by a continuous technical element which incorporates the screen, new climate control system, and new compartment in a single seamless design, emphasizing the pure, elegant layout typical of the Quattroporte.
The lower part of the central console has also been redesigned and now features a rotary knob for volume and function control, a new lid and phone storage compartment. The stylistic approach to these functional elements permits a minimalist design approach for the centre of the dashboard.
The new infotainment system is compatible with both the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring functions.
A new package of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems is available as an option in the new Quattroporte. It includes Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop&Go, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning with Advanced Brake Assist, and Automated Emergency Braking. An additional new Surround View Camera is available as an option in combination with the Driver Assistance package.
All Quattroporte cars are now equipped with an Air Quality Sensor, a feature that substantially improves passenger comfort levels. This system combines an intelligent sensor and a signal analysis system which measures external pollution levels and prevents polluted air and toxic gases from entering the passenger compartment.

GranLusso and GranSport, two distinct new worlds.
From the beginning Maserati has represented the perfect blend of luxury and sportiness thanks to its race-bred engineering.
With the restyling of its flagship Quattroporte, Maserati is launching a new range strategy to offer its demanding clientele the additional choice of two unique trim options which emphasize the two key pillars of the brand’s DNA: GranLusso and GranSport.
These two highly distinctive trims are available as an upgrade for all Quattroporte V6 versions (Quattroporte Diesel, Quattroporte, Quattroporte S, Quattroporte S Q4). Both trims will be priced at the same level across the range.
The top-of-the-range version, the Quattroporte GTS, which features the twin-turbo V8, will be available exclusively with either the GranLusso or GranSport trims as standard.
Each trim level has been designed to meet the needs of customers seeking a distinctive and unique product in the executive saloon segment.
GranLusso and GranSport are immediately recognizable thanks to their distinct exterior lines and unique interiors.

GranLusso trim
The GranLusso trim reinterprets the concept of luxury in a race-bred luxury saloon by enhancing the exterior finish and improving in-cabin comfort for driver and passengers. It offers a higher level of luxury using exclusive materials and special features in the finest tradition of Italian craftsmanship.
GranLusso stands out with its new front lower fascia design with an elegant floating bridge element and a delicate spoiler, trimmed with chrome bumper finish and body colour bumper profiles. The profile incorporates side skirts, while on the rear the look is even cleaner, featuring a sculpted retroreflector and a body coloured spoiler; the exterior look is capped off with 20” Mercurio rims and black brake calipers.
Inside, the soul of the GranLusso is epitomized by the Ermenegildo Zegna Edition interior that features a patented silk fabric, an industry first, on the seats, doors, headliner and sun visors; the seat upholstery details and the label behind the sun visors make this version unique and exclusive.
The interior ambience is further refined thanks to the luxurious Radica wood dashboard and the leather steering wheel with wooden inserts. The trim incorporates comfort-oriented equipment like power foot pedals, electric rear sunblind, four-zone air conditioning, heated rear seats and extended keyless entry.

GranSport trim
The GranSport trim underscores the sporty character of the Quattroporte by enhancing the aggressive appearance of the car, with new exterior design cues and interior content which reflect the legendary racing heritage of the Maserati brand.
On the front of the Quattroporte GranSport, the dedicated restyling for the centre and side air intakes improves cooling while showcasing an aggressive front end. The lower fascia is linked to the grille with aerodynamic inspired splits. The back features a composition between the centre fuselage and two side pockets which really stands out and draws attention to the exhausts. An aggressive Black Piano spoiler completes the rear view.
The Quattroporte GranSport is fitted with 21” Titano rims and features a glossy black finish on the bumpers, red brake calipers and blue inserts in the front Trident and side Saetta badge, as well as blue Tridents at the centre of the wheels. As an option, the front grille of the GranSport can be ordered in a gloss black finish.
The interior of the Quattroporte GranSport includes redesigned front and rear seats, with sculptured profiles, to improve sports driving performance, while a new sports steering wheel, in carbon fibre or full leather, creates a strong identity.
Thanks to the high-gloss Black Piano wood trim on the dashboard, the brand new sport seats, the sport steering wheel with aluminium shift paddles, and the stainless steel sport pedals, the interior of the Quattroporte GranSport ensures a truly sporty experience.
A further opportunity for customization is available in the form of the optional Exterior Carbon Pack for the GranSport trim, to further enhance the sporty exterior. This pack features wing mirrors, door handles and B-pillar cover, plus the profile of the front bumper, in carbon fibre.
Engine-wise, the Quattroporte remains faithful to its traditions with a very wide range of powertrain options, starting with the Quattroporte GTS, powered by the immense 530 hp 3.8 litre Ferrari-produced V8 Twin-Turbo with rear wheel drive, capable of a peak torque of 710 Nm with a top speed of310 km/h, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds.
The Quattroporte is also available with the 410 hp 3.0 litre Ferrari-produced V6 Twin-Turbo, with rear wheel drive (Quattroporte S) or with Q4, the intelligent all-wheel-drive system available with the Quattroporte S Q4. Both versions offer 550 Nm of torque and a 286 km/h top speed, with the S Q4 variant accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and the rear-wheel drive Quattroporte S version in 5.1 seconds.
Based on the same V6 architecture, the Quattroporte is also available in certain markets with 350 hp, 20 hp more than in the previous version, capable of delivering a powerful drive with torque of 500 Nm, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds and a faster top speed of 270 km/h.
The range is completed by the Quattroporte Diesel; featuring a 3.0-litre V6 Turbo, it delivers 600 Nm of torque with 275 hp, retaining a top speed of 252 km/h and an impressive 0-100 km/h time of just 6.4 seconds.
All versions of the Quattroporte are fitted with state-of-the-art ZF eight-speed automatic transmission and electronically-controlled Skyhook shock absorbers; with an ideal 50:50 weight distribution and extensive use of aluminium in the chassis, body and suspension, performance and comfort are again unparalleled.

Other Maserati models at the Paris Motor Show
Levante, Maserati's first SUV, with its distinctively Italian style and breathtaking iconic Maserati design features, continues to generate acclaim. Design, exclusivity and performance are the key characteristics for describing this new Maserati.
On the stand a Levante S and a Levante Diesel steal the show.
The interior of each Levante has been created with the finest materials, from optional premium leather to Ermenegildo Zegna silk, made with a patented process by the Zegna woolen mill in Trivero.
The spaciousness of the interior, enhanced by the panoramic electric sunroof, is combined with coupé-sleek exterior lines and the best aerodynamic efficiency in its category, with a drag coefficient of just 0.31.
The technology incorporated in every Levante is designed to offer outstanding performance both on- and off-road. Sophisticated suspension – double-wishbone on the front axle and multi-link on the rear – combined with electronically controlled damping, four corner air-springs providing five dynamic ride levels (plus one additional park-position), all play an essential role in the car's handling.
Furthermore, with the lowest centre of gravity in its class, perfectly balanced weight distribution (50-50) between front and rear, high levels of dynamic torsional and flexural rigidity, and a mechanical self-locking rear differential as standard, when driven on-road the Levante delivers all the performance and excitement typical of any Maserati.
The body height adjustment is particularly useful for off-road driving, guaranteeing ride comfort at the top of the category; when set to the minimum ground clearance, it enables the car to perform at its sporty best.
The Levante is powered by a 3.0 litre V6 Twin-Turbo petrol engine generating 350 hp or 430 hp, or a 275 hp 3.0 litre V6 Turbo Diesel. All engines are combined with the “Q4” intelligent all-wheel drive system – which can transfer torque between the axles instantaneously when required – and an 8-speed automatic gearbox, with integrated Start&Stop System.
In terms of performance, the Levante S (430hp) covers 0-100 km/h in 5.2 seconds, has a top speed of 264 km/h, and provides combined NEDC-cycle fuel consumption and emissions figures of 10.9 l/100 km and 253g CO2/km respectively. The Levante (350 hp) accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.0 seconds and achieves a top speed of 251 km/h, with combined cycle fuel consumption and emissions figures of 10.7 l/100 km and 249g CO2/km respectively. The Diesel-powered Levante (275hp) covers 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds, and has a top speed of 230 km/h, while its combined cycle consumption and emission figures are 7.2 l/100 km and 189 g CO2/km respectively.
The human-machine interface on board is based on an evolution of the Maserati Touch Control system, completely updated to offer even more functionality and convenience: the 8.4” high-resolution screen is capacitive, and can – in addition to the touch system – be operated using the new rotary control on the central console.

A wide range of sophisticated advanced driver assistance systems is available, including Adaptive Cruise Control with Automatic Start&Stop function, Forward Collision Warning, Advanced Brake Assist and Lane Departure Warning. Further options include Blind Spot Alert, Surround View Camera with front and rear dynamic lines, and a powerlift tailgate.
The sports car range is represented on the stand by the GranTurismo MC Stradale. The engine in the GranTurismo MC Stradale is the Euro 6-compliant 4.7 litre 460 horsepower naturally aspirated petrol 90° V8, featuring a rear-wheel drive system with the gearbox coupled to the rear differential, enabling the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds; the top speed is 303 km/h and the car has Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes.
Apart from the MC Stradale on display, the sports car range includes the GranTurismo, with a 4.2 litre, 405 horsepower naturally aspirated V8 petrol engine and 6-speed automatic transmission, and the GranTurismo Sport, powered by the same 4.7 litre 460 horsepower naturally aspirated V8 petrol unit as the MC Stradale, available with MC Auto-Shift automatic transmission or MC Shift robotic gearbox, all with rear-wheel drive.
The Maserati GranTurismo combines exceptional performance with pure Italian design by Pininfarina; created as the ultimate in the GT sector, it features sleek, attractive lines and a style which harks back to the elegant 1947 Maserati A6 1500GT, the car that spawned the GT segment. Its long front, muscular rear and defined lines suggest forceful forward motion – even at a standstill. Particular attention has been paid to precise adjustment of its lines to perfect the aerodynamics. With a very roomy interior designed to provide spacious accommodation for up to four adults, it offers unrivalled comfort for daily trips and long journeys alike, and also requires remarkably little effort from the driver even as performance is pushed to its impressive limits. The elegant and sumptuous hand-crafted interior blends luxury and space with performance in perfect harmony, highlighting the GranTurismo’s sporting character without sacrificing usability. Maserati also offers an unrivalled customization programme, enabling every customer to “create” their own GranTurismo.
The Maserati sports-car family also includes the GranCabrio, with its powerful 4.7 litre Euro 6 naturally aspirated 90° V8 petrol engine with automatic 6-speed gearbox and rear-wheel drive; its 460 horsepower output provides exhilarating performance, powering from 0-100 km/h in 5 seconds and reaching a top speed of 285 km/h.
The Maserati convertible range is completed by the 450 horsepower GranCabrio and the 460 horsepower GranCabrio MC, both with a 4.7 litre naturally aspirated 90° V8 Euro 6 petrol engine, rear-wheel drive and 6-speed automatic transmission.
The Maserati GranCabrio is a sporty convertible designed for GT use, accommodating four adults in comfort and with a distinctive style and strong personality. The unmistakable lines designed by Pininfarina, which has imbued generations of Maseratis with unmatched beauty, are reflected in the timeless tradition of the GranCabrio, designed to prioritise unbeatable comfort even on long journeys, driving pleasure, and elegance.
Its streamlined shape, combined with impeccable aerodynamics, are the result of painstaking attention to the smallest detail, while the memorable lines pay homage to the glory of the brand’s one hundred years of history, the quintessential expression of Maserati’s heritage.
The soft-top of the GranCabrio range, available in eight different colours, consists of three layers of coated canvas on a steel and aluminium frame, guaranteeing quiet, draught-free driving.
The GranCabrio range offers on-road luxury with its spacious interior featuring four comfortable individual seats in leather – Poltrona Frau Leather or drilled Alcantara depending on the variant – perfect ergonomics, and easy-to-use interfaces.

36 - Another month of successful sales for Maserati, with excellent results in Italy and Europe

Maserati returns excellent sales results for the month of August on all the main European markets.

Italy is once again the company's biggest European market, with 97 new registrations last month, representing a 273% increase compared to August 2015. This brings the total of Maserati vehicles registered in the first eight months of the current year to an impressive 1,050, meaning +9% compared to the same period of 2015.

The Brand enjoyed continuous growth on all the main European markets: the United Kingdom, Germany, Benelux, France, Switzerland and Spain all made major contributions to this very strong performance. 4,180 cars have been registered since the start of 2016, with an average rise of 6% compared to the first eight months of 2015.

This clearly reflects the success of the Levante, the first Maserati SUV, which has already gone on sale on a large number of European markets. The performance of the Maserati saloons - Quattroporte and Ghibli - was particularly striking in the United Kingdom, with a 52% increase in sales compared to the same month of 2015; sales of the Maserati SUV are scheduled to start on this market in the last quarter.

38 - Maserati makes its debut as Official Car and title sponsor of the Bronze Cup at the 45th International Tournament Santa Maria Polo Club in Sotogrande

The iconic Spanish tournament is the fifth round of the Maserati Polo Tour 2016 - The first Maserati Store in Spain is now officially open

The 45th International Tournament at the Santa Maria Polo Club in Sotogrande has officially started and Maserati took centre stage as it made its debut as the Official Car of the Tournament as well as the title sponsor of the Bronze Cup. The Maserati Bronze Cup Final will take place at the Santa Maria Polo Club in Sotogrande on August the 11th, 2016.

The opening match saw Dubai Polo Team beat Brunei by 16 to 12. Emir Rashid Albwardy’s team, led by Adolfo Cambiaso, the best polo player in the world, had a really good start defending their title at the Santa María Polo Club.

The International Polo Tournament in Sotogrande is the third event of the Grand Slam circuit, and its highly competitive nature attracts the best players and teams in the world. Last year over 88,000 visitors attended the event, which is regarded both nationally and internationally as one of the largest of its kind, as well as a firm social fixture in the Spanish Summer calendar.

Although this is the first polo tournament sponsored by Maserati in Spain, 2016 is the third year of the Maserati Polo Tour in collaboration with La Martina: Sotogrande represents the fifth stage of the six planned for this year. The Maserati Polo Tour will end in September in Beijing with the China Open Polo. The Maserati 2016 polo season lasts for nine months, covering three continents and six different time zones.

In Sotogrande Maserati has a strong presence within the different facilities of the Santa Maria Polo Club, with a lounge, two VIP boxes and a Maserati Store. Visitors of the Santa Maria Polo Club can also book a test drive: from the Ghibli executive saloon, to the Quattroporte flagship, as well as the first Maserati SUV, the all new Levante are all available to be test driven with Maserati’s team of professional drivers.

Maserati has unveiled exclusively at the Santa Maria Polo Club in Sotogrande the first Maserati Store in Spain: located in the main pavilion and open daily from 17: 00h to 22: 00h until August 28, the Maserati Store in Sotogrande offers a selection of accessories, clothes and memorabilia of the historic Italian car manufacturer.

Giulio Pastore, General Manager Maserati Europe, commented: "In the sport of Polo we find elements that we consider of great relevance, since they are a strong part of Maserati’s DNA: Polo means passion, performance, action and pursuit of perfection. Furthermore, this particular Tournament is a high octane event that combines sport and fashion in an environment of great elegance, where the attending public shows great affinity with our brand. This is Maserati’s third year in this wonderful sport and Maserati could not miss the opportunity to be a fundamental part of one of the most prestigious events of the Grand Slam circuit ".

39 - Maserati Polo Tour and La Martina partner for prestigious USPA Maserati Silver Cup in Santa Barbara

Sole United States Tour stop celebrates Italian style with luxury automobiles and limited-edition fashions

The Maserati Polo Tour had its fourth stop as part of the United States Polo Association (USPA) Silver Cup at the prestigious Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club from July 15 to July 24 in Santa Barbara, California. This year’s Silver Cup featured the world’s finest polo players, luxury Italian automobiles and a limited-edition apparel collection by leading sports and leisure brand, La Martina. A title sponsor for the second consecutive year, Maserati has embraced polo as a perfect compliment to the brand, and its iconic trident logo was prominently visible on the playing field throughout the tournament.

Adrian Simonetti, CEO of La Martina America said: “It is an honour for La Martina to be present at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club. Since its birth, this Club has played an important role in supporting the culture and values of the sport of polo: integrity, fair play and passion, the same values that La Martina and Maserati share with this special project”.

Reinforcing their presence in the polo world, Maserati and La Martina teamed up to launch the first-ever co-branded store that made its debut at the Santa Barbara tournament. In addition, La Martina created a limited-edition polo shirt – the “Maserati Silver Cup” polo shirt – dedicated to this tour stop, which was showcased at the store.

Maserati exhibited several 2016 vehicle models at the competition, including the Ghibli, flagship Quattroporte model and Maserati’s newest vehicle and first SUV, the recently launched Levante.

The highly anticipated Silver Cup tournament attracted over 1,500 attendees. The match took place at the historic Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club located along the stunning California coastline. Dan Walker and the Farmers & Merchants Bank Team led from the start of the match and took home the well-deserved victory after outscoring Lucchese 10-6.

Maserati, in partnership with La Martina, the official supplier of the Maserati Polo Team, kicked off the renowned 2016 Maserati Polo Tour in January at the Snow Polo World Cup in St. Moritz, Switzerland.

The two brands also share an innovative digital project developed beside the Tour: #PoloStories. In the four episodes, four Polo Ambassadors talk about themselves and their relationship with the Sport of Kings starting from a different Keyword for every leg of the Tour.

Jesse Bray, the protagonist of the 3° episode of #PoloStories, shot in Santa Barbara, will talk about how it feels to be part of the exclusive world of polo. Being a true polo player doesn't quite mean belonging to a restricted group of lucky people, but it is the result of a tough daily process built on passion, dedication, sacrifice and resolution. Becoming an active part of Polo history and exclusivity is an honour indeed, but it is a privilege you have to work hard for. It is not for everyone, and it can only be achieved with a strong will and the consistent desire to excel in everything you do in your life, both on and off the polo field.

Following the Silver Cup tournament, the Maserati Polo Tour continues to the 45°Torneo Internacional de Polo in Sotogrande, Spain, from July 27 to August 11. The final stop will be in Beijing, China, this September.

To keep up to date with all of the thrilling action from the global events, the 2016 tour can be followed on www.maseratipolo.com, where there will be access to photos, extra content and updates from each leg of the Maserati Polo Tour.

40 - Maserati: luxury, sport and style at the Hôtel de Paris

From 1st July to 30th September, Hôtel de Paris in Monaco launches a partnership with Maserati. During the renovations of Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo, the hotel has invited the most prestigious designers to take up Suite 321-322, to create a space where two synonymous brands collaborate to reach new heights.

The synergy between the two brands started on 19th May 1957. After an epic race, Juan Manuel Fangio masterfully won the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix with the 250F and his victory marked a significant moment in time for Maserati on the Monaco circuit.

After almost sixty years, both brands have decided to celebrate their connection and heritage with the Maserati Pop-Up Suite at Hôtel de Paris.

Maserati – with its Trident logo – has forged its success in excellence. They have built their international reputation on their distinctive, highly creative style, and this is seen in the design of the Pop-Up Suite. Created by L + R Palomba (Ludovica and Roberto Palomba), rising stars in the world of Italian interior design, the suite transcends style with pure, elegant grey tones and precious materials; it is obvious no expense or effort has been spared in creating this dream décor.

Located on the third floor of the prestigious, luxury hotel in Monaco, the Maserati Pop-Up Suite offers an exceptional view of the sea and of the iconic Casino de Monte-Carlo. In decorating such an idyllic location, the young designers' immense talent and imagination had no limits. In the understated yet elegant living room, the designers created a central pillar – from which the surrounding spaces branch out – highlighting a resolutely modern lifestyle. “Absolute minimalism” is the keyword here, where exquisite lines, Maserati’s timeless elegance, and the Hôtel de Paris's excellent services converge.

The bedroom reflects the style of Modena’s automotive brand. An impressive refined fabric headboard by Ermenegildo Zegna embellishes the wall, while the grain leather armchairs resemble the interior of Maserati’s sumptuous saloons.

This package includes:

  • Maserati transfers to/from Nice airport
  • A Maserati GranCabrio, the Trident Marque’s four-seater convertible, at the guests’ disposal to drive during their entire stay* (*50km around Monte-Carlo)
  • Breakfast
  • A cocktail buffet of Modena-style dishes with Laurent Perrier Cuvée Rosé champagne
  • Guests staying for three nights or more can enjoy a free cryotherapy session at the Thermes Marins Monte-Carlo

41 - Maserati and Giovanni Soldini: a massive technological challenge

The 2016 season is getting underway on something of a high note for Giovanni Soldini and his partners with the move from their previous monohull to the new Maserati Multi70 trimaran. This faster, more modern craft will allow Soldini and his crew to tackle new records and compete in prestige competitions of the likes of the Rolex Middle Sea Race in October and the RORC Transatlantic Race in November.

Flanking Giovanni Soldini this new season are Maserati, returning as main sponsor for the fifth consecutive year, and UnipolSai Assicurazioni which will be playing a more prominent sponsorship role in the project than last season.  Also renewing their support as official challenge suppliers are:  Ermenegildo Zegna for clothing and Boero Bartolomeo S.p.A. which supplies hull paint and enamels.

After an extremely busy and satisfying three years that saw them clock up an impressive number of nautical miles with the monohull Maserati VOR70, Soldini and his team will henceforth be sailing aboard Maserati Multi70, a cutting-edge, very high performance trimaran capable of making extremely fast speeds. Stretching 21.2 metres in length and 16.8 in the beam with a 29-metre mast, Maserati Multi70 can rise up off the water on her rudders and foils, significantly reducing her wetted surface area to the benefit of performance. The trimaran was originally penned by the VPLP (Van Peteghem Lauriot-Prévost) studio and optimised by Team Gitana in collaboration with Guillaume Verdier.

“We are just starting to discover Maserati Multi70’s potential. The passage from Lorient gave us our first taste: it was a positive and very enlightening experience,” commented Giovanni Soldini.

“This craft’s innovative character is all down to her appendages. Team Gitana transformed the starboard side with an L-foil and got her flying but always in sheltered waters.

We are now trying to find out if and how it is possible to do the same in a moderate swell. Clearly that will involve a lot of research and development work that we’ve only just begun but what we’ve seen so far is really enthusing us already”.

Three challenges are scheduled for this season: a Monaco-Porto Cervo record attempt, the Rolex Middle Sea Race and RORC Transatlantic Race.

In September, Maserati Multi70 will be on stand-by in Monte Carlo for the perfect weather window for an attempt to set a new multi reference time between Monaco and Porto Cervo, a 195-nautical mile route. The current record is held by the monohull Esimit Europa 2 which covered the distance in 10 hours, 13 minutes and 42 seconds in 2012, making an average speed of 19 knots.

The second challenge of the season is also the most important as the Rolex Middle Sea Race is one of the great classic offshore races. Launched in 1968 and now on its 37th outing, it has attracted some of the leading names in international sailing over the years. The 608-nautical mile route starts and finishes from Malta and involves an anticlockwise circumnavigation of Sicily with the Aeolian Islands, the Egadi Islands, Pantelleria and Lampedusa to port of the fleet. The current race record was set byRambler (USA) in 2007: she covered the 608 nautical miles in 47 hours, 55 minutes and 3 seconds.

Maserati Multi70’s third and final challenge of the year is the RORC Transatlantic Race, which starts from Lanzarote in the Canaries on November 26 and also marks her ocean debut. The fleet will cross the finish-line at Grenada in the Caribbean after around 3,000 nautical miles of sailing.

42 - Levante, the Maserati of SUVs, makes its official UK dynamic debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed

Levante, the Maserati of SUVs, makes its official UK dynamic debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed

Over the weekend, Maserati unleashed its first ever SUV, the Levante, on Goodwood’s famous hillclimb in the ‘First Glance’ Class.

This was the first time the British public got to witness the Levante driving in the UK, making for one of the most eagerly anticipated debuts at the Festival of Speed.

As well as making its UK dynamic debut, visitors to Thursday’s Moving Motor Show were also able to get up close and explore the Levante, which was on show in the pavilion, alongside the flagship luxurious Quattroporte and the executive Ghibli saloon.

Goodwood’s Moving Motor Show offered the unique opportunity to ride in the Italian marque’s Ghibli, with over 90 Maserati enthusiasts taking up the chance to have an exclusive passenger ride.

The automotive spectacle attracted over 200,000 visitors over the weekend and the Levante’s run up the 1.16mile hillclimb created one of the most exciting dynamic debuts of the Festival.

43 - Beaufort Polo Club plays host to Maserati Royal Charity Polo Trophy as part of the Maserati Polo Tour in collaboration with La Martina

Today, the UK leg of Maserati’s International Polo Tour saw a thrilling match at the Gloucestershire-based Beaufort Polo Club.

Playing in the UK match at the iconic ground was a very special guest; HRH The Duke of Cambridge who played on the Maserati team.

His Royal Highness took part in the game in aid of the Princes’ chosen charities England and Wales Mountain Rescue, Household Cavalry Foundation and Welsh Rugby Charitable Trust. Since 2007 the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry have been playing polo in support of their charities. This summer’s matches will see the total they have raised pass the £10 million mark.

Joining the Princes in the action were England Internationals and La Martina ambassadors, Malcolm Borwick, and George Meyrick.

2016 is the third year Maserati and its historic partner La Martina have hosted a world polo tour, with the UK match being the third of six matches on the calendar.  The 2016 season spans nine months, covering three continents and six time zones.

La Martina, the prestigious supplier of technical polo equipment and luxury lifestyle clothing and official supplier of the Maserati Team, has partnered with the luxury car manufacturer to further strengthen the relationship of the two brands. To mark this leg of the tour, La Martina released a limited edition polo shirt – the Anatomic Sport, of which only 300 will be available.

Enrico Roselli, La Martina CEO, said: “It is a fantastic opportunity to host a third prestigious world polo tour match in the UK alongside Maserati, and at the same time continue to further grow our relationship with another like-minded brand that also contains such magnificent heritage.”

Today’s victory was secured by Maserati, whose excellent performance saw a final score of 9 – 5 ½. After an impressive showing, the Maserati Most Valuable Player prize was presented to polo player, Charley Law.

Peter Denton, Region Manager Maserati North Europe, commented: “Today’s match at Beaufort Polo Club highlighted exactly why we look forward to our annual International Polo Tour. The thrill of the match and the power and agility of the ponies is everything we try to encapsulate in our products.”

“It’s always a great atmosphere and we wish The Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry every success in achieving their target of raising £10,000,000 for their charities.”

Enrico Roselli added: “To celebrate being able to host the UK leg of the polo world tour, La Martina is proud to release a limited edition polo top. This new exclusive shirt – the Anatomic Sport – features a Union Jack second button, alongside seamless anatomical decoration on front and back, as well as the historic La Martina and Maserati logos.”

Showcased alongside the star-studded line-up of polo players were Maserati models including Maserati’s luxury flagship saloon car, the Quattroporte. And adding to the event’s horse power was Maserati’s first SUV, the Levante, which was recently unveiled to the UK media and selected guests at The Royal Horticultural Halls in London.

The Maserati Polo Tour continues on 15-24 July with the “USPA Maserati Silver Cup” at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club, California, USA. Maserati will then fly to Sotogrande, Spain, for the “45° Torneo Internacional de Polo” that will be held from 27 July to 11 August at the Santa Maria Polo Club.

44 - Massimo Bottura's Osteria Francescana, the world's best restaurant

At the annual world fine dining event “The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2016”, held yesterday at the Cipriani Wall Street restaurant in New York, Osteria Francescana, Modena, was named the world's best restaurant. The award was presented to Michelin-starred Chef and restaurant patron Massimo Bottura, Maserati Brand Ambassador, and his wife Lara Gilmore.

It was a very proud moment for Bottura; after being named Europe's top chef in January, he now further confirms his status as one of the best chefs in the world, and is also the first Italian to receive this award. Osteria Francescana is famous worldwide for its genius in finding masterly, fresh combinations for the ingredients of Italy's traditional cuisine.

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants award celebrates fine dining the world over by bringing together an amazing pool of culinary talents and restaurants from 23 countries across the globe.

Maserati's association with Massimo Bottura, which began in May 2015, combines the Brand's automotive excellence with the outstanding gastronomic values of the Modena-based Chef and his “Osteria Francescana”, with its 3 Michelin stars.

45 - The new Quattroporte: restyling and range strategy for a new product experience

After three and a half years of unprecedented success in the international markets, the Quattroporte has undergone a substantial restyling that accentuates its elegance without altering its signature Maserati personality.

The restyled Quattroporte, representing the quintessence of Italian sport saloons, will be available from June 2016 and is destined to continue a success story that started in 2013. Since its initial launch, the iconic Maserati flagship model has been delivered to over 24,000 customers in 72 countries.

The exterior of the restyled Quattroporte is recognisable with a  new bumper design with matte black profile at the front and the matte black extractor at the rear.

Specifically, the redesigned central dashboard now accommodates a capacitive high resolution 8.4” screen with multi touch function.

This area is now characterized by a continuous technical element that integrates the screen, new climate control and new drawer in a single seamless design, emphasizing the pure volume composition typical of the Quattroporte.

The central, lower console has also been redesigned and now features a rotary knob for volume and function control, a new lid and phone storage compartment.

GranLusso and GranSport, two distinct new worlds.

The two highly distinctive trims are available as an upgrade for all Quattroporte V6 powertrain versions (Quattroporte Diesel, Quattroporte, Quattroporte S, Quattroporte S Q4). Both trims will be priced at the same level across the range.

The top of the range version, the Quattroporte GTS, which features the twin-turbo V8, will be available exclusively with either the GranLusso or GranSport trims as part of the standard equipment.

Each trim level was conceived to meet the needs of customers that seek a distinctive and unique product in the executive saloon segment.

GranLusso and GranSport are immediately recognisable thanks to their distinct exterior design and unique interiors.

GranLusso is distinctive for a new front lower fascia design with an elegant floating bridge element and a delicate spoiler, detailed by the chrome bumper finish and the body colour bumper profiles. The profile incorporates side skirts, while on the rear the look is even cleaner, characterized by a sculptured retroreflector and a body coloured spoiler; the exterior look is completed by 20” Mercurio rims and black painted brake calipers.

In the cabin, the soul of the GranLusso is epitomised by the Ermenegildo Zegna Edition interior that features a patented silk fabric, unique in the industry, on the seats, doors, headliner and sun visors; the seat tailoring details and the label behind the sun visors make this version unique and exclusive.

The cabin ambience is further refined thanks to the exclusive open pore Radica wood on the dashboard and the leather steering wheel with wooden inserts. The trim integrates comfort-oriented equipment like the power foot pedals, the electric rear sunblind, the four-zone air conditioning, the heated rear seat and the extended keyless entry.

GranSport trim

The GranSport trim underscores the sporty character of the Quattroporte while enhancing the aggressive appearance of the car. Thanks to new exterior design cues and interior content that reflect the legendary racing heritage of the Maserati brand.

On the front of the Quattroporte GranSport, the dedicated restyling for the centre and side air intakes improves the cooling function while showcasing an aggressive front area. The lower fascia is linked to the grille with aerodynamic inspired splits. The back is characterized by an evident composition between a centre fuselage and two side pockets that focus the attention on the exhausts. An aggressive black piano spoiler completes the rear view.

The Quattroporte GranSport is fitted with 21” Titano rims and features a glossy black finish on the bumpers, red brake calipers and blue inserts in the front Trident and side Saetta badge as well as blue Tridents on the wheel centres. As an option, the front grille of the GranSport can be ordered in a glossy black finish.

The interior of the Quattroporte GranSport includes redesigned front and rear seats, with their sculptured profiles, to improve sporty driving performances while a new sport steering wheel, in carbon fibre or full leather, creates a strong identity.

Thanks to the high gloss Piano Black wood trim on the dashboard, the brand new sport seats, the sport steering wheel fitted with aluminium gearbox paddles and the stainless steel sport pedals, the interior of the Quattroporte GranSport guarantees a truly sporty experience.

A further opportunity for customization is available in the form of the optional Exterior Carbon Pack for the GranSport trim, to further enhance the sporty exterior. This pack features external mirrors, door handles and b-pillar cover plus the profile of the front bumper in carbon fibre.

Engine-wise, the Quattroporte remains faithful to its traditions with a very wide range of engines and transmissions starting with the Quattroporte GTS, powered by the immense 530 hp 3.8 litre Ferrari-produced V8 Twin-Turbo with rear wheel drive, capable of a peak torque of 710 Nm and able to propel the car to 310 km/h, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 4.7 seconds.

The Quattroporte is also available with the 410 hp 3.0 litre Ferrari-produced V6 Twin-Turbo, with rear wheel drive (Quattroporte S) or with Q4, the intelligent all-wheel-drive system available for the Quattroporte S Q4. At the top of the class for both versions are the 550 Nm of torque and the 286 km/h top speed, with the S Q4 variant accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and the rear-wheel drive Quattroporte S version in 5.1 seconds.

Based on the same V6 architecture, the Quattroporte is also available in specific markets with 350 hp, 20 hp more than in the previous version, capable of delivering a powerful drive with a torque of 500 Nm, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds and a faster top speed of 270 km/h.

The range is completed by the Quattroporte Diesel; equipped with a 3.0-litre V6 Turbo, it delivers 600 Nm of torque with 275 hp, retaining a top speed of 252 km/h and a quick 0-100 km/h figure of just 6.4 seconds.

All versions of the Quattroporte are fitted with state-of-the-art ZF eight-speed automatic transmission and electronically-controlled Skyhook shock absorbers; with an ideal 50:50 weight distribution and an extensive use of aluminium in the chassis, body and suspension, performance and comfort are again unparalleled.

46 - Maserati: final stage of the Paris-Modena 2016 fundraising Tour

The Paris-Modena fundraising Tour organised by Maserati's French subsidiary and supervised by Guido Giovannelli, Regional Manager Maserati West Europe, ended yesterday at the Maserati headquarters on viale Ciro Menotti.

The third edition of the Paris-Modena Tour, which started from the Italian Embassy in Paris on 4 June, attracted a field of 35 cyclists, including several VIPs, such as former F1 driver and event spokesman Paul Belmondo, Italian national cycling team coach Davide Cassani, skier Manfred Moelgg, former Spanish national basketball captain José Miguel Antúnez, Rafael de Medina Abascal, Duke of Feria and famous Spanish entrepreneur, Matteo Panini, owner of the Panini Museum, which houses one of the world's most important collections of historic Maserati cars, not to mention Guido Giovannelli himself. This year's Paris-Modena Tour was also the first to involve female participants, thanks to skier Manuela Moelgg, Italian Antonella Monti and Canadian Maryann Huckvale.

In 5 stages which alternated sections covered on their bikes and by car, the group crossed France and Italy by way of Orleans and then the Le Castellet circuit, Saint Tropez, the Principality of Monaco and Sestri Levante, with a finish at the famous Carrara marble quarries.

The night after the fourth stage was spent at Bolgheri in Tuscany. The next morning, after crossing Florence and visiting the Mugello circuit, the Tour arrived in Modena for lunch at Azienda Hombre.

The cyclists completed their challenge in the afternoon of 8 June, finishing at the historic Maserati headquarters, where they were welcomed by Christian Gobber, Maserati Sales Manager, and Giulio Pastore, General Manager Maserati Europe.

Thanks to the ever-increasing number of participants, this year the event, created to support the Rêves charitable association (www.reves.fr) raised an impressive 16,000 Euro.

The donation will be used to make the dreams of seriously ill children come true and improve their quality of life.
